  3. Hey folk, Since it's a nice day, and I've almost finished my new bedroom (and cut the grass), I thought I'd stick up a limited 7 day download for my sought after K.o.L rework! The track has been supported Tiesto, Mike Koglin, Andy Moor, Mark Sherry & Jules himself on his Radio 1 show. Something nice for the summer. This won't see the light of day unfortunately so here it is for the kind folk who have been asking about it! Enjoy! Clicky wick

  9. a good friend of discogs after 21 years rote this to me Then I can resolve one of your ID tracks for you. Judge Jules, lUSh 2000. This is an unreleased track by Julian Napolitano under his A.M.P. alias that only Judge Jules got to test. Unfortunately it was never published. Had written with Julian Napolitano a few times. By the way, there is a new remake of it, see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzDwNwUzTsU&t=1s. Sounds pretty good too. Thank you for your time and best regards and this Talked to him on Facebook on Messenger. Another member of the ID track group had already written briefly with him and asked. Then he had confirmed that the track was from him, but nothing further. I then wrote to him again because I had already written with him about another track many years ago. At the beginning he confirmed to me that the track was from him, but he can't remember which alias. After various "re-drilling", he decided that there would be a track under his A.M.P. alias be. He can't remember how the track was sent to Jules, but he suspects it was about John Barlow (“At the time we were managed by John Barlow from 3 beat so he might of sent it to Jules or a promo cd company). That was his answer. Unfortunately, in the last few weeks I haven't had time to research any further and ask about John Barlow. But it could be the key. That is everything I know.

  17. Haven't been on here for ages or done any JJ Retro mixes … threw this together at the wkd. Lots of Jules Trance era stuff up on here, this stuff covers my period of clubbing in London and listening to Jules flagship Kiss Fm Fri – Sat slots from 91 – 97. If your looking Trance only then forget it. If you like "Pumping" music then check it out. These were the big tunes of the day in Jules' box and on his Kiss FM playlist … shame there are literally zero shows around from those days, as it was still very much pre-digital. I had dozens of tapes with his shows and others but they got thrown away by mistake during a move a few years back. I enjoyed tracking down these tunes as many never made it to the CD mixes that were around back then. Jules was on rotation for all the regular club nights and specials all the time. Peach @ Camden w Graham Gold, Frisky @ Ministry (he would do 3 hour sets in the box) Gallery @ Turnmills, Serious @ The Cross, Divine @ Bagleys and Lloyd Studios. Kiss did some good allnighters @ Shepard Bush Empire as well. All the other big names were always around, Fontaine, Tall Paul, John Kelly, Tony De Vit, El Tongo, Blocko and Alex P, Healy, and the rest. Its odd to look at London clubbing now with the 90s era as an afterthought, it was a seriously hedonistic time and there was so many nook and cranny places to hang out in all day after clubbing. Or just roll up to most pubs with decks and spin your own tunes. Pre-surveillance world … you can't take a shit now without it being analysed by some suits in a Batcave in the next room … glad I got my rocks off in that earache lol that was 21 years ago (WTF ...) I enjoy early Trance stuff but have always been more into a spread of styles, which Jules was more about in earlier times. Anything from Funky – Tribal – breakbeats - uplifting and the downright nutbag tunes he seemed to have an ear for. Its basically just “Pumping” … More on the way now I got the bug again lol ... enjoy.

  18. sorry for the delay in replying .. it was defiantely described by the Judge as a ' white label' ... & no, it was definately not Tiesto's In search of sunrise ' .. although this is a amazingly good track (!) & it did not have a vocal and it was not dark .. quite the opposite in fact !! it was a melodic uplifting insrtumental trancer .. ) .... it sounded very much like a Darren Tate track .. I would not be surprised if it was him .. but there is no record of him doing a track called 'Sunrise' .. I am intrigued by what you said about 3 fingers .. do you have a copy of this ?? I would love to hear it again .. and yes, it was definately played by the Judge after the 3 fingers mix of BT;s Flaming June .. circa 2000/1 + also, thanks for your help .. !! totally awesome .. ))) System F - Solstice - 3 Fingers -

  19. Jules's style has progressively got slower, cheesier and less focused towards Trance over the last decade - to the point where the bulk of his sets became "EDM" shite and commercial rubbish. He's been irrelevant to the Trance scene for years now unfortunately. His sound is more suited to the "three shots for a fiver" music-for-the-masses commercial / chain-owned clubs these days where 18-25 year olds are happy to hear commercial music with "Somebody screeeeeeeam" jingles slapped over the top. Gone are the days of Jules smashing out a bit of decent, pacey, "niche" tunes like Dark Monks - Insane, BK - Revolution and Mauro Picotto - Baguette at 143bpm in a main room or festival. A 133bpm Swedish House Mafia vs Bananarama vs Will.I.Am vs John McEnroe (Six Sambucas & A Strongbow "You Cannot Be Serious" Vocal Bootleg) mash-up is more apt these days*. *That bootleg may or may not be fictional before anyone tries looking for it*

I think you're getting very confused about things and getting wound up over nothing. As someone else said, if you're not happy about something, contact the admins or p.m. No need for all the threads. Please realise that there is no agenda, and we're all very happy with the way this site is run. Hopefully you'll enjoy the site as much as the rest of us then.

  37. I suspect that Jules knows, and has accepted, that he's no longer looked upon as a credible Trance music DJ. I suspect that he's also quite content playing the kind of music and the more mainstream clubs these days because it's enabled him to prolong his career alongside a day job. The UK Trance scene is on its arse now - so gigs in this country have really dried up - and all of the big British DJs are now having to play abroad a lot lot more - to the point where I see the likes of Halliwell, Emery, Above & Beyond, etc on more European, Australian and South American line-ups than UK line-ups now. Jules was at his peak in the mid 90's to late 90's through to around 2004/2005. After that, rather than having the "niche" sound he'd always had (Pacey, Harder-edged Tech-Trance, Trance with funky basslines and House with a Euro bounce to it - plus the occasional outrageous quirky tune that couldn't be categorised into any style or genre - but when you walked into a club, you could just tell it was a "Jules Tune"), he started "following trends" - playing anything that was popular at the time. In recent years, Jules has gone from Trance, through to Tech-Trance, through to House, through to "Trouse" through to EDM and commercial nonsense. He always mixed genres to some extent - but Jules always had his own unique sound that could be easily identified - whereas in the end, he was playing whatever sound was popular. Add into that the sloppy beatmatching, clashing tune selection, god awful bootlegs, OTT unnecessary looping and dragging out of breakdowns, "Somebody screaammmmmmm" voiceovers and attempts at scratching that should only be attempted at home when practicing new tricks, its sad just how quickly Jules went down hill. Even just ten years ago, Jules was my favourite DJ. Even now I get out old Jules sets to listen to - and loved them more than any other DJ's sets I listen to because when Jules was at his best, he really was superb. Every time I went out clubbing, Jules made the night. In just a short space of time, that rapidly changed - to the point where whenever I went out, I never knew which Jules I'd get because he became so inconsistent. I remember seeing him one week in London - and he played one of the best sets I'd ever heard - one week later, he played one of the worst I'd ever heard. It was like hearing two completely different DJs because the difference was so vast between the two sets. Then when those "Somebody screammmmmmm" jingles and god awful bootlegs with RNB or pop vocals, poorly mashed-up into a poor tune, I'd just given up completely - and stopped going to see Jules completely. I don't know whether Jules had just lost interest, become out of touch with the Trance scene, became complacent thinking "I've made it" and "I can do as I like - and people will still see me", whether mainstream music that paid better money became more important than playing "niche" music that he loved, or whether he just naturally went into decline as some of the older DJs did - such as John Kelly, Seb Fontaine, etc. That being said though, Carl Cox has been around for donkeys years - and is now 53 years of age - yet even now, he's still relevant to the scene, he's still current, he's still one of the most in demand DJs in the world - and he's still as good and still as passionate as ever - so I don't think that age can result in a decline that quickly if the heart is still in it. It's a shame Jules didn't go out on a high in 2005 - because then I'd have always regarded him as one of my all time favourite DJs and a true legend of the scene. Those last few years have really tarnished that view for me. I'll never ever forget Jules at his best - but unfortunately, it's going to be difficult to forget those bad few years too, sadly, for all the wrong reasons. May sound harsh - but I'm being honest about how I feel.

  39. I can't choose one, impossible for me. But Gatecrasher Summer Sound System 2001, the Saturday show. Always recall him dropping Hide U by Kosheen, Playa Sol, Stringer and starting With Precious Heart (Riva Remix) September 15th 2001. The post 9/11 show, mostly for Iio Rapture remix, Silicone Soul, G Club and Banda Sonora. Most of all the 'Hey Little Girl' track he played. The mood of the nation perfectly reflected, yet coming out of mourning (hence Radio 1 letting Chris Moyles do his last ever Saturday show that very day). Summer 2006, the Essential Mix he shared with Sander Van Doorn. The very last year Jules was at his peak for me, and trance. I stayed up that night to record the show on my PC via a dab radio plugin. Still have it on an old harddrive, but being as it's an Essential Mix it's not rare. I remember the crowd noise when he dropped Cherry Blossom by Marcell Woods, then mixed into Super8 Get Off. And finished with Team SR 'Leaving London'. Not part of the golden era but up there with the best he's done for me. Gatecrasher NEC Aoril 2001. David Forbes Questions, reminds me of watching that live on a Friday night on Rapture TV. 12 years old and too young to be there. Airwave's 'Save Me' retains a special place in my heart from that night on. Essential Selection, Sound City October 1997. Obviously never listened to this live as I was 9 years old at the time. But listening back to it reminds me of a time in my life, and those tracks I recall now were speed garage tracks. Hence why I asked for RIP Groove at a primary school disco, caught the bug early i guess.

  42. Chrissie, steer clear of that, it's not trusted. The issue with these sites is hosting for all adverts which is often annoying, but does provide good space for uploading. Hopefully if Simon can put on his skydrive it's straigt forward to download; clean, easy and unrestricted speed :-)

  43. I'd just about turned 14 when I started listening to Jules and buying vinyl, what great times they were , how things have changed. Listening to the show now and as for the current rubbish 1st hour, I'm actually enjoying it, even the Ellie Goudling remix fitted ok, much better selection of tracks than at othere times, even if most of them are on Armada labels Second hour well..... memories of how I walked to school back while it was still a bit dark in the morning n 98 listening to Ayla on my walkman (which I still own, it packed up playing tapes a few weeks back though the radio bit still works fine)(which I'd recorded from vinyl). As much as I'd loved to have spent my teenage years in the 70's due to my love of Disco, I feel priveliged in a way to have grownup during the Jules era of Radio 1.

  44. Way too many to mention! I could honestly trawl the tracklistings archives of 98-2001 and dig out obscure belters to fit a CD multipack!

  45. He simply means that you can click the 'reply' button and beneath the quoted text, write your reply... like so That way you don't have to double-post as you have done so far, not that it's a problem, it's just more neat to have the reply in the same post as the actual quotation, if you follow?

  47. CDex is excellent. Stick to the maximum constant bitrate of 320kbps for archiving CD tracks digitally. However, for audio clips for linking on messageboards I'd definitely go lower to reduce the filesize; 128kbps is plenty as Jason suggested
