  1. Hey all, Wanted to report back and update you on this, but firstly wanted to thank you all for your input and much valued help... Thanks so much for this info, we did manage to get through to the right person to inquire. We did try and would've much preferred to interact directly, but to no avail. Thank you both, but unfortunately it's now very doubtful for reasons below... I agree with Tom here. I know you like Mat and want to book him because you like his music, etc - but at the end of the day, if he costs £500, unless you're not too bothered about losing some cash, you do need to try to get that fee back. Before you commit to any DJ, it might be worth doing a bit of market research first. Who have other nights in your area booked before? Which DJ's pulled people in - and which flopped? Is it better to spend an extra £200 on a different DJ that will pull in an extra 50 people and put you into profit, rather than paying £200 less for a DJ that might not work and end up losing you money? It's a fine line - so try to find some things out first. After speaking with Mat's agent a fair bit and running through all the details etc., which they ask you to answer (all of which are variables in determining a cost), we were quoted a fair few times what's bold quoted above. We weighed it up and it was only based on 400-500 people and ultimately could not afford the risk. We did consider paying some out of our own pockets, but it came down to not being able to do so. It's a shame since we were/are psyched and would've loved to put him on and promote the whole thing. Expenses inc. hotel were also to be on top of that. I'm not sure if rates have moved on a lot from years ago and would've loved to compare to what Jules for example would charge. Thanks to all again
  2. Bit overdue, and did not initially take up on this as I pay to host all music from my site, but how does Soundcloud work in terms of membership and what space you can have?
  3. I've just checked out Mat's second set from the Electric Daisy Carnival in Vegas (fantastic set btw - as was his earlier one in May at Chicago) and after keeping fairly quiet about all this he awesomely took to the mic and said: “Yeah…I copied this song off Will.i.am.”. A few articles have gone up about it, one here and also here. He dropped Rebound about half way through his set, check it out!
  4. And now they have... Also take a look at this and this. Mat's also deleted his Twitter account, but I think I read from him it was before a lot of this controversy started and so not directly related, but coincidence. http://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/76984950.html Full respect to Anjuna with this and now sticking by and representing Mat and Arty. I also skimmed Mat's page and there was a comment on his FB, which was brilliant: "Will I NOT"! Also, Chris Brown has already pleaded ignorance, stating "I don't even know who Mat Zo or Arty is?"
  5. Thank you... Would that be the best route? Looking for an informal approach first to gauge options... I remember Briggsy booking Fabio Stein one time, but can't recall how it was done? How much would we be looking, any ideas?
  6. Although his sound differs from what sounds/style I came to love him for, I'm really enjoying his music and sets lately. I've shared these with a friend in work and he absolutely loves these. His EMix and latest set in Chicago are sublime. He helps run a local club night in Cardiff and we're interested in considering booking Mat for a gig. We would work up to heavily promote it. It would also be great to meet him. Does anyone know of any other channels to contact Mat for a booking? A quick Google search does not give much about his agent. Cheers, Aza
  7. It's certainly raises an eyebrow how three hours are allowed as opposed to the usual. But this seems to be more of a way to actually promote it for the BBC. It probably will showcase a lot of self promotional material, but I guess I'm still going to check it out to see what it's like
  8. Thanks you, Chrissie! Apologies, there were a few slight errors in the tracklisting which I've since adjusted. Do let us know your thoughts once you check it out
  9. Armin van Buuren is on the decks for a special three-hour Essential Mix!!!
  10. Hi all, Over the past few months I've been looking to put together a rather special mix - something which would showcase some of own personal trance faves over the trance era's we came to love, but also pay homage to Judge Jules and say "thank you" for introducing me to so many great records through his Saturday BBC Radio 1 shows. To celebrate the mix, I've compiled an essential-mix-type set at just over 2 hours. I would've loved to conclude with Jules remix of Gladiator (one of all-time faves), but for many reasons the track is not available, so instead finished up with something of similar sentiment. Please check it out if you get can and let me know your comments? The synopsis itself is included within the mix from my website, and so without further ado here's the tracklist: 01. 11. I would insist you do, Jason'age... Book by its cover and all that, you know ;-) Give me a shout and I'll put it on my SkyDrive for you...
  12. [ It's your opinion of course, but tracks like '24 Hours', 'Lucky Strike' & his remix of Signalrunners 'Recoil' for me at least are absolute trance beauties. 'Superman' was also good but was bit less tempo than the aforementioned, although a sweet track imo too.. .. Can see what you mean, as I really wanted to hear more of 'Blueprint' for example, but forgive the short ride for the brilliance on creativity, structuring and layering. The mix being littered with great philosophic quotes tying in with all the various genres was genius too. .
  13. Missed this, apologies, but thank you v.much for the response and for checking out the mix. Of course, I will check out the mix you point out Appreciate the feedback, although I must say with the traktor - a force of habit makes me still manually mix/cue/sync etc. I've always tried to mix as locked as possible - see if you can check out some of my other stuff, which range from 1210's to CDJ's
  14. Thanks Tom - agreed! I do love Nickson's production - and remix's! I did feature that track on a recent mix I did, I've put it on my list though, but also have 'Encounter' on there too - what you think?
  15. You can see from this page what Mat stated about 'Lucky Strike': It's one of my favourite tunes and kudos to him in that he has the ability to produce such a track and also focus and create other sounds.
  16. Echo that, too. I know what you mean, Chrissie, and second time round it's awesome. The first time I listened I was actually more surprised since my initial hunch after checking the tracklisting was it's a megamix, but it's far far from it! It really is his full effort in throwing down all the music he loves and really treating the Essential Mix with the respect a lot of us hold for it all those years ago - from where a DJ would do something really special. I'm on my third listen of this set now. The voice overlays are insane, extremely philosophical albeit in that Jigsaw like voice! Glad you enjoyed it Prydz's set the week before Zo's was also sublime!
  17. Hey all, I'm feeling reminisce and are thinking of putting together an essential mix type set with lushious chords, piano, riff and synth melodies. Tunes with gorgeous breakdowns that really do trance music justice and would resonate and uplift you. I'd like to invite you to make a suggestion of a track you love to nominate and help with the mix? Some initial tracks from me would be: Stoneface & Terminal - Blueprint Greg Downey - Once Again (Activa's Airflow Remix) Above & Beyond - Tri State (Robert Nickson Remix) I'll keep a few up my sleeve too  Cheers, Aza
  18. Cool - please let us know what you think, its a fantastic set :-)
  19. You're welcome. If you prefer, I can upload to my SkyDrive account for your ease?
  20. Despite his newer projects and sounds, I've also been a fan of Mat Zo. Having now managed to catch up on some audio of recent times, I checked out Prydz's Essential Mix followed by Zo's which was the week after. Having checked out the tracklist, I was initially a little dissapointed that the sounds I guess most of us grew to like him for were left out... In my opinion that proved the cliché of book and cover... If you listen to his reasoning in the opening statement and introduction for the mix: When I put together the A-Z mix of my career, I used a similar approach, but kept it dance/trance orientated. What Zo has done here is - by the looks of it - used his entire life's experience - across all genres! It's like a fusion of everything mixed, expertly structured and geniusly compiled. I think Zo has likened it to a journey through his cosmos of music and having studied Physics myself, (only after seeing past the cross between an electronic James Earl-Jones and The Saw Movie voice) resonated with the opening statements backed by luscious chords - quoting Carl Sagen: Throughout the mix Zo would then go on to countlessly quote the famous astronomer/cosmologist - often at times dropping each statement between transitioning from midtempo, disco, house, dubstep and trance. Here is the entire offering - 70 tracks in two hours! Tracklist: 01. Andrew Bayer – Let’s Hear That B Section Again [Anjunabeats] 02. The M Machine – Tiny Anthem [Owsla] 03. 21. Have been a big fan of these mix comps from Ferry... They seem to showcase his new style and the way the trance scene has evolved, but from my POV he play's my kinda thing. There are a few tracks here and there that have the electroy type sound, but I can handle those. Anyhow, times have been v.busy of late so have not had chance to check out this latest offering. Listened to it over the weekend and again to and fro work a few times, the track that stands out a clear mile from the rest is this (and even better I didn't know it was his own release until recently) - thoughts(?):
  22. Lol, you're right, I have a bit of an obsession but think Tim can certainly relate to it. We've often discussed tagging individual tracks properly let alone albums. I think your suggestion is great, I'll give that a go and see how it looks. I'll combine it with Chrissie's suggestion too - naming the albums with who they're mixed by and sorted by year. Will get some photos up too to show you...
  23. Been sorting my music out - mainly putting on my media centre computer as it brings all your content to life with artwork, backdrops etc. It's got me thinking, especially in particular, of how best to categorise my dance music... Best question I have and would welcome opinion on is the Trance Nation series. On my iPod, I ripped my Trance Nation (1-5) tagged under the legend himself, Ferry Corsten. I then ripped Trance Nation Electric and Anthems which was mixed by the other legend himself, Judge Jules. Now I've also seen this series as Ferry's since he did the first tranche, however, I have other albums e.g. Judge's, Rank 1 and Andy Moore's. But how would you organise them? Since they're currently under Ferry, I'd like to now open them up to include the others, so how'd you approach it? I don't like the 'Various Artist' tag since there's a load of stuff I have which are various albums. These deserve an entry of their own. Although it's the label, would you say Ministry of Sound, perhaps?
  24. Awesome! Genuinely gutted missed this so hope another opportunity, especially with a mixing get together is possible!
  25. Chrissie, steer clear of that, it's not trusted. The issue with these sites is hosting for all adverts which is often annoying, but does provide good space for uploading. Hopefully if Simon can put on his skydrive it's straigt forward to download; clean, easy and unrestricted speed :-)
