  1. Great recording here and I fully agree with you Chewbs that jingles and voice overs provide recordings with presence and character. This is recording from Tong is a simple reminder of just how big the trance explosion was in the late 90s. It would be hard to think of Tong doing a pure Trance feature mix these days. Thanks for sharing.
  2. Selected as today's morning work audio and did not disappoint! Easy to see why many during the Golden Era said that Jules real peak was the mid 90s. Great set.
  3. Another great showcase of tunes from you Aza. Some highlights for me were: York - On The Beach: A little commercial but I'm a sucker for this one. Really love the rhythm of the bass. DJ Elite - That Fuct Camera: I can remember the huge hype about this when it came out. Everyone wanted a copy and it was going for silly prices on Discogs. Dumonde - Tomorrow: A Gatecrasher anthem for sure! Looking forward to your next selection.
  4. I've found out some more about Horror Cabaret which you can read here: link.
  5. After re-listening to a Jules Recording from 1999 I did some more investigation into Celine Diablo - Horror Cabaret. To summarise the situation, Horror Cabaret was a Masterson and Jules co-production which was not released formally on Closet, Jules' small imprint for their tech-trance productions. The tune was given modest support by Jules on the radio and when playing out live in late 1999. For two examples of this listen to Naughty But Nice (Nov 99) and Judge Jules Friday Night (24-12-1999). You will notice that there is a difference in the two tracks though with the latter having additional production, most notably a significantly more developed lead section. While Horror Cabaret wasn't given a formal vinyl release, apparently a complete recording was released on a Ministry Mag Cover CD, Class of 99, which came with the January 2000 edition of Ministry Mag (Discogs). However, this is the initial less developed version as recorded in the Naughty But Nice recording from Nov 99. This could explain why it wasn't released on Closet, if licensing issues to Ministry prevented a subsequent release. It could of course have been because Jules and Masterson didn't feel it was up to releasable standard as they did with Hi-Gate - Tantrum, or Martha - Arthur for example. The fact that they re-recorded a second version seems to support the latter theory, though this wasn't communion back in the day. For those interested, this cover CD has been uploaded to YouTube by someone and you can listen to this recording of Horror Cabaret here:
  6. Nice find this. It's a shame the Dub version isn't a complete instrumental though!
  7. Cheesy as anything, but I really do have a soft spot for this tune. I feel it's commercial but done in the right way. Re-listening to this show today reminded me of this one.
  8. Interesting that it can often be a tune which you overlooked or weren't hugely into at the time. Over the last few years I've really grown to appreciate Caned & Unable by Jules/Masterson which at the time I liked but wasn't a huge supporter of. The most nostalgic recently has been DJ JamX - 'Keep It That Way!' (Pulsedriver Remix) which I latched onto from listening to some Jules recordings from '99 over the last few months.
  9. Really enjoying this mix in terms of the tunes selected. However, doesn't really feel like a Jules mix in terms of mixing style and techniques. Intuition says this is a digital mix in his name. Still good listening to get me through a busy Wednesday morning.
  10. Thanks for the share Fuzzy. Anyone else find it amusing to see Jules back on Kiss? The full circle is complete!
  11. Another option is to seek the opinion of one of the producer heavy forums such as https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/.
  12. Absolutely a must listen. It's crammed full of hugely iconic tunes from the era and offers a nice mix of house, tech, trance and commercialism which only Jules could pull off. Also one of the recordings from the archive which I can remember listening to when broadcast. What an era we were lucky enough to enjoy!

  14. Dare I say it but I think this is better than Jules' own live streams!
  15. I'm glad that you enjoyed this so much @Alex, unfortunately for me Jules had moved on musically from me by this point though there were a few nice tunes in this Essential Mix.
  16. How did it all work? Did Radio 1 supply the sound system? How many people were there?
  17. Thanks for sharing this @DJTomasB. I've really been enjoying all the audio recordings of Jules covering the Essential Selection recently.

  20. It's one of Jules best ever mixes in my opinion. I'll look for the CD tomorrow.
  21. Glad to see you've got my scans up now Fuzzy. We all know that audio is most important so don't worry too much. I have the Ministry CD which goes with the article if you'd like me to rip and upload?
  22. As much as we all love the golden era, it's really good to see a huge increase in pre-Radio 1 Jules recordings. Thanks to all involved and looking forward to more.
