  1. I am listening to this after uploading a complete rip of the Essential Mix with PVD later that night: 2001 PVD & Jules Essential Mix @ GCSSS.

What can I say but peak time classic Jules in this cut from the GCSSS.  I was there for this one too and still have the T-shirt to prove it.  So many memories of this time trawled up by the selection on tunes on offer here.

A particular highlight is Playa Sol - No-One Driving which is a perfect example of commercially accessible without overt commercialism.  Banging tune.

  2. For those in any doubt, the complete recording is well worth a listen:

    Ferry Corsten
    Armin Van Buuren
    Judge Jules
    Timo Mass

Mass is poorly booked and should have played before Corsten as there is a distinct climb down in the energy after Jules' last tune.  However the pacing and tunes for the first three DJs is excellent. Even AVB, who I'm not the greatest fan of, delivered that night. Brings back plenty of memories and I definitely would have been watching this one live.

  3. There is an almost complete version of Trantum on a Jules' MoS CD, I think it was a Clubbers Guide to Ibiza, as the closing track.  You could probably get an edit together if you tried.  Failing that would be intersting to see what Jules would say if you asked him.

As for Caned & Unable, I remember liking it at the time but never being overly fond of it when released.  Then Jules dropped it at a Gatecrasher classics night c.2016 and suddenly all the elements made sense to me an it's now one of, if not my all time, favourite Jules & Masterson tracks.  It has to be heard, or rather felt, to appreciate.

  4. 2024 will soon be here. Due to numerous life changes, all positive, I've had very little time to dedicate to clubbing, DJing or muisc in general over the last twelve months.  Hopefully this will change next year.

I did however make the long trip to Sheffiled to see Scott Bond at his Rebooted promotion two nights ago. Some great classisc from him and Craig Connelly; hearing GTR - Mistral was a particular highlight.

It's a little dissapointing to see the 2023 thread still so high up in Open Chat, but sadly understandable. Still, the board lives! I hope you are all keeping well and looking after yourselves and family. Thanks to all the regulars who keep this place ticking over.

Jules is playing a 2 hour set near me next weekend. (Probably a classics mix) Tempted to go solo. But if he's going to play jingles and "Put your hands in the air" voice overs - i don't think i'll bother.

Did you go in the end? I've seen Jules do a number of classics sets and, true to form, they have been very inconsistent, either excellent or poor with no middle ground.

  6. Sub-par broadcast from Jules. This is a shame given that 2004 was a very strong year for trance.  2005 could well be the divergence point between Jules and my musical tastes.

The PA from A&B and the Tiesto 'incident' are historical interest pieces from this recording, however the rest isn't worth it.  Tiesto should be given the benefit of the doubt for the interview though, it's clear there were monitoring issues with plenty of 'what?' audible but he doesn't come across very positively regardless.
