Gold N Delicious / Les Hemstock

I absolutely couldn't remember what Ascension sounded like. I usually have a good musical memory so had to look it up: youtube. Ascension never did it for me though I am intrigued to listen to the sets you have linked WAP. A quick scan from the first one had Darey's remix of Blockster - Grooveline which is one of my favorite from the era. Thanks for sharing.

    FSOE Clandestine

Admittedly, I am a little slow to pick up on this sub-label, however I am really enjoying the releases on FSOE Clandestine recently. While they are getting slightly formulaic, typically featuring a heavy tech influenced bass with trance saw breakdown, overall I am very impressed. This reminds of the excitement that Nukleuz could generate at it's apex. You could almost buy a 12" blind from them and still be sure of a high quality release. Any thoughts or particular recommendations? Discogs: FSOE Clandestine

    FSOE Clandestine

You are very correct about Bonzai. MIKE and L-Vee were fertile minds and it was truly was a lucky time to be into electronic music. There haven't been any releases on the other FSOE imprints which have captured my interest. The harder techy basslines of Clandestine tend to peak my interest though. Two releases I have particularly enjoyed are: Paul Webster & Casey Rasch - Silencer David Forbes & Paul Denton - Blizzard

Good stuff Aza. I still need to leave you feedback on I & II!

    aiff to flac/wav

I use FFMPEG for all transcoding. You have excellent control over all the variables but you have to do some reading through the manual to work out what you want to achieve. This is a command line application so you must be happy with a terminal. I would generally avoid online converters as it is difficult to tell what options they are using. VLC should be pretty good as it is a very reliable product. If you want something simple stick with that but if you want more control try FFMPEG.
  6. Listened to this in the car this evening. Stand out track is Hands Burn - Good Shot (Fontaine & Vern Mix) - a very under rated classic. I also like the fact that you played the non-vocal version of Sunrise as the vocal edit seems to get more support on the nostalgia mixes for what reason I don't know. Really enjoyed the mix from Sonique to Matt Darey.
  7. The good old days! Added to the 'to listen' list drtim.

Excellently put there Neuro. Nothing to add other than simple support to your view. You are spot on.

Judge Jules @ Gatecrasher Boxing Day, Sheffield (26 Dec 2016)

Bigsteve, the next event is a Red & Black Night. I don't think the lineup has been released yet but bound to be some good tuneage from Bond.
  11. Based on his last performance at Gatecrasher (link) I have decided to attend GC's Boxing day tonight. Jules is playing the closing set 0430-0600. I will attempt to come back with a track lists and some videos. If anyone else from the board is attending, please do let me know.

Technocality I - Mixed by Aza

Have you got a direct download for this, Aza? Make it easier to listen to in the Car for me.

1999-09-11 - Judge Jules, Saturday Show

    Awesome.
  14. Solid mix, Briggsy. I particularly liked hearing Boca - Play With Me again. My copy of this has an annoying warp which makes it particularly difficult to mix.
  15. Some belters in there mate. Like Aza's Technocality, I have added it to my to listen list.

Mixmag article - the evolution of the turntable

Nice post. I especially love the 'pancake tuners' reference. With the pace of technological change I do wonder where we will be in years to come with DJing technology. Also I am surprised that the laser turntable hasn't made a re-appearance for those wishing the highest possible archive quality of sound prior for digital DJing.

Felix - Don't You Want Me (Pants & Corset Remix) [White] 22. G.D. - Choral Reef (Original Mix) [IDJ] Particular highlights for me!

2002-08-24 - Judge Jules, Live at Creamfields

I do kind of remember meeting some JJ Message Board members that day, but I must admit exactly who escapes me. I spend most of the event with one of my mates from School (!) and a friend I'd made at the first ever GKGG in 2001. Very bad to admit forgetting to meet every, and how I'd forget the famous No2 fan I'll never know! Can you remember who was there?

    AUDACITY

If you increase volume past 0db you will get clipping; there is no way round this. If you want to increase the overall volume of the track without clipping you will need dynamics processing, also known as compression. Compression is a reasonably simple concept but one which is very hard to master to get professional results, therefore I think you are better off just normalising to 0db and leaving it there. Modern music is recorded with little dynamic range, the difference between the loudest and quietest part of a recording and if you start over compressing it further it will sound worse. AUDACITY

You need to normalise the file; this will bring the loudest peak of the waveform to 0db.
