@Chrissie, we did the chavviest thing - got some 125cc mopeds rented, it was a great laugh and we saw the whole island - if you do that, just remember you have to pay for the fuel first, then fill up! This caught us out a couple of times lol. Away from San An you can really appreciate its true beauty. We were speakign to a few locals, it would appear that San An is the necessary evil on the island. There are some well nice oddball spots S'Amaggassa is like a hippy spot that was amazing and my favourite (east side of the island). Portinatx is quite nice for the view, but its mostly families there. Es Canar was interesting to see how the locals really live, its quite eye opening. Cala Llonga was also very nice - some hot women there You really have to see the whole isalnd, rent a car, quad or a ped, it'll be the best thing you do over there (apart from the club nights of course ) I really like the small bars/clubs where they play house/tech and there were loads of them in these hidden spots, we just didnt have time to go to them all. i'm well jealous you're going, i really want to go again for the closing parties, but just cant afford it.

@Jaylo, i would say, forget about trying to get gigs in Ibiza this late in the season. You need to start hassling the promoters around about march april time apparently. I spoke to one of the guys at The Bay Bar, and thats apparently what most do. If i were you, i would go out there and just enjoy it, there's always next year. But yes, i always find it takes me about an hour to get back into mixing if i havent done it for a few weeks. Frustrating.

@Chrissie, we walked past Plastik and Hed Kandi (which used to be called something else - The Egg? i think) nearly every night we were there and it was nearly always dead! Oh how could i forget Itaca, love that place too.

We've been this year already and want to go again! We stayed at The Arenel Hotel, next to Linekers on the strip. We like it cos you can bag the cheaper(!) drinks before hitting Space or Amnesia, and its next to the Bay Bar which plays some nice music, and is chilled before a big night out. Highlight for us this year was without doubt the Terrace at the Radio 1 Weekend. Funkagenda was awesome. I really wanted to go to Cocoon @ Amnesia, but we had the med-peds and wanted to get use out of them on that day. I also wanted to see Junior Jack, he was at Mambo a week after we left. Oh well. I still think my favourite place on the island is Cafe Mambo. The atmosphere is epic.
  6. Phwoar, that Rhythm Masters mix of Untidy Tidy's is a kicker aint it. That is right up my street. I wish house was still like this. To me, this track sums jules up in his heyday. Banging with those shades of funk.
  7. 1999 just shades it for me. Looking at the tracklisting made me smile. Oh how things have gone
  8. I've been using Traktor for the last 3 years or so now. At first i was using the timecode vinyl (which to me is the perfect solution) but more and more dj booths these days dont have technics in them. I didnt really like CDJ's to be fair, so i thought more and more about a midi controller. I now use a Vestax VCI 100 mk2. Its very good, i love it. I do want the Kontrol S4, but thats quite expensive, may in the future. A lot of DJ's are now using midi controllers + laptop. In Ibiza this year, i saw a lot of DJ's using this method. Its easy to setup, portable, reliable, and isnt that bad on the "feel". Those are the reasons that i have decided to go with the midi controller anyway.
  9. yeah, been moving house and decorating for like 6 months, i've also been beavering away djing and trying (!) to learn production....with a nagging mrs in tow
  10. firstly, Tom Bailey is absolutely right. This #trancefamily thing is fail. The kids dont acknowledge what came before. Trance means nothing to me anymore, it's true, as you get older you prefer the groove to euphoric breakdowns. Anyway, i stopped playing trance about 3-4 years ago, going way more into house and tech. I've always seen myself as house dj who plays a bit of trance anyway. I've always kinda agreed with Briggsy. He;s right. These days, tunes are quite weak because everything can be done in one DAW. No hardware or knowledge of how to use it is needed. People simply go on the forums asking "i want to make the bass sound that Porter Robinson or Skrillex use" and you get guys make half arsed tune using those sounds, i mean, look at Deadmau5, when "not exactly" came out, it was fresh, then for the following year or so , you heard endless 8th note ripoffs. Copying basically. Whilst this has always gone on, i think its now more prevalent, seeing as back in the day, copycate tunes probably got turned away at the demo stage in some record execs office. My take on it is, labels now dont have to take the risk. They get a bunch of .wavs and put them out. It hasnt cost them anything in terms of promotion. No test pressing, acetates, videos or anything. Now record labels idea of promotion is to stick a hyped tune on some trendy blogs. Tunes now have a shelf life of about 2 weeks, whereas the late 90's and early 00's tunes had to be promo'd 4 months in advance to build the hype. You dont get that anymore either. Another things is, as Briggsy said, everyone now has access to the same tunes. Which i suppose is why people now do re=edits or bootlegs, to try to be different. When vinyl stopped being the main form factor for dance, i think a large part of it died, the grass roots if you will. I know that sounds old and snobby, but i think its true.

    Ibiza 2011

we're going from 3rd august for 8 nights. Staying at the Arunel (again! but its close to everything, and i get to sleep on the balcony ) Looking forward to seeing 2000 and one, Prydz if i can, Defected In The House, Pirupa and Riva Starr. Getting gigs in Ibiza would be very hard. I wouldnt want to do it unless i was a bit more established on the production side to be honest. For some reason there'd be less pressure i think. But Tom is right, especially in the early season. They let anyone play pretty much.
  12. I'm a blackberry guy. I just dont dig iPhones. I see them as very gimmicky, the people that i know that have one, always have problems with as a....yes, a PHONE! yes the apps rule, the screen resolution awesome, but it sucks as a phone, and thats what puts my off them. I also dislike apple's restricting policies. I like the look of the HTC HD7, windows phone 7 is a nice os, thats what i'll get next i think, when my contract is up.
  13. It is epic. This is the best essential mix from the last 2-3 years easily. That rework of Voodoo Ray is noice, Tong & Rogers have wonderfully updated that bassline. This is just superb.
  14. i was working last night and only caught parts of this. Does anyone know where the shows have been uploaded too? I want them for the collection, so i need to download them. I can only find them on alldj.org, but they now force you to sign up for a premium account at filesonic before letting you download anything.
  15. Thats not bad at all, i think i would have used a bit of the vocal and chop it etc. I much prefer something like that to a mashup. I've been learning to produce tracks for about the last 5 months now too. I feel i'm nearly ready to make a track. What software are you using? I'm on FL Studio, after trialling Reason (found too difficult), Ableton (didnt like the interface) and Pro Tools (Couldnt get my head around it), so went with FL Studio. Jaylo, how long does it take you to make a track? Do you find procrastination a big problem (fitting it in between working and a girlfriend - not easy to find the time!)
  16. whilst on the topic (slightly) of feeling old, i recently threw a load of old VHS tapes out. I watched one in the VCR and recorded an episode of Corrie from 2003. Well i saw this ad on it, smiled to myself and thought S*it i'm getting old... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIVqLa8xooU&feature=related
  17. he is right though. For me personally, i feel that its no coincidence that the rise of mp3 has resulted in the general quality of music not being as it was and, dare i say it, more disposable. I also do still use vinyl, well, timecode vinyl. But i'm going to get myself a midi controller in the coming months. It's a sad time but you have to keep up with technology.
  18. its your CDJ's way of saying "i cant do this anymore, Traktor is bigger, badder, rougher and tougher!"
  19. Creative Zen Touch 2 is the one i use. I used to want Apple stuff - but for the wrong reasons. They are very gimmicky, and once the novelty wears off, they simply become a fashion statement. I have the Creative Zen Touch x-Fi 2. I've always had Creative MP3 players, purely because they really do sound the best. Its also got an FM Tuner on it. I've never had any faults with it either, and Creative Central is waaaaaaay better than iTunes. I dont feel like I have the control over iTunes, which is why i never took to it. I had a Zen Touch 20gb and it was built like a tank, lasted me a good 5 years and wasnt treated well, but still marched on! Apple is a very trendy brand, i wanted a macbook pro a while back, but i'm now getting a tricked out Sony Vaio - for the same price you get much better spec, its upgradeable etc etc . Apple is just very, very well marketed, thats all.

  21. Briefly off the top of my head...i know by now some of these have crossed over, but i liked em before they did! For the floor; Gramophonedzie "Spend Some Time" (Original Mix) Yolanda B Cool & Dcup "Speaka No Americano" (Original Mix) Chris Lake & Nilski "Minimal Life" (Club Mix) Nalin & Kane "Beachball" (Chris Lake Remix) Cirez D "Bauerpost" (Dub Mix) Ronan Portela "Beat Up Deep Inside" (Joris Voorn Mash) Underworld "Always Love A Film" (DJ Madskillz Remix) Roman Tapia "Combustian" (Club Mix) Lake & Lys "Atari" (Original Mix) Pirupa "Funky" (Original Mix) Cheese factor singalong tune that reminds me of some dodgy Ibiza West End bars (cough Capones ); Flo Rida feat David Guetta "Club Cant Handle Me" (Original Club Mix) DJ of the year, i'd say Chris Lake or 2000 & One. Lake in particular has been so consistent.
  22. oooh i'd love to go to Ibiza next year. I wanna go so bad, but the girlfriend doesnt share my love for house, and theres no way she'll let me go with the lads! damn!
  23. It was pretty much Ferry Corsten that got me into djing. I used to see his name on every other track on compilations back in 1999. So i had to check him out. His early sound, as briggsy said, is the way trance should be, but the fashionistas ripped the piss into it, and the producers making it - making it uncool etc. What did it get replaced with? Tribal (how boring was that!?!). Ferry's old tunes just seemed to sound so big, the synths so fat, they are still good records. As a DJ aswell, he was awesome, i remember seeing him at crasher in 2000 for the first time, and was quite taken aback by him being (at the time) about 26 years old, because his production was prolific and consistent. I liked some of the "Rock Your Body Rock" era tunes too. Though they werent quite as good because they just didnt have the euphoria. At this time his djing went downhill too. Nowadays, im into house/tech house, so dont really follow trance anymore, but i still do check the odd dj here and there, and i caught the Ferry Corsten essential mix from earlier this year, and i was quite impressed with it. It did seem like it was back to the days of old. Though they will never come back. I would agree that as a DJ and producer, i think he is better than Armin and Tiesto also. Tiesto isnt bad i must admit, but he just plays whats current and what everyone else is playing. Whatever happens, respect to Ferry Corsten.
  24. thats a v.nice list...but where is 2000 & one? He was awesome when we saw him in Ibiza!
  25. errr Eric Prydz "Call On Me" always reminds me of an ex :s
