Nice one ... JJ came in with that Pizzaman tune @ Ministry - Frisky one time. I'd heard it on his show a couple of times and thought nothing of it at all. But when it came in during his set it sounded very different ... then again, that system is so perfect that you could dance to a fart coming through it! The Cotton Club - Honky Tonk remixes are on the next mix, which I'll be posting soon.

I only really like the first part of Ice Rain, for me it just drops back in again, and on these mixes I'm tending to throw a lot down. So many tunes, so little time...

Thanks for listening and for the feedback.

  4. Had a lot of laughs seeing Jules in 98. Frisky was still @ Ministry (best sound system I ever felt) and we were  I went off him after 99 as the Trance saturation was too much for me. I liked earlier Trance examples and mixed with pumping grooves that took in tribal -breakbeats - bouncy funky styles. I was so off my face in those days I'm surprised I can remember any of the sets lol. 95 - 97 was my fave for the more pumping stuff

  5.

Haven't been on here for ages or done any JJ Retro mixes … threw this together at the wkd.

Lots of Jules Trance era stuff up on here, this stuff covers my period of clubbing in London and listening to Jules flagship Kiss Fm Fri – Sat slots from 91 – 97. If your looking Trance only then forget it. If you like "Pumping" music then check it out.

These were the big tunes of the day in Jules' box and on his Kiss FM playlist … shame there are literally zero shows around from those days, as it was still very much pre-digital. I had dozens of tapes with his shows and others but they got thrown away by mistake during a move a few years back. I enjoyed tracking down these tunes as many never made it to the CD mixes that were around back then.

Jules was on rotation for all the regular club nights and specials all the time. Peach @ Camden w Graham Gold, Frisky @ Ministry (he would do 3 hour sets in the box) Gallery @ Turnmills, Serious @ The Cross, Divine @ Bagleys and Lloyd Studios. Kiss did some good allnighters @ Shepard Bush Empire as well. All the other big names were always around, Fontaine, Tall Paul, John Kelly, Tony De Vit, El Tongo, Blocko and Alex P, Healy, and the rest.

Its odd to look at London clubbing now with the 90s era as an afterthought, it was a seriously hedonistic time and there was so many nook and cranny places to hang out in all day after clubbing. Or just roll up to most pubs with decks and spin your own tunes. Pre-surveillance world … you can't take a shit now without it being analysed by some suits in a Batcave in the next room … glad I got my rocks off in that earache lol that was 21 years ago (WTF ...)

I enjoy early Trance stuff but have always been more into a spread of styles, which Jules was more about in earlier times. Anything from Funky – Tribal – breakbeats - uplifting and the downright nutbag tunes he seemed to have an ear for. Its basically just “Pumping” …  More on the way now I got the bug again lol ... enjoy.

  6. Another update for my JJRetromix series

Shame the MOS Frisky sets were not broadcast in 96 97 98 as JJ really smashed it. The Dance Nation 3 Launch in March was no exception. This is the bulk of what JJ played during a monster 3 hour set. Great night, with Seb Fontaine and Brandon Block in the bar room and Tong, Tony De Vit and JJ in the Box (Main Room) There are obvious ommissions, as JJ always had THOSE White Labels and Mashups you couldn't find elsewhere. One in particular that I never found was: Luka - NY Style Dub. A powerful groove he was all over in March - April 97. Its on the tail end of a mastermix on the KIss FM 97 radio session with Whitehead that's up here. I'd pay good £ for that tune now!

Enjoy the mix. 97 was one of JJ best years and the DJ's hadn't all tranced out too much. Check my other thread for more of the same :D

Maximum - Take Me There - Past Midnight Dub > what a tune < a dj friend of mine always mixed > Dastrix - Aquarius> then came > Maximum - Take Me There ! 1997 < miss those days :rubbish:

    whats the song @1.19 min?

The one after flowtation is Bassbin twins - Out Of Hand

the song right after > members of mayday - sonic empire ? 1h19min is the one i'm looking for.

flowtation comes at the and of set 1.55

Haha ... S'cuse me. My Media player read out in mins, so thats the misread. Been smoking too much. Sharp Boys remix of Serial Diva: Gotta Love For You.

  10. I didn't like JJ's remix of Funky Groove ... the original was way more driving ... He played all these tunes @ Frisky MOS when we went down for my Birthday on the Fri 24th July. JJ and John Kelly had both come straight down from the live broadcast in Liverpool for the R1 dance party there. We were at the Brighton one and it was crazy. JJ was still doing great sets that mixed pumping club tunes with Trance. I never could find this mix of "In My House." the great pumping era was 96 -99 for me.

  11. Top man for the tracklist, a few in there I never knew! Thanks.

Much easier (for me anyway) to listen on Zippy, will give a blast later. In all honesty, it's a year earlier than I started listening to house and trance so will be a bit of a leap into the unknown, but am intrigued, non-the less

Its not much different from 97 98 stuff. Some wkd tunes that year ... I was already 3 years into clubbing with JJ, amongst the otherdj's - styles and nights - FM slots I liked. Its always different when you've been through it lol.

  12. JJRETROMIX: 96 VOL: 1

More favourites from JJ swag bag o tunes, this time dipping into 1996. A transitional year for House. With harder edged tunes coming through and the release of Introspective of House at the end of the year, which showcased much of what was bangin' and to come in 97. Frisky had kicked off big time @ Ministry and Clockwork Orange raves had some insane nights and line-ups @ Camden Palace and The Cross. Gallery @ turnmills was really making strides with Sister Bliss and Tall Paul ... Graham Gold's Peach always had JJ as guest and Divine put on some great specials @ Bagleys and Loyd Studios ... Mad year for clubbing and festivals.

  13. Hi all,

Could sombody tell me if 1994 was the only year that Judge Jules played chuff Chuff or did he do more?. If he did I can't find any more out there.

    Top site by the way.

    Thanks in advance.

I saw him there in 97. John Kelly played there a lot as well. Most of the big room - big choon DJ's were playing there in the 90s. If they weren't playing they were all there in some state lol They did crossover parties with Clockwork Orange, etc. One of my mates used to do stripping with the Dreamboys. so we got invited to a lot of the Northern bashes like Moneypennies, etc ... they were too glambag for me, I preferred my London stomps like Camden Palace -Cross - Turnmills - Ministry for that type of music. But if you like half naked women (who doesn't?!) then it was a Pulling Paradiso

  14. Can I make the mixes downloadable on Mixcloud without a pro-account? Or I could just send them to this site so they can be downloaded from here if the admins ok with it?

  15. That's the thing, it has to be the same small pool of tracks mostly used over and over a millions times to get the youngsters and such to buy the comps.

It's a shame when MOS moved away from having Big names mix their regular series of comps for mister mastering engineer using pro tools to save the money they were paying the big names. The downfall has gone from there.

That and with the evolution of online streaming.

For sure ... a lot of the MOS were computer mixed, anyway ... even the earlier ones

  16. Looks like another anthems comp to fall in the sea of existing ones. It's a shame, as many of the records Jules carried around in his swag bag were brilliant. Even the not so well known ones ... and the problems with Copyright on the Boots and Mashups ... that's why I am doing those JJRetromixes and showcase many of the tunes that rocked in the 90s that never get any play these days. Most these big release comps are a waste of time. Not for club connoisseurs.
