  1. I saw him there in 97. John Kelly played there a lot as well. Most of the big room - big choon DJ's were playing there in the 90s. If they weren't playing they were all there in some state lol They did crossover parties with Clockwork Orange, etc. One of my mates used to do stripping with the Dreamboys. so we got invited to a lot of the Northern bashes like Moneypennies, etc ... they were too glambag for me, I preferred my London stomps like Camden Palace -Cross - Turnmills - Ministry for that type of music. But if you like half naked women (who doesn't?!) then it was a Pulling Paradiso

  3. For sure ... a lot of the MOS were computer mixed, anyway ... even the earlier ones
  4. 1992-01-10 - Judge Jules and Paul Trouble Anderson, KissFM View File No tracklisting yet, please help build one Submitter Bongoloid77 Submitted 07/10/2016 Category Other Judge Jules Broadcasts
  5. Looks like another anthems comp to fall in the sea of existing ones. It's a shame, as many of the records Jules carried around in his swag bag were brilliant. Even the not so well known ones ... and the problems with Copyright on the Boots and Mashups ... that's why I am doing those JJRetromixes and showcase many of the tunes that rocked in the 90s that never get any play these days. Most these big release comps are a waste of time. Not for club connoisseurs.
  6. https://www.mixcloud.com/anderson77/jj-retromix-june-july-97/ Here is a series of JJRetromixes spanning 93 -99. Some of my favourite tunes as caned by JJ in the respective years, either on his Kiss FM - or R1 shows or out in the then vast expanse of London Clubland and beyond. SEE FURTHER DOWN THE THREAD FOR RECENT UPDATES TO THE SERIES --- NEW UPDATES BEING ADDED ALL THE TIME Listening to some of the mixes on here stirred a lot of memories from the 90s. I never really looked back with music, simply because it does NOT feel like 20 fkn years! Not to sound unappreciative, but a few of the bootleg mixes on here from 96 -97 were somewhat underwhelming, and there are LOADS of bangin tunes from the mid to late 90s that really ripped up the dancefloor. These tunes hold some great memories for me, and many never ended up on any available comps or JJ Emixes. There are a few big tunes that all will recognize, but I wanted to put across a proper set the way I heard it, not just an “anthems” set that most people play safe with … Still bite my lip over how many Kiss shows I used to have on tape that got thrown out by mistake in a big box ... Some crazy memories of Frisky @ MOS, Gallery @ Turnmills, Clockwork Orange @ Camden Palace & The Cross, Divine @ Bagley's, Peach @ Camden Palace, and many others that made 90s clubbing a golden earache! The type of things that went on in clubs back had to be seen to be believed ... with surveillance the way it is now, the esoteric side of clubbing and "who knows" is pretty much gone forever ... I did try to go clubbing a few times over the last ten years, but the mood, attitude, and moreover the music itself has completely changed. In those days it was pumping grooves, with Trance starting to find its way into the "big room - big choon" DJ's sets. I went off of it after 99 and back to Tribal and Breaks. Mixed live, on the fly, using Traktor. Was quite pissed when I got into this first one, so forgive the couple of blatant missed cue points ... other than that the mix came together quite well. A good representation of what was in JJ box at the given dates/years. My way of saying thanks for a well set out site in honour of the Judge ...ENJOYO ...
  7. I had the white label of this and played it @ my NYE gig @ Black Bull... tore the place down... PHATTEST groove... I mixed it out on the breakdown. We saw Jules @ Ministry in the same month... they had taken to putting him in the bar instead of the main room "box," which was irritating as the sound in the Bar was shit... he ended his set with the original Jane Fonda workout record that Sinclar sampled for Gym Tonic.
  8. Thank you Bongoloid77 for comments and amazing facts! Mac Zimms tune is one of my favourites in this EM, uplifing and epic indeed! "The Amos tune is at the end of John Kelly's Mix on Introspective of House 3rd Dimension. I have the 10 inch record in my collection" Have you got it with Martin Luther King´s speech? As I wrote earlier Amos released this track back in 1995. This Julesy´s EM version is a mystery for me. No records about bootleg version(s) on the web. Yes it has the speech... John Kelly Played it at the end of his set @ Ministry in July 97. It was on a White Label... the official Positiva release didn't have, which is probably down to Copyright, etc ... That was one wkd summer of tunes from Jules. Saw him all over the place... Gallery @ Turnmills on my birthday, The Cross, Peach @ Camden Palace... am putting together mixes from 95-99 featuring tunes I heard him spin that never made it onto released mixes or this Emix... I will upload them here when ready
  9. I talked a lot about my experiences stalking Jules from 94 -98 and wanted to post tunes from the Frisky eraches 96-98, find out if anyone else went there at that time? in 96 the main Clubs to see Jules were Ministry, The Cross, Camden Palace (Peach, Clockwork Orange, Divine) sometimes Bagleys, the infamous SW1 Club, and Loyd Studios in SW. Even saw him doing a few Kiss Specials @ Shepards Bush Empire in 96/97. I will post about other times and place I saw Jules and post the relevant tunes... I'm going to do a few tribute mixes from 95 -98 using Ableton, which I've recently got into... as I have a load of favorite tunes from those years that need attention and mixing up...
  10. Tomas B. THANK YOU for this version of the emix! Was out clubbing when it was on so could only ever get the crummy sounding, incomplete versions... this is pitched faster, too... the right bpm! The Amos tune is at the end of John Kelly's Mix on Introspective of House 3rd Dimension. I have the 10 inch record in my collection from the old days when I used to DJ in bars and basement clubs along Fulham Road in Chelsea (then known as the beach) in the late 90s. He finished his set with it @ Ministry in July 97 after doing 2 hours of pure pumpin club biz Hearing him spin that Nevins v Run DMC in summer 97... who would have known how massive that track would become! Love the Jungle Brothers - Hitmen and Bambaata house mixes, too.... Never found this mix of De Boss: On the run, either... The funky breaks track labelled as Prime Target, is it Johan S? Thats what i loved most about Jules, those obscure funky White Labels he always got hold of ... the groove it samples is from Mings Disco Machine, also sampled by Deborah Wilson on "Free" which Jules used on his JDJ mix in 93... funky. Love how he brings it in over Progress Funk's acid breaks. The Mac Zimms tune is what uplifiting is all about...
  11. Shame there isn't a better quality version with the Capricorn 20hz from the start... Jules started his set with that tune @ Ministry in November 97 @ a Golden Tour night... rammed... he followed John Kelly's 3 hr set... Kelly was resident then. The place went apeshit... wkd track, had actually been around since 93
  12. Ha, nice one guys! BTW one missing track from the mix is Firmly undaground... TUNE! Found it on some old 97 trance comp recently CJ Bolland Hyde and Seek - Firmly Undaground Disco Citizens
  13. I had many tapes of Jules Kiss FM mixes from 91 - 97... classic house mastermixes, so many... left em in a box at an old flat thinking it was junk... if it was ONE tune I could get my hands on would still sound RUDE today on a bassline tip its that LUCA: NY STYLE DUB... HUUUGE tune... Jules played it all the time early/mid 97 @ Ministry's Frisky night... never found it anywhere... I asked Jules personally when I bumped into him @ Nott Hill Carnival and just smiled said he was lucky to get test pressings... He always showed up there for Norman Jay's (Jules friend and idol back in the Family Function -Shake n Fingerpop rare groove days late 80s) Good Times Bus System. As far as Drum N Bass goes, saw Jules do a set @ Bukem's Logical Progression in 97 @ Turnmills and he rocked it. Miss those days ... glad to be clubbing in the 90s... looking back now it was SO much more diverse and you took it all for granted living in London as everything was on your doorstep! I went to many nights in all styles ... I actually started out with breakbeat jungle and hardcore in 92/93 and stalked Randall ... but the Jungle takeover in 94 was too much MCing and rewinds ... so I moved to house. Always liked Jules Kiss show so went around to most of his London gigs 94 -97 He was way more Housey then... Frisky @ Ministry was wkd. Everyone played there. Jules, John kelly, Seb Fontaine, Oakenfold, Tony De Vit, Healey, Tong...
  14. Cox Set: Dj dan - needle dubbage Dave Angel - Body punch Funk rubadub - gobounce small phat one - music for pushchairs Cox - Dr Funk (Rhythm Masters mix) White Label starfighter - apache Le Vou De Monde - tribal tunes beltram - energy flash (Marrs mix) studio 54 - I like the Sounds (unabomber rmx) Rhythm Masters - psycho Jaxx - Jump n Shout Leftfield - phat planet White Label
  15. My fave mix of JJ. He played many of these tunes @ Ministry and Turnmills during summer 97. Dj Disco with the Cheech and Chong sample! Opened the set in July with Love Commandments... I remember Jaydee: Plastic Dreams- Morales mix, Daf: battered... Blackout: Gotta have hope... De Boss, on the run... GOD: Inside your Mind (off Classics and a big tune in 95) Cafe Del Mar, Da Hool, Tyrome... TONS!!!! I sold pills in the Ministry when I was off my face ... really don't know how I got away with that as so many people got caught in there lol... John Kelly was always with Jules on those gigs... wicked DJ, really tight... He came on after Oakenfold in Oct 98 and wiped the floor with him doing a wkd set of trance. ID's Dj Dero: The horn (el tren) Mike Ruffcut Loyd: X amount of Wickedness
  16. Pretty much the big tunes of 98 before they really blew up... Saw him @ Frisky @ Ministry every month in 98... after march I got really f***ed off as they kept putting him in the bar with the crud system and posers instead of the main room (box) with the serious rig. He opened his set in nov 97 with Capricorn and the place went beserk. That was a long set and John kelly played 3 hours... was a Golden tour I think.
  17. Thanks for this... Jules is only Mixing til end of Disco Citizens: Footprint... then its Farley Jackmaster Funk. I remember being pissed off when I bought the Double Tape off a Bootlegger in Camden in mid 97... it only had Jules on 1 side of the tape. I got loads of Jules Mixes off that guy and left a box of tapes at my old flat and forgot about it... the landlord threw them out!!!!! Some Wicked ones from Peach and Divine, when Jules was still with Kiss doing all sorts of places in London: Peach and Clockwork Orange ... lots of speed garage stuff in 97 as well... He dropped a Speed Garage mix of Johnny Jungle that I've never found anywhere. And Luca: New York Style Dub was BIIIG groove... The Dance Nation Launch party in March 97 had so many people playing. Jules, Tong, Fontaine, Block, De Vit (RIP) ... i stalked Jules that summer!!! saw the trumpet come out a few times... my 20th Birthday we saw him @ Gallery, Turnmills. The following friday we saw him @ the same place doing a Drum and Bass set for Bukem @ Logical progression lol. Similar to how he ended his 97 Emix... did a LOT of raving from 93-2004... sold my deks in 2006 and have been doing parties and Jamm in Brixton using Ableton and Traktor... 1. Ferr - Stardust 2. Vincent De Moor - Flowtation Etc Love that Dex and Jonesey track thats like BBE... had a lot of fun seeing Jules and Kelly @ The Cross and Frisky @ Ministry, Malibu Stacey w Seb Fontaine and Luke Neville... Gallery w Tall Paul and Sister Bliss... 93-95 was wkd house and proggy... 96-98 was a good mix of house and Trance... I got bored after that and went into Nu Skool breaks Plump Dj's then back to Jungle which is where I started in 92 with Breakbeat Hardcore. Now I just go and see Randall all the time @ AWOL lol... K
  18. HA!!! Remeber taping this!!! So glad to have found it again!!! Never could source Ripping it up or that Jonesey mix of Echo Drop!!! BAAAD!
  19. So so set... He played a lot of these at his NYE Kiss gig at Camden Palace but in a better order. Alabama Blues and Nuyorican Soul!!!!
  20. Yes! Classic mix... Showcasing all the big tunes of the day. I saw Jules at bagleys, SW1 club, Rocket, The Cross and Peach at Camden. He played all these tunes and Yeke Yeke a lot! John Kelly did a few b2b sets with him, as they are pretty much the same in style, as was Graham Gold. Always loved getting ready to go out while having his Kiss Saturday show on full blast! Access was a genre defining track, as was Xcabs Neuro... signalled the arrival of hard house and faster BPMs...
