  1. All very true. I think we can all relate to this! Good to hear you're still enjoying the forums and audio. I have found life really does take over (wife, kids etc) so there's less and less time to maintain this website, but I'll continue to renew the domain and the forum software to keep it "alive". It was made before the days of Soundcloud etc which would have been a lot easier to host the audio but there you go. I do miss the old days of specialist radio, and "simpler" times before the explosion of the internet and the fragmentation of dance music into a million genres. I do still possess an array of Minidiscs to convert into mp3 but with over 300 of the damn things and a very niche way of extracting the audio properly, its a slow process. Amongst the dross and fragments, inevitably there'll be little gems of mixes in there that I'll rediscover and they will be uploaded in due course. For example, I found one half of Jules's end of year round up from 2000, in pristine quality. I know I definitely have the other half on an minidisc - somewhere - once I find it, I'll splice them together and it will be uploaded Anyway, nice this little archive is still bringing back memories. Shout out to everyone who still browses this site, including Spin Doc! Where has the time gone?
  2. Click the envelope at the top-right of the screen and select "Go to Inbox" - or here: http://www.judgejulesarchive.co.uk/archives/board/index.php?/messenger/ There's a bug in the messenger where you'll get a "Not Acceptable" error if you click on a message from the dropdown - it's being looked into!
  3. Jonathan1990 I’ll send you a PM on here as I’ve still got my Sony MDS JB980 deck - so I can happily extract the audio from that minidisc if you wish.

    '90s Dance Mags

I'll find this for you - our Gallery needs a revamp and if you uploaded it we definitely have it. I'll let you know
  5. Ok so 20 years has elapsed and again perhaps the licence is up and they have their hands on the original sound recordings again.... The Lange remix 1998 version is presumably the only Lange remix (I uploaded the acetate entry you see on discogs, with the Thrillseekers' Synasthaesia on the flipside) which I then sold, but I wonder why it's OK to release it now when presumably it was a copyright issue in 1998?
  6. Great news, so something has happened here in the opaque world (well I've always seen it that way) of licensing and publishers... perhaps the license is up and so they have been free again to distribute their sound recordings as they want.

    New Shows?

    Fantastic work buddy, thank you!
  8. Don't all choke on your cornflakes, but Jules is a contestant on celebrity masterchef tonight. BBC1 Mondays @ 9:00pm
  9. @Simcut do you have the missing segments of this particular broadcast? Hoping it’s on one of those tapes you’ve found... did you say you have around 10 more shows still to digitise from 1999?
  10. Another belter - get downloading if you missed it
  11. I love this mix, a different direction from Jules here and a nice short mix to download on the move
  12. Jacey B has it right there of course
  13. And you have hit the nail on the head there sir. Jules was the "gateway DJ" for millions of people, opening their ears to the scene which then spurred us into discovering the tiny little subgenres that dance music has now fragmented into. As a DJ in his day, the magnifying glass was on him like no other in the UK, so the "consistency" argument is one brought up all the time. I've lost count the number of times I hear people say to me "I saw him perform a flawless set, so gathered my mates to see his next gig only to witness an inexplicably shocking set" leaving everyone bewildered and, well, pretty pissed off. Maybe every DJ has this, depending on the venue, their attitude, and what's in their box? But I like to think the Archive here proves those really good radio shows and live sets which were recorded outweigh all the shockers, so long may we relive them
  14. Could be a coding error in which case we need to find another source from the web, as I don't have the original rip other than what is uploaded here. I will look into this - thanks

  16. We all remember the days of taping shows, just something loads of us did, completely independently. Also, as soon as Westwood's "bombs" went off every Friday night at 11:00pm I'm sure someone up there really must have heard a million dance fans press "stop" on their cassette players Welcome to the site!

    New Shows?

We think we have exhausted every source out there, both in terms of audio and tracklistings, so unless we get contacted that someone has a stash of cassettes somewhere they want us to digitize and upload on here, or indeed they upload something new themselves, what we have in the archives is pretty much it. I do know I have the "end of year" Saturday show from 2000 somewhere split across 2 minidiscs which I would love to find. Once I do, you can be sure it will be uploaded straight away
  18. Worth a chat with a member on here called Louk. I know he recorded similar local radio shows and you never know, you could stumble across a goldmine of tapes
  19. One for the commute tomorrow! Thanks Aza
  20. I completely agree with this. For me Jules was the ultimate "gateway" DJ - very flawed, very inconsistent, but capable of truly sensational sets and unique passages of atmosphere. He opened a generation of people up to a variety of electronic music.... you only need to look at everybody on these forums all with their preferred niches and subgenres that they've discovered. But the common origin was Jules.
  21. Interesting read here, especially the bit about the (often forgotten but incredible) disco scene in the 1970s which was what really drove Technics to improve their SL-1100s http://mixmag.net/feature/the-evolution-of-the-turntable
  22. Wonderful stuff Aza, hope all is well and I'll be downloading this for the morning commute to work tomorrow
  23. Happy New Year folks! Thought some people might find this interesting 00:00:00 ▶ Intro 0:02:24 ▶ Chapter One - Shouldn’t you stop being a waiter? Isn’t there anything else you’d like to do? 00:04:52 ▶ Chapter Two - R&S is doing great, but why don’t you start a label? 00:09:27 ▶ Chapter Three - We just wanted to make good music, release it, and party! 00:16:16 ▶ Chapter Four - You could just put a DJ name on a T-shirt and everybody wanted one 00:23:08 ▶ Chapter Five - There is the bag, figure it out 00:24:59 ▶ Chapter Six - When you went out or you played a Bonzai track, you just knew the roof would come down 00:30:06 ▶ Chapter Seven - We said, M.I.K.E., this is the A-side 00:40:48 ▶ Chapter Eight - And then all of a sudden, you lost everything 00:46:08 ▶ Chapter Nine - Let the Bonzai flag fly again
  24. Excellent mix! Would love a tracklisting... there's a few in there that have escaped even my mind! -Spanish guitar track at 50 mins?
