  1. Dear Dlclh, JasonB,

    you both are right.

Before Pete Tong and Judge Jules took the control over the airwaves through to 1999 from Leeds Townhall, BBC Radio 1  NYE warm-up was from Glasgow,

There wa PA with Ruff Driverz and final 29 mins of 1998 DJ Colin Tevendale was gigging in front of 25 thousand people and with Dave Pearce. Pretty bonkers!

    I´ve got the audio!

  2. Having listented some older Essential Selections with Pete Tong, discovered the missing track n. 17. is:

The Tabernacle – I Know The Lord [Devils Dub or Lords House Mix] (Good Groove Records/Club Tools)

Pete Tong played different mix than the once Julse dropped here, and because, there I have not found any audio for this I cannot check whether is it Devils Dub or Lord House Mix

Hopefully this helps? I've been digitizing my old tape collection, I know it's only 25 minutes long but hopefully it adds some more to the missing audio.

Judge Jules, Essential Selection Studio Session (25 mins)

I agree with CM5, this excerpt looks (sounds) like Clubber's guide to 99 official CD release, the pace of the Clubber's guide and the excerpt is almost identical. The question is whether Judge had a kind of "white CD" with a pre-released clubber´s guide to test the audience reactions or so, or he had mixed the tracks in such an order that were later used the the official Clubber´s Guide compilation.

Check the discogs Clubber´s Guide to 99 compilation and the TL of this exerpt below.

I also little doubt this excerpt was on 19th Feb 1999 during Julesy Essential Selection cover for Pete Tong or later during his regular slot that day. He would probably not play the same tracks more than once in a single show. Southside Spinners, ATB are featured in the TL for this show and tracks before and after in TL are different from the exerpt below.

001 Southside Spinners - Luvstruck (Original Mix) used in the Clubber´s Guide to 99 comp. but not mixed into ATB below

Following tracks are used in chronologically same order as Clubber´s Guide to 99 CD though

    002 ATB – 9pm (Till I Come)

003 Yves Deruyter - To The Rhythm (Signum Remix)

    004 Aptness - The Answer

005 Hands Burn – Good Shot (Original Mix)

    006 Roadblock –   The Rules

007 Invisible Man –  Give A Little Love

008 Boccaccio Life –  The Secret Wish

Thanks a million! What a TL´s correction. UR the master!

  6. Dear all members, valued community friends,

big thanks all of you for keeping such a great site running. From my point of view, there are only a few other renowned "godfather" DJs from the golden era of rave clubbing days of the 90s who have not only the webpage but the awesome community gathered around. And, moreover, I believe the JudgeJulesArchive is the only platform that so massively focuses on one DJ star only, no matter whether we, community members, still follow Judge these days. Correct me, if I am wrong, I cannot think of any other single DJ with such a site, though?

I am still totally impressed how many audio files, TLs, comments and other interesting facts have been piled up here. The work, the effort from you is hardly believable. And you must be a real fan of the dance music to understand what has been created here.

I still have some parts of Judge´s BBC radio shows from 1998 and on, ready to be uploaded. I do apologize I have not done it yet. Life is just twisting.

With this my comment I would also humbly like to ask you, whether you are interested  in other UK radio (DJs) broadcast from the 90s to be exposed here. Some, for example, KISS 100 FM and BBC R1 sections of shows from DJs like Graham Gold, Pete Wardman, Pete Tong and others I have had on my Soundcloud profile which is no longer active. Some other sounds on cassette/video tapes still waiting to be digitized.

I wish the JudgeJulesArchive would live on.

    Burien,

thank you for this re-post from the Soundcloud. Amazing stuff from 1996! I do love Judge Jules on his trumphet in The Difference and Gusto in the first part. I think the remix of Funny Walker is not Tweeky And Funky Remix. It sounds different. It is probably the original IMHO.

I am wondering if maybe the Kiss FM Club Chart point to the UK Dance Singles Chart...  If it is, Offshore was no.1 December 21st 1996.

As I am not a UK native, I don't know the charts so well, so perhaps someone else can help here?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_UK_Dance_Singles_Chart_number_ones_of_1996

    https://www.officialcharts.com/artist/31934/chicane/

Fuzzy, that is a great idea, it however, does not really help to specify the exact date of the Kiss show.

Kiss FM Club Chart was mainly supported by the DJs and their "picks" of favourite tunes they dropped in their shows as well as during parties. Simply, Club Chart anticipated (was in advance) the official UK Chart show. Moreover, I am sure I recorded this audio between 9 - 15th November. I still have London´s underground travel cards. In December, I was back in Prague. Unfortunately I was not able to listen / record Judge on KissFM in December 96, fortunately I was back in the Czech rep. with my girlfriend :-)

As Tomas has mentioned, track 16 might be the A side of this release: https://www.discogs.com/Hair-Prince-Sunshine-Test/release/550029

As Discogs isn't listing bootlegs releases anymore on marketsplace, i guess the place to find it these days is eBay :)

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/12-HAIR-PRINCE-Sunshine-Test-WR007-NOT-ON-LABEL-UNITED-KINGDOM-Vinyl-/274393883677

Anyone feel like buying it to verify? ;-)

Checking the TL section on JJA, there are many bootlegs and / or white label(s) Judge Jules used to play during his shows, testing the crowd (listener´s) reaction, I guess. In this particular show I am also desperately seeking for Unknown - 'Preachers Wife - probably another bootleg remix of something that might have been connected with The Preacher´s Wife film, starring Whitney Houston in 1996.

  11. Regarding the Jules´TLs (Mixmag and other sources) I discussed with JasonB and Fuzzy some errors the other day. Namely, TL from Friday Jan 16th 1998. Mixmag printed as for TL from Dec 19th which was wrong. I have bits and pieces from both shows. I think the TL for Jan 16th 98 does not exist anywhere. If you check, there is no record in tracklist section for the Jan 16th Friday session.

  15. Dear Spin Doctor,

thank you for your words.  No ungratefulness at all. Unfortunately, I reckon, original shows do not exit in the entire lenght anymore. I doubt even BBC has got them. Myself, I never had intention to record the whole regular radio shows, I was just seeking for hot tunes that fitted my vibe. If there was someting I was not into, I pressed stop on my cassette recorder back in the day.  In the mid and late 90´s I wouldn´t have imagined I would be desperately looking for my old cassete and video tapes with radio broadcasts on them and would spend enormous portions of time on the internet to track down anything to go with the dance music history in the nineties.

As Judge Jules had left KISS 100 and arrived on BBC R1, frankly, it was not anything "so" special for me at that time. I was in my twenties, and now I know, too young to see the significance of that moment.

I am so so happy JJA community exists and, for instance, moderators have unveiled here and let us to rewind the first ever Judge Jules BBC R1 show in October 1997, simultaneously I do regret I will probably never be able to listen Julesy´s last ever regular show on KISS 100. It must have been emotional!

I still have some more bits and pieces of Judge´s BBC radio shows from the 90´s to be converted into mp3, hopefully I digitize them soon and post them.

Thank you Wilfilson you for mentioning that the commentary over Ronaldo´s revenge is one of Michael Owens goal against Argentina. I was wondering what it had been.

Jason, any idea, if Tongy just took this excerpt and mixed it into Ronaldo´s revenge or it might have been a kind of bootleg he played on New Year´s Eve xtravaganza?

  18. Bedroom Bedlam - Marcus (James) from Nothingham

    23. Freefall - 'Shrug' [stress Records]

    24. Human Movement - 'Traveller's Theme' [Whoop! Records]

Both nice choices from Marcus! Would have been interesting to hear the rest of that mix.

    Spin Doc,

you are right! Nice and proggy "Renaissance" tunes. I wish I knew if Marcus is really that Marcus James later known for his residency in Renaissance Club.

Moreover, I would be very interested in other Bedroom Bedlam winning as well as other mixes that DJs sent to BBC studios.

A big respect to Sbradyman - I humbly used a couple of his and my bits and pieces to put together and restore this as most complex as possible recorded soundtrack of the history.
