  1. Exploring amazing memories of Jules shows and music from 2004 to 2007 and exploring the stuff I missed before then

  2. These were extra special shows for me the couple of times Jules covered for Tong in 2008 as Jules had finished on Sat night the year before and so it was a rare treat to hear his house selections again, even if they were a mashup of his selections and the tunes Pete Tong was playing at the time. Two awesome tracks at least on this show brining back magical memories. PNAU - 'Embrace' [sam Le More] a very excellent under rated tune also, I think Fred Falke played that on his awesome essential mix that year. The first half an hour of that set was one of the most memorable a beautiful series of tunes I've ever heard in essential mix history. The other tune is just magical - Hidden Agenda - Lost Feeling. I haven't heard this in 10 years. Always great to hear long forgotten more obscure old tunes rather than the same old "classics" we've all heard 1,000 times. It takes the shine of for me a bit the more overplayed they are.
  3. Feeling nostalgic about all the great days gone by, so though I would post a list of every time I have ever seen Jules play a live set since the very first over 10 years ago now aged 19, and invite others to do the same. Maybe many of us will find we were at the same gigs? I have quite a substantial log full of details and some of the momorable & crazy incidents that happend along the way so thought I would share it! I have seen him play 33 times to date, exactly the same number of times as he has been on the essential mix according to Pete Tong! Although most of the time I saw him was back in the day when I was rather obsessed lol. Well done to Tim and any others involved in still keeping this site going after all these years btw! Every Time ever seen Judge Jules play a set... 2004 - 11 Times 2005 - 9 Times 2006 - 6 Times 2007 - Twice 2008 - Twice 2009 - Once 2011 - Once 2012 - Once 1.) Sun 28th May 2006 - Time Nightclub, Derby - Was meant to be playing house set, but he played trance! - Pointed out his mistake and he had a whoops look on his face. He signed to say it would sound terrible mixing back and I signed back to suggest he should slow it down gradually - He didn't though lol 24.) September 2007 - Gatecrasher @ Magna, Rotheram - Right at the front of a 5 to 10,000 crowd and in his photograph of the event and on facebook - Last ever time saw him while his show was on Saturday Nights and knew the end of an era was Nigh! 29.) August 2008 @ Creamfields - With Laura. The rest of the crew were watching someone else though! - Good Set and Tidy Boys came on straight after who weren't as bad as i was expecting! 30.) September 2008 @ Eden, San Antonio, Ibiza - Only time ever saw him Dj in Ibiza up to 33rd set. Technically you could argue it counts as 2 as he did main room set, then back room house set. Chatted at the end with my face covered in blue paint by Yorkie and his gang - Must have been f***ed cos was dragged out by bouncer at the end while trying to talk to jules for taking too long to leave and being last one there! lol - Had already spoken to him for a good minute or so 1st though! lol - Didn't want to leave it at that so spoke to him outside Eden after talking about my trubute tune, how fonzerelli was on his flight and how Fonzerelli was doing a remix of the tribute tune i did for his show. 31.) August 2009 @ Creamfields - Suprise "mystery DJ" set in the afternoon as he wasn't officially on the bill - He played stuff from house to drum and bass! - Video of it somewhere with Me, Laura, John, Miller, Lias, and maybe housey too - 1st time ever saw him together with many of them i.e Miller - Last time ever saw him in the noughties and for over 2 years. 32.) November 2011 @ Sessions, Vivaz, SCARBOROUGH! - After all the years and sets of his i saw and travelled to across the country and beyond, he finally came to me for a change! Finally came to Scarborough for the 1st time since I really knew of him well and for the 1st time in 12 years! - Only 4 to 7 years too late though for me in terms of when I would have gone the most crazy for it heh. 33.) April 2012 @ The Spa Complex/Theatre, Scarborough - Felt like a farewell set, one last salute to a by gone era as he had just left Radio 1 as well.
  4. I have the recording of that show somewhere aswell lol. I remember him saying how it had come through as an mp3 that very morning and had to go "straight into record of the week mode" lol. Incidently about the new tracklistings design, i think it's an absolute disgrace. Under the new design it appears that only the most recent weeks tracklistings are now available and if u try and view previous weeks (which is combined now with the option to listen again), it just says "this program is no longer available" AND THERES NO MORE LISTINGS!!! :@. I find this absolutely mind boggling how the designers can be so ignorant and stupid, and in their puny mouse brains they probably think "Well if it's not available anymore, why would anyone want tracklistings?" JESUS! The big problem here is that they appear to have streamlined this new design accross all bbc radio pages, without seeming to show any concern or tollerance for individuality within shows. The producers of individual shows should be able to decide for themselves what is appropriate for a website for a particular show, not corporate morons who likely have no concept or understanding of what dance music is about or what it means. I regularly go back through the tracklistings from years back as i have many many shows over the years and they are of sentimental value aswell. Also I require past recent weeks tracklistings as i have them on sky+ or if not will listen somewhere where i can find them online. For example, I currently have a backlog of a few weeks of jules, tong etc shows which, as a dj, i need to listen back to as i havent been working recently and have been lapsing. Thankfully the archive is still available through the old links but only up until October when everything was changed. So from that date onwards to whatever the current week is, there will seemingly always be a gap. And of course great sites like this are the saviour and will hopefully insure the information is never lost, but it's the principle of it, and the whole flawed mentality and narrow mindedness of those in power with regards to the hugely negative consequences of their actions that they probably didn't even have the intelligence to realise or consider. I'm getting a bit philosophical here, and admittedly maybe veering off the topic of the thread slightly, but my fury over this led to me thinking more deeply and generally about the whole direction of society as this is just indicative of what increasingly is happening elsewhere in the world in terms of other scenarios/laws which violate civil liberties etc, all the time. It inspired me to create a quote which i think is quite appropriate... "A word full of people with different views, ways of life, and freedoms, will never be comfortably compatible with a world/society/authority which seeks to bring to together, control, generalise, and mainstreamise the tools, facilities, and institutions of that reality supposedly for the purposes of improvement but by hindering and violating what others hold dear in the process" Being a minority or a cult as society would likely class us for largely not being interested in the "mainstream", we will always be at odds with this "cattle led" mentality. As it is the cattle/public which are ultimately responsible for this as they simply accept things and dont stand of for change or to right wrongs. Often as they are not intelligent enough to realise how something is a problem for those who are superior to them. But by nature this makes us more intellgent than the "cattle" and therefore we can nearly always find a way round every restrictive change, rule, law which the cattle will not. So it's a fight, and i suppose we must look on the bright side of everything and realise that if the public/herd were as clever as us, then it would be much harder for us to get ahead in the world, and become far greater achivers than the majority of them .
  5. Yes it is!!! Excellent, cheers! A tune like that should never go out of fashion. Thats the kind of record that should be played every week! Thanks again
  6. It's not that track unfortunately :-(. Thanks anyway though. Hopefully someone else might still know. It does sound a bit like the style Haliwell would play though actually. And i just used cubase with the a1 synthesizer to make the re-interpretation. Along with just ripping the beat from a hoxton whores remix lol.
  7. Hey guys, I have this incredible electro house record going round in my head from 2 or 3 years back, but i have no idea what it is! The style of it was a bit of a cross between that of the Hoxton Whores and Ben Macklin, and it sounded like a bit of an underground track so not sure if it was ever fully released. I think jules used to play it though, and I'm pretty sure Dormouse played it on a radio show he did a couple of years back aswell. I was listening back to the show a few weeks ago actually which is when it got into my head, but can't seem to find the file anywhere now . I tried shazaming the record at the time but it came back saying it was Another Chance - Sound of Eden, but that was clearly a mistake because it wasn't cos it had no vocals, and i'm pretty sure i've heard all the remixes of that track anyway. So, in the hope of jogging someone's memory, i have created my own short re-interpretation of the record. Link here... http://www.secondperspective.co.uk/Super%2...erpretation.mp3 I just have to have this tune cos it's so infectious! I'm even addicted to my own interpretation now which is nowhere near as good as the real thing of course! lol. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!!!
  8. Hey guys thanks for the replies! I would have replied sooner, but didn't receive any reply notifications as my email address was out of date! Part of me wishes i hadn't said it was a tribute to jules's sat show, then i might not have got so many laughs! lol. LOL about the gay come on one though! lol Note I said it was a triubute to his show, not a tribute to him! lol. I didn't set out with the intention of creating a jules tribute record, but it kind of evolved into that. I was happy to dedicate the end result to his saturday show though as it seemed very appropriate. Also, it's ironic that someone said i was right about it sounding like Duran Duran, because i was getting confused when i said that. I actually meant The Human League and Depech Mode! But then again a lot of bands like that were using that style of vocal in the 80's weren't they? As for the record it's self anyway, thanks for the feedback once again. Although i was looking for a little advice in the eqing department if anyone could help me with that? I'm just doing some eq work on the record atm as jules reckoned the vocal needed some eq attention so i hightened the 500hz+ range and pretty much muted anything below 250. The vocal then sounded a lot more crisp and clear and less "muffled". Then on top of that I then hightened the upper end and lower ends of the entire record as a whole, but someone else i sent it to reckons it's too top heavy now. Basically i'm just tryint to create that crisp "dance" sound. i.e most modern sound cards & cd players etc will let you adjust the eq levels to certain presets. The "dance" one always seems to reduce the midi and highten the bass and treble, and it ussually sounds better. So I figured why not make it sound like that by default, when the eq's of the cd player or whatever, are equal? Hence why i set out to do that. But then i figured what about people who always have the eq set to 'dance' by default? It's gonna sound all tinny and hollow to them! So i'm a little confused now. Surely a record that sounded crisp and basey by default would be preferable. Then it would sound better in a club for example without the dj having to adjust the levels manually? Or perhaps it's just not a good idea to mess with conventions like that even if the logic is sound?! lol The link to the "crispier" version below anyway, so feedback and advice appreciated. Cheers! http://www.secondperspective.co.uk/Second%...%20Mix)-128.mp3
  9. I've produced this record as a tribute to jules saturday night show which ends of course this saturday and also really as an appreciation of all the great house and progressive music he's played on saturday nights over the years. I've emailed him aswell to ask whether he'll be continuing with house/progressive tunes in his new show and am now awaiting a response. In producing the record I have drawn on influences from some the greatest house and progressive producers whose material has been played by jules over the past few years. The major influences for me in making this track are Nu Electric - No Matter What (Jupiter Ace Mix), CRW - I Feel Love, Jupiter Ace 1,000 Years, Eric Prydz - In and Out (Eric Prydz Remix), and the phenomenal One Hit Wonders - Grace Of God. So it's meant to be a kind of mixed bag of all those influences really to reflect the general style of the greatest music (housewise) that jules has played over the years, aswell as my own influences of course. Theres also a hint of a hoxton whores style electro influence aswell in the baseline. The vocals, which i have also permormed myself sound a bit like something out of the 80's and I think theres a bit of Duran Duran influence there aswell. Link to 128 mp3 version below and feedback is greatly appreciated!.... http://www.secondperspective.co.uk/Second%...%20Mix)-128.mp3
  10. Loving these 2 at the moment.... Leonid Rudenko – ‘Real Life’ [Chris Hoff] (White Life) Aaron McClelland – ‘Oklahoma’ (UMM) Good old McClelland/Fonzerelli just keeps on churning out the tunage. I must have about 12 of his records now even though I only 1st heard about him around Spring 2006 when jules seemed to play another new record of his every single week! After careful consideration, i genuinely would rank him as the best house producer and remixer of 2006 by a long way! Does anyone know much about him or if he dj's at all? Or even if he has a website for that matter?! I've found it extremely difficult to find out anything about him on the net.
  11. Unbelievebly, not only did jules play this for a 2nd week in a row, but even Pete Tong has just played it now! Looks like their could be a chance that my mysterious little unknown record could be set to become a hit!
  12. Thanks for the offer mate. I might take you up on that, but i just wanna get my mix as good as i can 1st. Thanks for the feedback. The kick and percussion and pretty much everything infact were all produced using a combination of the basic synths provided in fruity loops. I'm trying to figure out how to use and install vst plugins so i can have better quality sounding elements. I gather fruity or cubase are pretty useless for producing without decent vst plugins? Am I right in assuming that? Which vst plugins would you reccommend i use to try and get the record sounding as great as possible and to get a much better sounding kick? You said it sounded quite simple, do you mean just the percussion or other elements of the track aswell? Any info that any of you could give would be great guys, cheers!
  13. Thanks. I look forward to hearing ur thoughts . I've actually been working on a funky house tune aswell recently, so i'll start a thread about that aswell later.
  14. Hey guys, i've beefed up the beat on this now, so ur thoughts would be great. Handed a copy to jules on saturday, but any feedback is still appreciated, cheers! Heaven's Vibe
  15. HEY! SUCCESS! 8 Months on to the day since my last post on this, and i've finally discovered what the track is!! I believe Jules actually played it on his show this week after 2 years! However it sounds different (better in parts) and has a different name and is under a different alias. In any case, i've been able to find out what the lyrics actually were, "I'm already loving you again", and discovered that the original title was, "Ben Delay and Sven Last - 'Again'". The new version jules played this week was entitled "Dynamite - 'Loving You'. Samples below of both versions anyhow! 2004 2006 I actually poured me heart out about this on another website, UKMIX.ORG, which actually has a thread purely dedicated to jules weekly tracklistings, (link at the bottom). I know someone on here posted on there a while ago about this site, I think it was in that very thread aswell actually not sure if it was you Tim or someone else? Hope ur well anywho. p.s I've modified that track I posted last year and actually handed a copy to jules on saturday. I'll post a sample up in the relevant topic asap. Anyway, I know you didn't get it, but thanks for having a go with this record anyway guys! UKMIX THREAD
  16. Really loved the, Stu Allan - 'A Feeling' record! (played straight after the funky tried and tested record) However, I don't think it's the original as i believe thats a happy hardcore tune which i don't think much to i'm afraid! (www.bangingtunes.com/vinyl/view/nukafeeling/ ) Obviously it is some kind of funky remix other than the one's listed on that page. I don't suppose anyone knows who it's remixed by? Also it's good to hear Jules play Harry Diamond's, (Sunset Strippers front man), record again entitled "runaway". A few months since he's played that. I'm still trying to find out what the situation is with that aswell!
  17. All the instrumentation I created in fruity loops. I then transferred the samples to cubase sx, added reverb to some of the elements, and put it all together in a timeline on cubase sx. If u do it all in fruity loops it's a bit different. There's no time line as such, so u just create loops, and then use the sequencer to structure it all. Most big producers use either Cubase or Logic.
  18. Hey Guys, Just thought I'd let you know about a couple of brilliant funky house tunes around at the moment. Neither of these have been played by Jules yet I'm afraid, although I'd say they're both in his style (well certainly the Angels of Love record). The first is the Thin White Duke remix of Royksopp with "What Else Is There". It seems every man and his dog has been playing this - apart from Jules! . It has also been extremely difficult to get hold of but for those who haven't heard it, you can hear a sample by downloading this file. You may need itunes 4 this to work tho. www.maties.co.uk/whatelseisthere-thinwhitedukemix.m3u As for the 2nd one, this is entitled "Seamus Haji - Angels of Love". It's an absolutely glorious uplifting record which is currently available on www.xpressbeats.com. Infact it is the most popular record on there at the moment! I would class it as a cross between One Hit Wonder - Grace Of God (a big jules fave), and the Freeloaders - So Much Love To Give. It has the same repetativeness as the freeloaders, but has vocals and instrumentation similar enough to One Hit Wonders, to keep it just clear of "cheesy" territory IMHO. So i'd say it's VERY much Jules style, which is why i'm suprised he hasn't played it yet. Then again, it has only just appeared on the site this week, and i've never heard it played by any other Dj's yet. So perhaps Jules only 1st heard it this week, and is waiting for Sat to give it it's inaugural airing?! I think we should all email him about it if he doesn't anyway! lol
  19. Yeah, sorry about that guys. I think you may have had trouble Chrissie because the links are case sensetive! Don't ask me why though! lol :? I've updated both the links now, along with the one about my trance record. It's all lower case now with no spaces. Would really appreciate it if anyone could shed some light on the track. I've tried all sorts to find out what it's called! . new links are... www.maties.co.uk/ivealreadyfoundyou.mp3 www.maties.co.uk/imalreadylovingyoutoomuch.mp3
  20. Hey Tim, Thanks for your feedback. The problem i've had is that whenever I increase the volume of any of the elements on top of what they are now, the whole thing starts to become to distorted. I think it might be becuase I put reverb on too many elements, but i'll try and figure it out anywhoo. p.s Sorry about the dodgy links. For some strange reason it seems that they are case sensetive. I've updated the file name though so for anyone else wishing to download the new link is below. There's no spaces in this one, so it should hold together as a clickable link. I'd make it so that it just said click here if I could, but I'm not sure how to! www.maties.co.uk/lexophonic-heavensvibe.mp3 Thanks again for listening!
  21. Yeah, I've had it for quite a while too, but just thought i'd let ppl know on here incase they weren't aware.
  22. Hey Guys, Just wondering what your opinions are on a new Trance record that i've been working on for the last few months. It's Entitled "Heaven's Vibe". It can be downloaded via the link below. Feedback would be much appreciated! www.maties.co.uk/lexophonic-heavensvibe.mp3
  23. I think he just said he wasn't sure if it would ever be released actually. But it appears it now has been! The guy who remixed it is actually called Luke Spencer. Link to his site below.... http://www.spencercollective.co.uk/news.htm Also, the record is now available to buy here! .... http://www.juno.co.uk/ppps/products/194620...er%20collective
  24. Hey there Guys, There's a tune that I have been trying to find out the name of for quite some time now. I think it was played by judge jules during the 1st half of 2004, but i don't have a sample of it. Infact i'm not even sure of the words! All I know is that the words of the main chorus go something along the lines of one of the following...... "I've already found you my dear" OR "I'm already loving you too much" Again i'm not sure if either of those are entirely accurate, but i'm pretty sure it starts with either "I've already" or "I'm already". Also, I think it might have been a funky house tune, and has quite a soft sound to it. Now, I know thats not much to go on, so I have created my own musical interpretation of it which can be downloaded via the link below! Consider it the nearest thing to me literally humming and singing the tune! lol. I didn't bother including a beat in my interpretation, but obviously there is one in the real thing! (and yes it is me singing! lol ). It is a male vocalist in the real record aswell. www.maties.co.uk/ivealreadyfoundyou.mp3 The download size is just under 3mb, but you can download another 30 second version without any vocals which is just half a meg below... www.maties.co.uk/imalreadylovingyoutoomuch.mp3
  25. Thankyou for the warm welcome back! .
