  1. Thanks for all the replies. I'll give Audacity a go and see how I get on.
  2. A relative of mine is getting married next year and wants to include a 60min slot of their own music while the band takes a break. They have all the tracks as MP3 (purchased from iTunes) but they need editing to remove intros and outros, and then mxing together. This doesn't need to be beat-matched, just more the sort you would expect to hear at your local townie club. Can anyone recommend any software that will allow me to do this - that's preferably free! I've been look around and found http://audacity.sourceforge.net/about/features Will this do what I'm after - it seems to look the business? Any advice greatly appreciated
  3. That drop down list would have to be mahoosive though because the poll is open to, literally, everyone . Yep, massive indeed, but not impossible. It would also give them the opportunity to exclude producers that don't DJ. The big names could get their management company to submit their entry. The smaller local names should only be included with a short biog of where they play and this should weed out the fake entries. Whether these get checked up on should depend upon the level of voting and how much credibility they want to give the poll.
  4. My idea of a drop-down box would solve that issue too. As for whether people vote for producing or DJing abilities is going to be harder to solve. In honour of Sir Jimmy Saville, he gets my vote next year, well actually he won't because I'm not on Facebook.
  5. I have no idea how the vote works now as I firmly have my slippers on, but surely any votes for non-DJs should have been discarded? Or ask DJs that want to be in the running, to pre-register and then some drop-down box system could operate. Something has to be done to restore credibility.
  6. Hi Chrissie, how was your trip? I got an email the other day saying that Inside Out is closing at the end of April
  7. Saw something in the press recently about it - good ad. Shame there's hardly any record shops about these days
  8. As I've said, my memory of the day isn't good, but I think it was early evening, probably around 7-7.30? Anyone got any better memories? EDIT - At the start of the broadcast, Scott Mills says "its almost 8 o'clock". I wasn't too far off  On the day it was hard to hear the music because of the crowd, and this recording is much the same!
  9. Brilliant and thanks for whoever came up with the goods for the second set and reassuring me that I do have some recollection of the day. TL looks good - I'm grabbing it now.

    hi

Nabbing both of these now. I haven't downloaded a file in ages off here and have just come across the T&Cs you now have to agree to...'Pre-1986' thread..????
  11. Nice thread, Quadders
  12. Chrissie, yes I remember hearing about your baggage event after your last trip! I think the train sounds a better bet for this time  I live only a few miles away from Motherwell and use the station there for trips down south. I hope The Arches is fully open for your trip. They can change the configuration depending on ticket sales and the best atmosphere is when the place is totally open and rammed to the gunnels! My last trip there was, hmmm, let me think! Errr...deffo sometime last year, but can't remember when. It must have been about springtime I think as when we finally got home it was just starting to get light and the birds were singing (or was it my tinnitus  ) I went with my partner and we had a quality night with some classics being belted out - residents' nights are good for these. Unfortunately it was one of the quieter nights, but the music made up for it. If I wasn't doing Emery down in Manchester in March, I'd come along to The Arches and meet you. (Plus Jules and Durand aren't really my cuppa these days, but that's a whole new thread!) Have a great time and look forward to hearing all about it and particularly how sore your throat was the day after from shouting 'Here we, here we, here we f***ing go!' all night
  13. Hi Quadders and Chrissie. Can't wait for the Emery night - should be awesome, as you say! Yes, Chrissie, I still live in Scotland. Just outside Glasgow in Hamilton, but work in the big city lights. Is this your first trip to the Arches?
  14. Not sure about that monthly mix, but during his R1 show on 10th April 2004 he played "David Forbes - 'Questions Must Be Asked' (Magica Mix) [Eve]". Maybe try that one?
  15. Congratulations Tom on 5 years! Sadly I don't get the time to listen as I used to in the good old days, but your shows have brightened up many a commute for me. All the best with the anniversary show and I hope to be able to download some of it after the event. The 3 hour show looks particularly sumptuous
  16. Good thanks, Tom. How about you? Played any good gigs lately?
  17. Thought I should add a 'hello' too. Good to see some of the regulars still on here. I'm coming out of clubbing retirement (again, does it ever end?) and heading along to Emery's 7hr set at Sankeys. Anyone else doing this?
  18. I came out of retirement this weekend! This event was a stone's throw away from us and was only £20, so the temptation was too much to bear. It was more of a daytime event, 12noon to 10.30pm, so we headed along at around 3pm. Security was very tight, but being so close to Motherwell, that was no surprise  It was a very small site for a 'festival' probably about half the size of a football pitch which made it difficult to find somewhere quietish to sit down and have a few (expensive) drinks to get into the swing of it - £20 for 5 drinks tokens. So, we chose a spot against a barrier and swiftly had to move due to 2 girls trying to strangle each other. After relocating and topping up with a few more £4 plastic bottles of Fosters, the bass in the main tent (4 'arenas' in all - but I swear that our 4 man tent is bigger than one of the arenas) kicked in. I'd heard a rumour that Gareth Emery was due to start around this time, so investigated. Indeed it was Emery and he played for 2.5 hours. It was a bit up and down, but he played some cracking tunes, including, of course, More Than Anything, which brought the roof down. I recognised quiet a few of his tunes, which for an old-timer who rarely listens to dance music these days, I was delighted at. A few more scuffles ensued so we headed to the bar, to find they had run out of mixers. Quite annoying as I really fancied a Vodka and Coke. They had also run out of Fosters, so now it was onto cans of Heineken - poured into plastic cups for 'safety reasons'. I informed the barmaid this was going to get spilt, so she told me to be careful. I let her know that it was a festival and unfortunately the majority of attendees hadn't come to be careful, but to fight each other instead. It fell on deaf ears. Then Simon Patterson came on. He took a few tunes to get into it, but then played a good set for the next hour; some pretty bouncing tunes. I did think that he had very little crowd interaction and could have easily been playing with by himself in his bedroom. Another bar trip during his set saw the bar now out of all types of beer, but someone had been to Asda to buy some Coke. So, we enjoyed a vodka and coke at last. By this late hour (about 9pm) my aged legs were starting to wilt, but I had the excitement of Jules' set still to come, so we returned to the bar, They were now out of vodka, but after another trip to Asda they now had cans of Fosters - poured into plastic cups. (I didn't waste my breath) Off back into the main tent and Jules was doing his best at emptying the main tent. I didn't recognise any of the tunes (probably not surprising as I stopped listening to his show about 4 years ago), but they weren't the best it has to be said. However, the mixing was fine, but unfortunately the vast majority of the crowd agreed with me on tune choice and had left. Jules was oblivious, but more intent on taking photos of the few folk left. We had a single drinks token left, so not wishing to waste it, returned to the bar where it was now vodka again - but no mixers. Oh well, waste not want not. We shared it between us and left at the ungodly hour of 10.15pm. Can't say I'd recommend this to event to anyone, but Emery was worth seeing for £20. Nice to do a review again - I sincerely hope it isn't my last :boohoo:
  19. The BBC is a far more professional outfit than any other UK broadcaster. To pay £140+ to be able to watch F1 without any adverts is worth it alone. Add to that the 30 mins+ I spend on their website at lunchtime each day, Test Match Special throughout the summer and winter series, and advert free films and TV programmes. And how many people rely on the BBC for news and current affairs? Can you really trust news that is paid for by advertisers, who are only interested in viewing figures? They have also ventured into online services well, with the iPlayer leading the way. The quality of their programming (TV and radio) is unique, but they do have to ditch some of their overpaid celebrities. (Thankfully the worst offender has decided to disappear without renegotiating his fee).
  20. Hi Chrissie, Glad you made it up to Glasgow to experience the atmosphere. Its a real shame that The Arches was closed at the time you came (incidentally, its due to work being carried out to Central station above - they are building a new platform for the Airport Rail Link which has now been shelved - don't ask!!!), but I'm sure the atmosphere was just the same in the Academy. I presume you managed to speak to Jules as I'm sure he would have been impressed with the effort you made to go and see him. What a nightmare about the bag! Whilst I was reading your report and you mentioned the bag, I was worried you were going to say that something had been stolen from it, or it had been damaged. So I suppose it was a hassle retrieving it, but it could have been worse. I hope you manage to get back up soon and visit The Arches. Its always worth trying to pick a night that is likely to be busy, as it is a venue that can alter the size by opening a specific amount of arches depending on ticket sales. Its only when its fully open you really appreciate it - ie you lose all your mates, can't get a phone signal and spend the full night alone!!!
  21. Sorry, you'll all need to speak up a bit - I'm Mutton Jeff
  22. Nice one - well done mate. Remember to treat all 'Fragile' parcels as footballs
  23. There's a reason for that
