Verna)' [Northern Exposure] What a brilliant choice from Darude - I'd totally forgotten about this track! I remember really enjoying this one while I was still in school & fantastic to hear it again...

I think a final Essential Mix would be brilliant on paper but sadly I very much doubt it will happen. Even a final show containing some of Jules' all time favourites during his reign at Radio 1 would be wicked but it wouldn't surprise me if it was just a normal show as if he wasn't leaving (typical Radio 1!). Shame because some sort of tribute show or E-Mix would be a great way for him to sign off & it should definately happen considering the years of service he has given.

Without question, my favourite NYE DJ set ever is Jules' live R1 broadcast from Donegal Square going into 2003. I wasn't actually there sadly but I remember leaving a very dull house party that night just so I could return home & catch it live on the radio! It may sound a little sad but I really enjoyed it! Jules' midnight countdown is absolutely immense as well - still gives me goosebumps when I listen to it now. Must have been an amazing atmosphere at the time... I've never been 'proper' clubbing on NYE myself either - usually just do house parties or hit a couple of local bars afterwards. I can never see the point in paying £20-£30 to enter a place which would normally cost around £5 on any other night for example. I always find the night goes a little flat once midnight's been & gone anyway...

I'm glad it's not just me that thinks this... I've been feeling 'too old' for Radio 1 for the past couple of years now as I can't really get into any of the daytime music output or relate to the daytime DJs anymore (I'm 26 & don't consider myself 'old' yet lol!). I used to really enjoy Moyles in the morning but I've been rapidly going off him in recent times also. Not to mention that now the majority of the urban/dubstep DJs off 1Xtra seem to be crossing over to R1 in their droves, I can feel an even bigger distance between myself & R1. Jules' show is the only show I listen to regularly week after week & when the curtain falls on that at the end of the month, I probably won't bother with R1 at all afterwards. As mentioned before, time moves on & things change, etc & I feel extremely lucky to have been part of the generation that has experienced Jules' legendary reign on R1 from day one until now... Looks like it'll be internet radio/podcasts for me from now on!

Used to love the Annual, Clubber's Guide, Trance Nation series back in the day. They would be full of excellent house & trance tunes that Jules would be hammering at the time. Personally I noticed a slight decline back in the early-mid 2000s when some Clubland/'Scouse House' style tunes started to make an appearance on the albums... Nowadays they are dreadful - they don't even put any trance tracks on the CDs anymore! They're full of Guetta/SHM style commercial stuff or dubstep/drum & bass. Can't even bring myself to look at the tracklistings of the new MOS comps anymore (I think that probably goes for 90% of mix CDs that are out now to be honest!) :sleeping:
