Absolutely love that Dj Punk rock tune (it's the Plump Djs remix as a by the by). That bassline wouldn't sound out of place in the harshest of dubstep tunes today. So symptomatic of the diversity of Jules at the time, and the complete confidence to not play it safe like many others, and drop something like that on such a massive stage.

Lest we forget too, Nappy Hardcore. *shudders*

Question. The Advent tune that Jules plays, is that the way it is on the vinyl, or does Jules mix another tune into it? It changes into a totally different tune in the second part. Speed garage was the 'in' thing for a while. It was new, fresh, and a lot of it was British based, which was to be proud of. Funny, I just bought an old Essential Selection, Pete Tong cd the other week, a good 40/50% of it was forms of speed garage. In comparable terms, it's a lot like dubstep. A sub-genre that sits side by side with most forms of dance. Many of the big tunes of the time would've had a speed garage remix thrown in, as a lot of tunes have dubstep mixes now. A track that inspired a lot of it was such a track; Armin Van Heldens version of Tori Amos' Professional widow, and his mix of Spin Spin Sugar. I'd say dubstep has more longevity though, although it remains to be seen. It followed a very basic formula. Long minimal intos, just the beat and (normally) a drum and bass snare, time stretch sample. Breakdown, then the main part kicked, the bassline; a heavy jungle style one. Some of it was excellent, but with a formula that basic, it was always going to die a death pretty quickly unless things changed, which it didn't, it evolved into other genres, notably the garage which went mainstream later and suffered a similar fate. I loved a lot of it, my mate used to have collect loads of vinyls of it, but remember going out a night and the dj played an unexpected speed garage set the whole night, and thinking how boring it got after a while, and that shone through in the genre as a whole. Fun while it lasted, but nothing earth shattering. Will try put up a few tunes later (if I can remember the names).

Mate, where did you get the notion to remix this one from? Such an awesome tune, thanks for reminding me of it ! Loving the update; would've bought that if you'd released it, for sure. Love when a tune that you'd completely forgot about gets an update like this, rather than the endless 'resprays' and '2012 update' you get of all the same, obvious classics. Seems the original (the 'Alive mix' that Jules played) version was not released digitally, sadly. I can find the other mixes on itunes, but not that one.

Mate, if it's not too much bother, I'd absolutely love that! Thanks so much for the offer. Not forgetting the equally brilliant 'Viola' too. Seminal tune that. He doesn't seem to be doing anything these days. For a while I mistakenly thought he was the German dj 'Moguai', who produces nowadays. He does more housy stuff though, some of it not bad too.

Upon searching discogs, it seems that it was never released on cd format, bar a Platipus Archive mix cd, would that be the reason it isn't available digitally? Have turned the internet upside down looking for a good quality digital version anywhere, to no avail. Immense tune.

Thing is, I think he's got ready-made scapegoats this year; he didn't do near half as much spamming and twitter badgering for votes as last year. He's also off radio1 and scaling down the dj'ing a bit. There you go, mystery solved. Everything's rosy in the garden. 'Let me hear you scream!!!'

The amount of artists using this hashtag really is pitiful. Plainly an attempt to get clueless Americans following them :facepalm: I really hate that side of trance now. #trancefamily. Those feckin heart logos with your hands at gigs. Toe-curlingly awful.

I think that Mardi Gras one is the one I was after for ages too mate. Used to love that set, i had it on tape as well. Had an excellent Robbie Rivera mix of Felix Da Housecat's Strobe on it, which Jules played for a while, that I have never been able to track down since. Even Robbie himself said on twitter he had a look but couldn't find (digitally anyway).

Didn't he play a proper classics set recently, and a few off this board were at it? Seem to remember people were very complimentary of his set then. So he obviously has it in him, and is fully capable of doing it. He plainly just doesn't choose/want to. Sad really.

Disappointing to read that, it really is. Disappointing, but sadly, not all that unexpected at this stage.

My home town, mate, place called Letterkenny in Ireland (Full Tilt/ Timmy and Tommy are from here). Very seldom we get any big dj's here, so someone of that ilk was an absolute treat.

Saw Sasha for the first time live on Friday night. Still buzzing from it. Love nights like that; all my mates together, (which doesn't happen very often these days), everyone in great form and brilliant music. Can't remember the last time I just stood on the dancefloor for about an hour straight, just loving every minute, not giving a shit (without any, erm, chemical assistance either, I must add). Restores your faith in the scene, which I think I needed a bit.

When I saw the thread title, I thought 'jeez Jules is really getting desperate with his jingles now'.
