  1. I was 18 in 1999 so timed it perfect. I remember working every night after college (a levels) for 4 hours to save up for tunes and lost weekends. I used to get paid weekly aswell so it never lasted long. I used to get £120.00 a week, more than nearly all my mates! I used to spend about £30 a week on vinyl, about £20 train tickets to get to sheffield and about £40-50 on going out. Cos i worked on saturdays i used to have to finish work at 1800hrs, grab clothes, get my mates rounded up and we'd get the earliest train we could. Of course, we always had Jules saturday show on the walkman whilst heading up to Sheffield, Media or to Cream. I have fond memories of literally being a vegetable on the way home though and seeing the other people that had been out clubbing with disco dirted up "wookies" (remember them?) and what not, they were some tired moments, but god they were special times, i sorely miss them.
  2. for some reason, i cant post under the moonman log in. I want it back but its rendered useless. Unless some mod can delete it and rename this one Moonman (which i'd very much like) i'm stuck with this account.
  3. i always check before hand what equipment they've got. I'll burn a few cds just in case, but the last 3-4 times ive played out, i've used my laptop. A lot more places now have either Serato or Traktor boxes already setup - so all you have to do is plug your laptop in.
  4. yeah, i firmly believe its the way forward, it took a while for DJs to make the switch to CD, now the same will happen with Laptops. I've played out using Serato and loved it, Traktor will be better. Also, when i've been playing out, i've been seeing more and more people djing from laptops. The timecoded cd\vinyl basically just talks to the laptop software telling it whereabouts in the track it is and what pitch the cd\vinyl is running at etc. Its clever stuff. I noticed i wasn't paying attention enough on one mix, so i'll do another tomorrow and upload it (listening to the tune rather than mixing!) The tune i was listening to rather than beatmatching was Delerium vs. Gareth Emery. Theres loads of stuff on Youtube about it. I got switched onto Traktor when i saw a local guy use it, i had ago and was so impressed, Serato just had to go.
  5. Never used virtual DJ. You use your turntables or CD players which have a timecode pressed onto them. This is fed back to the laptop (via the soundcard you get) allowing you to play MP3's using timecoded CD or Vinyl (you can also flick the input over on the mixer to play normal vinyl). I think pretty soon, everyone will be playing off laptops anyway. It's the logical progression. I was a Serato user, but Traktor just completely blows it out of the water - this is what i'll be sticking with. And no, you can scratch with it if you so please, but i'm not into that either, i just like mixing tunes.

    Your DJ Setup

Here's my current setup; 2x Technics SL1200's 1x Battered old Gemini PS 626 Mixer Laptop running Traktor Scratch Pro with Audio 8 Soundcard. I did my first mix on it tonight which i'm gonna upload just to see what y'all think to the sound quality! Also, i'm old skool and stubborn. No matter how many times i try with CDJ's, i always go back to Technics. I like them, i know how they react and i can mix on them way better than what i can with CDJ's, which i find (too responsive), as they're what i learned on - i know them so well. As a piece of technology, CDJ's are amazing though.
  7. i record through Traktor Scratch Pro now. Its a seriously hot piece of software that. I'm am utterly impressed by everything on it.
  8. i know, i really really like that "This Is That Silence" mashup which no one else seems too!

    Hmmm question

Unless Jordan gets into production, i cant see him cutting through big time. I think now, to get on the DJ circuit, you have to be a producer aswell. The people that have all broke through as DJs in the past 3-4 years have all done so off the back of productions. Eddie is the last DJ i cant think of that broke through on being a DJ solely. Anyway, one that has particularly impressed me of late is Laidback Luke. Absolute maniac.

    Hmmm question

i've always had Jules down as a more housier DJ. He always has been. A trance DJ to me is Armin Van Buuren or someone like that. Eddie Halliwell (who i've never really rated - must be something to do with the overexaggerating EQ movements) is more on the techno tip. Jules just plays the more pumping european house as opposed to the soulful US sound - i dont think he's a "garage" man. Pete Tong is the one who i thinks been pulling it out the bag recently. His "new" style is right up my street. Dirty, dark and bassy.
  11. That half hour mix is simply amazing. I've listened to this show and would whole heartidly recommend y'all download it. If only for the half hour mix. It makes me so sad listening to these old shows. Sad, that these times will never return, sad that music won't be as good again, sad that i'm not 18 anymore. But then, they make me glad that i started clubbing and was part of the whole scene back then. I know it sounds cliche, but kids just breaking into the scene today will never get to hear these amazing tunes in a club. Friends Of Matthew "Out There" (Lange Remix) is, still in my eyes, Lange's finest production. It's simply amazing and i'll never forget hearing Jules play this at crasher. Also, the Signum mix of ATB. That breakdown is beautiful. The mixing in that half hour mix is superb aswell - not a duffer in sight or sound. Its hard to imagine this is 10 years ago. Just listening to this CD takes me back. I can't believe how everything has changed in that time. Not just musically but things like the place i live etc. Thanks Simcut for the Ups. I'd love to know what Jules' opinion is on listening to these old shows.
  12. meanwhile 16 years earlier... CARL COX LIVE IN 1992 This is why Coxy is a legend. He still loves it!
  13. yeah, i was just old enough to start clubbing (well i went underage and to ibiza when 17 in '98!), but the music was just so so good. d/ling this now. cant wait.
