milkybarkid
..... of 'new' old Jules sets? A gloomy thought that dawned on me the other day when this site popped into my head as I was talking to an friend about old tunes etc. That's bound to be pretty much it, isn't it, as regards people uploading old tapes etc that they've got lying about from the 'golden era'. Surely any undiscovered tapes will not have stood the test of time if someone were to chance upon them now. I assume R1 have them all archived on Dats or something and as such will never be released unless necessary. Hopefully some will surface at a car boot sale or something, but I assume we've reached the pinnacle. In this day and age of throwaway, unending releases and music, I think it's safe to say we'll never see an era like it. How lucky we are to have been through it then, (some of us!) and still have it preserved here for whenever we want to remember. Still amazing that there are id's being chased and identified some 15+ years later. Speaks volumes about how good it was then.
Max Kane
You're probably right mate. But it's still absolutely fantastic to listen back to some classic shows The uni tour shows are still my favourites, so many incredible tracks all around at the same time
Spin Doctor
I don't think it will ever end, as there will always be new finds, but we certainly have passed the peak and new discoveries will drop off in frequency. I have uploaded a few mixes to Fuzzy which have yet to be included and I have some recording which haven't been ripped yet; there will always be similar situations. Getting R1 to release its archive might not be impossible either. There was considerable discussion about it serveral years ago but sadly nothing happened. I am optimistic that this will happen at some point in the future.
Neuro
I'm catching up with a few people on here later in the year and we'll do an audit of the files to check what's lying around on our hard drives and not yet uploaded. There are definitely a few Saturday shows to upload (mostly post-2003) from own own collections, and Simcut might have some more tapes (I will find out!), otherwise, this is pretty much all the audio we have on the Archives. I have recently found one half of the "end of year" show in 2000 (tracklisting here) and definitely have the other half somewhere on MiniDisc, so when I find it, I'll be uploading that this year. The BBC have a radio archive which will definitely contain a lot of Jules' shows but it's difficult to obtain permission to access this without good reason, and I'm unsure where or how it is stored. I can't really ask them for a trove of shows just so we can reupload them here as they will refuse it. It might be a case of going through the Radio Times Archive and picking a handful of must-have specific (and missing) shows and asking if they are available from the BBC Sound Archive? JasonB
Re the Beeb, cannot see it happening anytime soon.
lyndon
I've found an old minidisc of Jules' Radio 1 Ibiza show from 2003, which I'm now saving down in audition and will be uploading. I also have the one from 2002 but only a bit of it. I recorded a lot in 2004/5/6 and may have some to throw on, but will upload elsewhere as my interwebs is slow on the upload at home. I've often wanted to do this to obtain some old Mark & Lard stuff, not sure what is kept and what isn't. Maybe special ones with guests or ones at times of big world events (9/11) may be on file. Might have more chance with Jules as it's a specialist show. Gaining access is really difficult though.
lyndon
So much for the new show then.

I will look into this today for you as our PHP settings permit up to 128MB uploads (and admins can circumvent if file size is larger). I'll update you on here. lyndon
The file was under 128MB and still wouldn't have any of it.

Simcut
Can assure you the audio isnt done with, I've had disappearing episodes over the past few months + last couple of years. So I can be blamed for the content drying up, but life comes first Going on my list for 98-00 stuff I've got the following that has no audio onsite yet. 13 tapes from 1998 20 tapes from 1999 5 tapes from 2000 not to mention a few tapes from 2001-3 that Aza sent to me! FuzzY-LogiC
Press play please! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_f7XuTr3wPg&feature=youtu.be&t=311 Right, with that out of the way, I'll echo what Simon said, life comes first. Sometimes I wish I could take 14 days out of the calendar and just get everything JJA related done I too have some audio that has yet to be uploaded, old and newer. As we have always focused on the old stuff, we have loads of the newer shows that needs to be uploaded. I will see if I can sort through what I have and at least make a list of everything not uploaded. That should make it easier and faster to prepare and upload the files whenever there is a free moment

I have Jules's end of year round up form 2000 on minidisc somewhere in crystal quality - determined to find it this summer and upload it for everyone
milkybarkid
Maybe my op was misconstrued a little, I didn't mean the end of this site, I meant the end of audio being unearthed, though I am more than happy to be proven quite wrong in that regard. Awesome to hear that there are still more bits and bobs to come. You just never, ever tire of it. If it's a new mix uploaded, with nothing but familiar names you've heard a hundred times, you still can't wait to download and listen. A greater endorsement after all these years, I couldn't give. Neuro
Simcut has unearthed a few more tapes from 1998 and 1999. We're just sorting out server issue with hosting the mp3s and they'll be here
