Neuro
The instrumental of It's My Turn also features on Jules' fantastic studio Essential Mix in December 99 - also on this board if you hunt for it
Tremor
Mauro vs Shirley and Da Hool vs Human League... both played at the R1 Essential Relief in 2001... Were these actually made as bootlegs by jules then for the event? I always assumed he just used accapellas live in the sets. I remember listening to this broadcast, was quite cool although I dont think jules did too well loosing to fatboy slim in the first round i seem to remember. The funniest thing was Westwood who tried to compete against all the other R1 dance DJ's. Remember him saying something like: "House DJs fall back...." Neuro
Totally off-topic but remembering that Essential Relief thing I seem to remember Fergie going all Trancey and actually producing a very good set!
JasonB
Did I read somewhere that Jules got those essential releif mashups pressed onto a load of 7 Inch acetates? They wreent done live, they were done in t studio and pressed proper.
Tremor
Fair enough, will trust your knowledge Mr.B... they were a bit amaturish tho i thought, added a bit of a novelty factor though. It does actually ring a bell now that u mention it about them being pressed on 7 inch.
Uberduck
Yeah that was a wicked event. Jules was really upset afterwards because of all the trouble he went to making those tracks. He sampled Aretha Franklin on one if I remember rightly. Didn't Dave Pearce win it? Or was it Lottie? Feckin laughed my head off because Tong was presenting it and everytime Dangerous Dave made it through a round he kept clarifying that your voting to keep them in, not vote them off!! I had a tape of this but it was mangled in my tape player. Sonique played an absolutely wicked set with no singing (thank god) and loads of really chunky vocal house tracks! (Or am I getting confused as to whether she played in the second one of these events??).
