I was just wondering what radio stations people tend to listen to during the day? Most people are here because they enjoy Jules' radio show, but what about daytime?

I used to listen to Radio 1 a lot, but now, as I've got more interested in radio and presenting, I listen to lots of different stuff.

If I'm in Norwich I tend to listen a mixture of some of the local stuff and Kiss aswell in that area. Back at home either Radio 1 or a local commercial station. What about you?

I'll be honest & admit that I haven't even got the radio tuned-in properly on my car stereo, I always have a CD or .mp3 disc on.

Elsewhere I occasionally listen to R1 though again it's fleeting really. If I'm exceptionally hungover I'll whack on my clock radio which is tuned to R1 just to give me something ti listen to, Moyles is ok in small doses I find.

I used to tune into Galaxy on saturdays for Paul Kershaw's shows but they've put them back to a later hour now so I'm rarely home

ALWAYS listen to my iPod in the car. Cannot stand listening to Radio1 during the daytime as it is just total trash. I was moving one of our vehicles across the yard today and Radio 1 came on as I turned the key. Edith Bowman was recommending a new trackbut after the first 30 seconds I had to turn it off. God knows what it was but I'm still mopping up the blood that gushed from my ears :( .

I float around between local stations mainly - mainly Mercia FM and Touch FM. Mercia FM becomes annoying after a while though because their playlist repeats about 4 times per workday, they play too much rock/indie, and their presenters are a bit too "textbook" and dull.

Touch FM play much better music, but they sound unprofessional. They used to be called Kixx 96 and had some great presenters - Dave Kelly, who left for Galaxy, Chris Brooks who left for Essex FM and then Capital Radio, and a guy called Macca who was sacked. Since CN Radio bought it out, its sounding really unprofessional, and it doesn't even have any live presenters between 10pm an 6am - its just constant music chruned out by a computer. Its also not uncommon to hear 20 seconds of silence between songs now and again, and jingles played over commercials and news broadcasts. One female presenter is very annoying - constantly talking about healthy eating and dieting. She's the only person that cna talk about dieting for 4 hours per day, 5 days per week.

I only listen to Radio 1 for Jules. Over the years, the station has got worse and worse. I used to listen to all of the dance shows, until Rampling left, Jules lost his Friday show, Dave Pearce lost the late drive show, Dance Anthems was moved to Friday, etc. Sara Cox is the most annoying person ever, and Chris Moyles, although funny at times, loves the sound of his own voice. Chris Moyles gets all the credit, yet Comedy Dave is the genius behind the show. Scott Mills is the best of the bunch.

Personally, I only listen to Radio 1 for Jules, but recently have been tuning into Pete Tong also on a Friday evening. I agree with a previous comment that the quality of Radio 1 has deteriorated drastically over the last couple of years. I find Chris Moyles irritating at times, although Chappers and Dave are quite funny... I usually listen to local chat and debate shows during the day here in Ireland...

On the odd occasion I find myself listening to Trever Nelson on Radio1 listen again feature as I dont mind some RnB and hip hop from time to time.

It's the 'fun' DJ's on Radio 1 that seriously get on my swede. Moyles, d*** & Dom (AAARRRGGGHHH :wall: ) and Vernon are the prime examples. Can't stand any of these lot. Yeah at times Moyles may have a few funny things to say but he's so egotistical I hate it. Scott Mills is funny but the music on his shows is the usual daytime trash and the typical listeners in my mind are chavs sat in white vans reading copies of the Daily Sport whilst eating McDonalds.

Personally I wish Jo Whiley had a specialist show outside of daytime hours as her music taste is ace and she's so chilled but the crappy commercial pop ruins her show.

Oh, and how can Kelly Osbourne warrant a show? Just because she's lived in one of the most mental families in history that somehow means she's qualified to tell people how to live their lives on the 'Sunday Surgery'.

Edit: You see!! Dom's fellow host is such a d i c k that his name is censored!!

I quite like Vernon Kay - he's funny, but he knows when to shut up, unlike some of the others on Radio 1.

Apart from the odd one or two tunes, the presenters will have very little choice on the music that they play. That'll be controlled by the main men and the producers. Radio 1 have a playlist, and its their policy to play those tunes so many times throughout the day - like most other stations.

Jo Whiley really annoys me though. I find her so bland, and her voice is annoying.

Oh, and how can Kelly Osbourne warrant a show? Just because she's lived in one of the most mental families in history that somehow means she's qualified to tell people how to live their lives on the 'Sunday Surgery'.

I agree! There's thousands of talented people that have studied Media to get a career on the radio, and yet they end up on local stations earning small salaries, and they you get someone that is unqualified, and gets paid megabucks just because theire family is a sandwich short of a picnic.

Thats the problem with Radio 1 in general - hardly any of them are presenters that have worked their way up from local stations. Instead, they're all celebrities on huge salaries - and it doesn't work. No wonder the BBC has so many financial problems. They could host a station equally as good, if not better, with normal radio presenters that have worked hard in local stations. Dave Kelly on Galaxy is one of the best presenters on local radio - a million times better than the likes of Sara Cox. Sara Cox makes for boring listening - her voice is annoying, she's not in the slightest bit funny, she slurs half of her sentences because she talks so quick and can't get her words out, and she doesn't talk to the listeners - she talks amongst the people in the studio with her. Worst "presenter" ever!

I don't listen to R1 duing the day as l don't really like the music that's played. I'm not keen on Chris Moyles as a presenter or Sarah Cox as most of the time l can't understand what she is rabbiting on about as she mumbles.

Itend to read the papers when l get in from work and listen to stuff l have on my MP3 player or listen to some of the mixes on this site.

I normally listen to some of Pete Tong's Friday show and then go on the internet and listen to Stuart Fraser's Friday night show which l really enjoy. I use to listen to ETN quite alot but l'm out 3 or 4 nights a week and so don't get much time to listen to as much music as l would like. I listen to music on my journey to and from work but don't listen to R1 , l plug in my MP3 player. However it only takes 6 mins to get to work which is barely long enough to listen to one track.

If there is a good ess.mix on "listen again" or on "newmixes" then l will listen to it. I rarely watch TV these days, can't be doing with watching "soaps" as it is such a waste of time. I do enjoy The Gadget Show and the occassional film.

I always record Jules's R1 show and listen that same morning whilst getting ready for work.

Yeah I do listen to galaxy from time to time on the net which can be quite good. Definitely agree with what you're saying about Kelly OSbourne, I've heard the surgery from time to time and she's not a very good presenter at all. Always getting mixed up with what she's trying to read from her script.

I really like colin murrays show at night. If i'm in bed I tend to listen, he plays some really good music and I like his features, the black hole is good where people send in stuff they've found online, remixes, live versions, comedy clips etc.

I also try and listen to Tongy, quite often I'm out or busy so quite often listen again.

I used to enjoy listening to Paul Kershaw's show on Galaxy, Saturday nights as it used to follow straight on from Jules when he was in the 5-7 slot. Unfortunately Galaxy moved it back to a much later slot & I'm very rarely home now when it's on

I'm a bit of a Radio 2 man during the day when I'm not checking out promos or recording. I tend to keep BBC News 24 on a lot because when you're working with music, you can't really have another track going on in the background.

Suppose I should probably have something to say on this one.

I listen to Radio 1 or 2 on my way in to work, sadly I'm on air at the same time as Moyles, so can't listen to him. He IS still by far the best thing on Radio 1, although Scott Mills is a damn sight better than he used to be.

On my way home, I listen to CDs - I can't listen to my own station because I'm sick of it by then, and Radio 1 has Jo Whiley or Edith Bowman, both of which have incredibly annoying voices. Plus the rather obvious fact that Edith cannot present a radio show.

You're right about Kelly Osbourne and d*** & Dom - both only have shows because they had an appeal on TV. The same as the god-awful Vernon Kay, who should never be allowed near a microphone. I actually think Sara Cox is OK and can be very funny if she puts her mind to it. There are plenty of very very good local radio presenters (amongst the tripe) that will always be overlooked because the top stations go for big names, not big talent. Only exception being Moyles, who worked his way up because of his talent.

Rant over.

Hello all, by the way! I do still read this, just rarely stop to post! :-)

"Nice"

 Sorry, had to be done. Jazz Club is one of the best sketches on the fast show. I have the complete box set and could watch it continuously as it is pure genius.

Radio is the ultimate medium for me because it is purely for one thing - sound. You haven't got the contamination or distraction of visual media to contend with. Radio stations outside the UK can also be goldmine, since they have far more local (and probably illegal) stations than over here on our tiny island.

I've personally found some fantastic stations in my travels all over Europe, particularly in Belgium where I remember getting lost one dark rainy night in the car but in doing so definitely found the best dance station in the area!

These DAB thingy's are pretty cool for more choice, I end up listening to all sorts of random stuff when I'm in the kitchen making my breakfast lol.

To agree with Neuro in a slightly different way, what the hell is the point in watching music channels? Absolute waste of time imo, you use your ears to listen, no point in using your eyes as well.

Especially when people try to justify it with electro house crap videos with big boobs etc in it. Uhhhh, watch some porn instead, with the radio on if you're that interested.

Anyways, back on subject, if you have the facilities then you don't need real radio stations, there's millions of t'internet stations that are waaaay better. Got my wireless network set up as a transmitter to every stereo in the house :D
