I remember all my mates would sneak into the local ritzy's under age whilst i was too afraid to attempt getting in in case i got blown out. I would have been 16/17 this year. From memory i got my first set of turntables this year, or the year before i forget now. I got some dodgy Soundlab DLP32s. Had them for about 6 months or so and got Technics. Listen to the tunes though, they all sound very different from one another. The creativity in this era was amazing. I never knew Lange was bubbling under in 98 though. He must have been about 24 years old! The tunes sound so different using hardware AND software to create them, nowadays a lot of producers just use Reason or whatever. At the time i wasnt into Jules at all i dont think, i started to like his selection about 3-4months after this show was broadcast. I was into the more commercial sound, and of course, speed garage. Some nice tunes on here, a lot i've not heard before. I've said it before, but listening to old shows like this is like a trip down memory lane. I used to love getting my money from my part time job and hitting the record store EVERY friday here in Peterborough, not knowing what gems i'd find. Now, my highlight is looking at Trackitdown.net and Beatport.com - it's just not as much fun. This show would have also been when Ibiza was becoming THE place to go on holiday, some say 98 was the best year for Ibiza too - remember Ibiza Uncovered on Sky 1??? I was actually 24 when this show was on, it was ROOS - Instant Moments that I blame for turning me into the Judge Jules fan I am today! (he used to play tunes out before he played them on the show back then aswell, I don't think that's so much the case now) I had seen him before and I was mainly a 'all kinds of DJ'(Seb, Tall Paul, Ian M, OOfleming, TDV, Sister bliss) fan att, then I saw Jules playing Instant moments and something happened in my brain that said I had to see that DJ again, I still can see the image in my head and hear the music, there was a girl in an angel costume and tiara staring at me, but look there's Bulgarian, Bocaccioa life, Ascension, Dreaming etc etc etc, anyway I started recording the shows, and reading Mixmag listings, and trying to make my friends go to Gatecrasher the other end of the country. Ended up travelling to Gatecrasher on my own but did manage to see Jules in Brighton and London quite regularly. Awwwwwwwwwww I love clubbing!
