Very excited to be playing in Leeds again for 'Blank' as part of Digital Society's massive March event. Having played for the guys at Blank last April & having sampled the DS atmosphere a few times before I can safely say it's right up there as one of the best emerging nights I've been to. Excellently run & in a gem of a club. All being well I'll be using my set for the show too.

More info to come :)

I'll be setting off for a nice (hopefully) leisurely drive to Leeds sometime this afternoon, really excited about playing for Blank again & as usual I'll endeavour to post a luminous report sometime over the weekend.

Hoping that the sets from Mark Naylor & myself will be suitable for the next Progressive Showcase too :)

Didn't have a moment spare to write a report over the weeked so briefly I'll fill everyone in (belatedly) today.

Headed off up the M6 to Leeds around 3pm on Friday, was plain sailing right up to Stoke where we were stuck in the usual Friday traffic, nothing to get excited about & we sat thru it without any concern. The rest of the journey once we cleared the M6 was comfortable enough & we had time for a brief food stop before the hotel check in.

Having arrived so early it was the plan that my friends & I (I'd taken with me a decent sized travelling party) would grab a shower then hit the casino (which was next door) before sampling a few bars & then on to MyHouse. The casino was pretty dead so we left after only one drink (with the group being £35 up all told). I've only been to Leeds previously twice before, once to swim in the National Swimming Championships when I was 13 (not much clubbing experience to rely on there then) & once last year when I played at the same event.

With a very rough knowledge of the area we aimed for the cooler, trendier side of the city whilst ensuring we weren't too far from the club. We hit a couple of bars (not too many drinks for me as I like to be sober when I play) before heading via taxi to the impressive MyHouse venue.

My previous visit to MyHouse ranks as one of my favourite gigs to date in my fledgling career, the atmosphere was electric & the clubbing fraternity in Leeds are exceptional & I was very much looking forward to renewing my acquaintances from last year.

I walked in & headed straight for the Blank room on the second floor, where I was due to play from 11.30 - 12.30. Resident & member of the promotion team Mark Naylor was playing the opening set & was in full flow as I enterred, Mark's become a good mate of mine so I made sure to grab a chat before dropping my stuff off to have a wonder around & to meet up with some other friends. Having chatted to a few people & checked out the impressive third 'DS Invitation' room I stayed for the majority of the night in room two - ala Blank. It'd be dishonest of me to big this up as a roadblock sell-out & to be brutally honest numbers were a touch dissapointing but the crowd that was assembled within the Blank room was a quality bunch, not shy of expressing their enthusiasm for the music being played.

I hit the decks bang on 11.30 & quickly sought to up the tempo whilst staying true to the mantra of Blank's core sound which is largely tech-house & techno with some progressive thrown in. My set was generously received (though I was a little less glowing in my analysis of my performance) & I stayed to watch the very impressive Jamie Fisher take over with some fantastic techno, catching up with promoter Marc Cruickshank & Robert Glenn (who was due to close the night).

By now I had abandoned my no ale policy & supped generously on the free beer whilst also ensuring I kept coherent enough to hold conversations with many of the excellent people who had stopped for a chat. I explored the rest of the club briefly taking in Che Armstrong's excellent set in the DS Invitation room & sampling some of the main room action too.

I left the club earlier than I would have ideally liked but members of my entourage (I'm not 50 Cent I've just run out of adjectives to describe them) were flagging & we headed back to our hotel for some much deserved shut eye.

General recollections of the night were once again exceptional & as ever it was great to do a bit of networking (I'm being decadent now - they were just drunken chit-chats with fellow DJs & promoters) & meet up with some of the regulars. For those of you that haven't yet got up to DS I seriously cannot recommend it highly enough & I very much hope to be back there soon

:)

Note

Due to some technical hitches the planned recording of sets from Mark & I didn't take place but I shall be re-recording my set from the night for use on next Monday's Progressive Showcase. The set will appear alongside a special guest mix from Mark (B)
