Dance Anthems on Radio 1

This is a bit of a dissapointment, if Dave Pearce were dead he'd be turning in his grave. Yes he does play the odd classic (last week i caught D'Lacey - Hideaway). This week i caught Alan Braxe & Fred Falke and then Tomcraft which is what i imagined it would be, but then it spoils. I can understand current stuff like the Swedish House Mafia but most of it is filled with cheesy Rihanna and Beyonce remixes. Like it's a homage to the Freemasons and Bimbo Jones.

The old format was a bit cheesey at times especially the first hour, but I never recall Dave Pearce playing something like Carly Rae Japseye or some tosh. Shame.

Dave Pearce is starting on Radio 2 soon, problem is the old-un's won't let him play any trance. So it will just be filled with 70's 7 80's disco, with Lola's Theme & Music Sounds Better in there to break it up. Radio 1's revival of Dance Anthems has confirmed to me that the station is way past it's best and long gone, Radio 2 needs to clear out the old guard like Jeremy Vine & Ken Bruce and start catering for the 90's & early 00's people.

Yep there are other stations. Radio 2 need to move on from playing music for the 80 year olds and put focus on catering for people 25 - 40. But it's a start if Dave Pearce's show is any good.

I wasn't particularly a fan of Dangerous Dave's show but this sounds far worse.

Why call it Dance Anthems in the first place? Just call it pop-crossover remix anthems so that the guy doesn't get stick from types like us and he can be free to play his Beyonce records all he likes

R1 baffle me sometimes, they bang on about tailoring things to their target audience and then f*** around with shows so that it appeals to no-one.

They did it with Jules by trying to get him to appeal to the listeners left over from Trevor Nelson and just isolated his loyal listeners, who didn't want to hear RnB gash mashups, while losing the RnB audience who didn't wana listen to trance.

Now they're doing it with Dance Anthems - playing chart friendly crossover nonsense because they think it's what the kids want - but ensuring that some similar older tracks are thrown on in a veign attempt to retain the listener base from the old show. Unsurprisingly it doesn't seem to work!

Give the "specialist" DJs free reign to play as they like and let them sink or swim by what got them there - their music!

I doubt they'll get Skream and f****** Benga to play a few Joris Voorn records to cross over better from Tongey though

Skream and benga, wont last long. its no match for real dance music, and it seems like every tune they play sounds the same.

I'm all for keeping my ear to the ground for new dance music, but i can't class remixes of R&B records as 'dance anthems' even though i admit R&B artists are making a lot of 128bpm tracks these days as standard. I think eventually they might drop the classics on the show, afterall I have to admit most of the audience Radio 1 aim to probably wasn't born when Todd Terry was releasing tracks in the mid - late 90's.

That might not be a bad thing though as someone else within the BBC could take the show name and give it some proper use.

Absolutely spot on!

I'm going to eBay for mine! :)

Or, if you fancy, grab a few freebies :)

Over the years I've done a few takes on these style sets if you and anyone else would be interested in checking them out:

Or, of course, one of latest and probably one of the most special ones; The Complete A To Z Of Aza

Been feeling rather reminisce myself of late and been checking a few of these out again. I love to share all my mixes with you on here so thought this may be a prime time to do so :)

Brother check out some 1999 mixes, pure classics.

Homelands Ireland 1999 is worth checking out!

i'll eventually get around to that, i'm just starting on 1998. i downloaded jules from soundcity 1997, which was probably one of his first radio 1 shows. i wasn't really old enough at the time to take dance music as seriously as i did 3 years later, but i find it amazing how many tracks that i knew on there.
