New FB Page for Jules....

A new fb page for people to show their appreciation of Jules on Radio1 & how he's missed.

In my opinion, Danny Howard show has not filled the gap on a Saturday tea time, a show full of SHM sound-a-like mixes is not exactly groundbreaking...

Friday nights are no better...

Jules will never come back to Radio 1 as he won't be DJ'ing for much longer anyway. The likes of him, Tong, Pearce, Seb Fontaine etc had the glory days. Makes me realize when I hear that intro on his essential mix the other night, you'll never hear Annie Mac or Danny Howard come live from Creamfields like that infront of all those people. They just don't have the same status as he did.

It's the same as daytimes for Radio 1. You could bring back Mark & Lard and they would be far more entertaining than anyone who's on right now. But the managment are in the frame of mind that if your over 30 nobody wants to know. This is why Radio 1 are being eaten alive by Radio 2, and this is why years down the line Radio 1 will be sold off by the BBC.

You forget That R1's target audience has always been teens to mid twenties, this has never changed so really weather we like the current commercial state of dance music or not that is what the younger generation like and R1 cover.

If you don't like it then listen to other stations with shows that do cater to your taste simply,

Why would the BBC sell of one of their national stations that pull in Millions of listeners? cannot see that happening!, more chance of radio 3 being sold off in that case (gets far less listeners)

But I'm 25 and have felt that Radio 1 in general has been mostly crap for well over 5 years now. Celebrity obsessed, self important DJ's seem to fill the air. Love or hate Moyles he was the last one who had any form of creativity, may as well listen to Capital and hear them talk about who One Direction are dating.

The specialist shows used to make up for that but even they are losing their quality now. I can't find any stations that play a mix of new and old dance music. Ministry of Sound Radio used to be decent a few years back, but it's all Avicii nowdays.

I'd say the only good strain in modern dance music I can find now is what the likes of Shadow Child, Foamo, Claude Von Stroke, Zinc etc are doing. At least it's a breakaway.

I agree entirely mate. Tong supports Shadow Child, Claude Von Stroke and the whole deep house sound on his show and is the only reason I tune into Radio 1 now. Even the Essential Mix has gone downhill. I mean, Nervo? Really?? I'd go even further and say that anyone over 21 is going to find Radio 1 pretty wanky nowadays. How old are these bosses at Radio 1?

Radio 1 has ALWAYS been like that though. Even in the days of Mark & Lard, as you mentioned, there were people like Sara Cox or Chris Evans that were full of their own importance, talking about celebrities and how many pints they drank the night before.

Radio 1 have rarely had any out-and-out natural radio presenters. They're not renowned for plucking out talented unknown DJs from local radio and grooming them for Radio 1. They go for highly paid celebrities that have never had any background in radio instead. That's why there's so many "erm's' and "oooh's" when presenters are talking. Radio 1 presenters wouldn't last 5 minutes in local radio. Radio 1 is different though - they have loads of money to spend/waste, and sadly, most people that listen to Radio 1 would rather hear a bland celebrity than a superb, talented, DJ that has been plucked from some obscure local radio station.

The only difference on Radio 1 to, say, 10 years ago is the music output. They've always played whats' popular with their target age range. 10-15 years ago, it was the likes of Oasis, Blur and half-decent dance music. There are no Oasis & Blur type bands and half-decent dance acts around any more. 20 years olds don't want that these days. Music has changed - they want whats popular in the charts. Sadly, thats SHM-esque dance music and X Factor contestants.

The "specialist" shows are different. When the likes of Jules and Rampling were "at their peak" on Radio 1, so was the style of music that they played. Trance and House boomed in the late 90's. Nobody wants Trance and House now. They want SHM-style commercial dance, Dubstep and Urban music. Radio 1 now cater for that audience instead.

Sadly, we've got older - and the music that people want has changed over the years too. Our tastes have just changed and the stations we used to listen to are just no longer relevant to our current tastes.

Radio 1 always had those type of celeb obsessed presenters, but they always countered that with Mark & Lard, Moyles, Simon Mayo etc. Who did talk about things in the papers but had more to their persona. There isn't one presenter on daytime now that isn't foaming at the mouth when they are talking about Union J. Amazingly I think Sara Cox is probably at her best now and they are pushing her out, I find her more bearable than the others.

I guess employing Kelly Osbourne at one point proved everything what Radio 1 are about nowdays.

Eventually I think the Americans will get bored of the EDM sound and go back listening to Ja Rule or whatever they did 10 years ago. It just seems like a fad to them or the 'in thing', they don't seem to embrace it in the same way like clubbers over here have done even as far back as the Northern Soul days in the 1970's.

In some ways I'd like the Dirtybird type sound that Tong plays to take over, with a re-emergence of UK Garage too. There are already commercial strains of it this year with Disclosure and MK seems to have come back a storm since the 1990's, remixing everything. But on the other hand I'd like it to stay as it is now and keep it to ourselves.

I hate how everything is about genres and bpm nowadays. Who cares a great track is a great track regardless. The thing I don't understand is there is so much politics in music nowadays people complaining about bpm and genre. I'm pretty sure that this never existed back in the early days people just enjoyed the music. Jules used to have a really unique sound and style of music that we all connected with because he would play an underground track and then play a track that had crossover potential. This is really what I miss, I hate going on about the politics of it all it does my head in. But I miss djs playing a diverse style as variety is the spice of life.

I listen to Jemmone radio station, or XFM via tune-in radio app. If I listen to radio. I also listen to k-klass podcast, Rich B's podcast, and various radio shows or mixes my friends might be doing.

There's no place for radio one in my life anymore.

My 16 yr old daughter however listens to and loves Annie Mac and the top 40.

I still can't figure how Annie Mac has taken Radio 1's flagship dance show and ends up playing R&B on it.

Andi Durrant is now leaving Capital after a disagreement with management there it seems, they are too obsessed about who Harry Styles is dating there as well. Massive loss to them, as I don't think they actually have anyone now who covers what he did.

Well she LOVES Annie Mac. She's all excited that Annie is back from maternity leave soon, apparently. I do like some of Annie's tunes because I've heard them played by other people and my daughter has then informed me that Annie plays them. But I don't listen to her show as I just don't warm to her radio personality.

Edit: I don't listen to radio one EVER these days, I'd rather hear nothing, if I had to choose.
