  1. Id love to do something outdoors aswell ffor the smokers alrite but its on a busy street across from a police station and also jugglers and fire eaters and stuff like that its a low ceiling building.

Last event I was at had someone doing facepainting as well as a guy making cocktails, both of these were free to hire as they made their money on the night. Not saying these 2 will be good for your night but just idea's to make your night something different. :)

  2. Sounds good, I am sure Michael Woods will be a great booking and would also think that anyone who follows the prog/house scene will have heard of him mentioned quite a lot.

Having a bit outdoors is also a good idea as well I think as it gives people a chance to go outside for a bit and cool down, have a smoke etc…

I have been looking about for venue’s around where I am from and there is next to nothing. A few guys are attempting to run a night in a pub/club but I really can’t see that working as its just another night out with different music to most people and they don’t draw in a crowd really.

What I am thinking about is renting an old building or another location close by but far away enough not to bother anyone and try and start from there.

  3. Lee haslem is gona cost €450 + flights, booking fee 15% and hotel min double room 3*

    ali wilson 500 and same

    Sophie sugar 500 and same

Never taught of genix his productions are top notch

Not a kearny fan his sets are the same every time he plays alsi paul webster hr always has a lot of gigs here in his home town so i want some one who has never before been here

I have also been looking it to starting a small night and one of the things I have found is that people like to be 'entertained' in other ways than just the DJ.

There have been a ton of nights who spend most of their budget on a DJ and then hope that his name will bring in the people and make them want to come back.

My advice would be to get a good DJ in for as cheap as you can and spend a bit of money in making your night stand out from the others. Wether this be by decoration of the club, face painters, entertainers/dancers etc...

Thats what I am thinking about doing, music is obviously the most important thing but I also want to create something that people will remember and will want to book tickets for the next event because they know that it is something different to the norm.

If anyone else who has ran a night before has anymore advice like Briggsy then those would be welcome for me as well!

  4. I've just ordered the X1 controller for Traktor so I can get more out of the software's effects. I'm still planning to use CDJ's in timecode mode but I'll give you some feedback on the controller once I've had a play.

I thought about the X1 as well as that would have solved my problem in regards to getting more out of the Traktor software but finally decided to take massive step and switch completely over.

DJM-600 sold already. Just need to get rid of the 1000 & 200 then I can purchase the S4. B)

  5. By the sounds of things mate I think going for a copy of Traktor and a midi controller would be you best option. It depends how much you want to spend but you can get midi controllers for really cheap and I am sure they will do the job along with Traktor.

I am selling my set-up just now in order to fund the Traktor S4 software/hardware. I have been thinking about it for ages and finally decided that it is time to try it out. My main reservation before was always being able to set it up in a club and the fear that it would freeze, crash etc…

Was playing at a gig on a boat at the weekend (behold a fine video for discouraging drinking before dj’ing! -

) and the guy on after me hooked up a midi controller and Traktor no problem at all. 2 guy’s who were playing on the boat’s deck were using S4 as well and they never had any problems what so ever.

The main thing that makes me want to switch over is the creativity factor in my sets. With the 2 CDJ’s I was limited to playing 2 tracks at the one time with the occasional loop thrown in now and again, it was getting stale for me. I like the thought of (especially when my sounds is drifting away from trance and more toward house music) being able to drop in an acapella or a sample from another track on the spur of the moment. The S4 is laid out like a standard mixer as well which I like because I like to be pretty hands on and don’t want to be touching the computer at all during my set.

Another factor for me, same as you, is the space that my current set up takes up and the logistics of moving it just now. With the nice weather and things (live in Scotland so still waiting for it to appear, if it ever will!) it would be nice to be able to throw my laptop and S4 into a bag, grab my speakers and set up out the back door, friends house etc… With the 2x cdj’s and mixer this is a bit of a pain! Even going to a gig I wouldn’t need to burn CD’s the night before, write up and print of what is on each one.

Have a look at this website regarding the S4 - http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/dj/traktor-kontrol-s4/ - there are tons of videos on youtube as well!

It comes in at the top end of the market at roughly £750 for everything but I have thought long and hard about it so I am making the step away from the CD’s!

My advice to you (if you are sure you want to ditch the cdj’s as it’s a big step, took me long enough to decide) is to go down the Traktor route and spend some time looking through Youtube at demo’s/tutorials of midi controllers and pick out something you like that is within the range of what you want to spend. Djtechtools is also a good site to look through.

  6. Nice kit there, Mark.

    Moving this to Open Chat...

Got CDJ800's and a DJM600 myself. Best instruments I've ever layed my hands on!

Why are you looking to move to that? I've just posted this here - is it for similar reasons?

Maybe you could even help post there to let me know more on what I'm looking for. What is this 'S4' like then and how does it work?

    Cheers :)

Thanks mate, was wondering where my post went to! :)

Yeah, the 800’s are a really good piece of kit. I have used them quite a few times and never had a problem with them or any Pioneer equipment for that matter!

I have been thinking about switching to the ‘digital’ dj’ing for a year and a half now I would say. I actually went as far as buying Traktor Scratch Duo at the beginning of last year as well which allows you to control your tunes via a laptop but still using the CDJ’s. Ended up selling it though as I was just using my CDJ’s to press play basically and I couldn’t use the full power of the Traktor program I didn’t think.

I will post my thoughts on your thread!

  7. Ah ha just the man i need to speak to can you PM me your msn add & i will speak to you next week im heading to manchester this morning for the manchester derby & wont be home until tuesday night! Cheers mate ;)

You are not going to believe this mate, just stuck it up on Ebay then remembered about this thread and came in to check. If I knew someone was interested I would have tried to get something done outside Ebay!
