  1. theres steps you can take to speed up a mac if your a mac user.

    download and use cleanmymac

    http://macpaw.com/

or use onyx - great program for clearing things

or delete your caches in both your home library folder and also macintosh HD root.

so home folder/library and delete the caches folder

and mactosh HD/library and delete the caches folder

reboot and it will re-create and speed things up a lot.

onyx will do both of them automated though and its free!

  2. There are a few good tunes out there yes - but few and far between - and definately far less faster tunes. Gone are the days of pacey peak-time sets. You've got DJs like Emery and Schulz playing peak-time sets at 134bpm now.

John O'Callaghan has been below par from the past 2 years - in fact, ever since he left Discover to go to Armada. He's one of the prime example of producers now making the Armin-friendly tracks that I mentioned above. He's also gone down the route of using those horrible high-pitched female vocals.

the point im making is decent tunes are out there, even if there slower tunes they are out there, yeah maybe less of them, but it doesnt seem to be a major issue for djs like emery, armin, o'callaghan or any other dj worth there salt finding them and making a good set out of them.....even if they arnt at 137 bpm which was the norm a few years back

  3. I agree. Trance has been on the decline since 2006 - and really lost its way completely around 2008 when almost every Trance DJ and producer decided to slow everything down and start copying each others ideas and/or start producing generic samey rubbish.

It seems now that almost every so-called has to follow the same fomula:

    1. Must be produced around 132-136 bpm.

    2. Must either be a Techy bassline with a breakdown that doesn't really go anywhere - or a floaty Anjuna-esque girly tune with a high-pitched female vocalist.

    3. Must have a vocal just for the sake of having a vocal.

    4. It must be Armin, A&B or Emery friendly.

i disagree, there are good tunes out there and good faster tunes, yeh maybe there is less of them but they are there.

how can armin and alike can find uplifting decent trancers i.e john o'callaghan stuff, daniel kandi, orjan nilsen tunes etc......

  4. i sold my iphone 4 mainly cos i was bored of it (having owned previous iphones) and it was the worst mistake i made!!

i currently own a HTC desire HD and its shockingly bad, terrible battery life, crap interface and i dont like it.

I cant afford to buy another iphone 4 outright and my contracts not up til; december, so im looking at getting a blackberry.

All i say is do it if your getting a good offer.

one thing to point out though, you mention you've put aussie sim cards etc inside it, beware that the iphone 4 doesnt take a regular full size sim card - it uses a Micro Sim Variety which is smaller than a normal full size sim, see pic

    Convert-SIM-To-MicroSIM.jpg

  5. his sets can be hit or miss i think is the thing.......

the 3rd deck setup i know is only used for jingles and accapellas over tracks...

i guess there used when the dancefloor is struggling in a bid to gear the crowd up a bit...but surely thats an issue to do with the music played and the order its played?

do they work in a full dance club environment i.e gatecrasher, godskitchen, arches etc? - no and he will get slated for it as its a commercial thing to do.

does it work in a commercial environment i.e luminar type clubs? - yes, but don't confuse the 2 types of clubs and clubbers

im guessing the idea for the jingles is jules or amandas, becuase iv never heard tristan do them in a set of his which i've heard

on a different note, maybe he's considering a b plan for the gigs drying up or his heart isnt in it anymore?, as taken from another board -

    Jules becomes a solicitor:

  8. tbh iv never heard a bad thing said about ferry corsten in terms of dj sets.

probably the most consistent trance dj out there, and his mixing is absolutely spot on, all the time.

Production wise he's ace too, went a bit experimental in the LEF stage, but still a decent producer,

sometimes i reckon he's not been given the credit he deserves.

  9. Doh! How did i not get that? To be fair, she has previous. Didn't she pose in a see through top in mixmag or summit? Still cant see why she'd send it to all her friends. Must've been a mistake.

apparently the mixmag cover was airburshed from what i heard.

but these are off her own facebook post......

seems a publicity stunt, either that or shes wanting to try and become a model.......

  10. There are loads of crap tunes about - but there always has been. The likes of Armin, John O'Callaghan, Bryan Kearney, Greg Downey, etc still manage to find good quality tunes to stay on top of their game - but Jules is ignoring them.

Jules does not have to play (and certainly doesn't have to produce) those awful indie bootlegs that he plays - there are enough good tunes out there to construct a set with.

I can't see how Jules can be defended really. There are some superb unknown DJs on loads of forums out there that always find good tunes and always pull off outstanding sets, yet Jules, who has access to pretty much any tune he wants, for free, feels the need to play shit novelty bootlegs that sound completely out of place in a Trance club.

The tunes are certainly no excuse for the sloppy mixing and lack of set flow either. You've only got to download one of his monthly mixes to hear the lack of flow. His sets are up and down all the time and they lose energy. He'll mix a Techy tune into an uplifting tune, followed by a pitched up proggy tune, followed by a techy tune again.

you mention the sloppy mixing and the set flow,

watch the dj's of jules at http://www.be-at.tv/ and you'll work the reasons why

the sloppy mixing is down to mixing on the fly - this is a dj thing, but basically he mixes tunes at last min on the fly, and doesnt pre-mix them first and then do the final mix near the end of the track, like a lot of djs do, to make sure things are correct, also the sennheiser hd25sp headphones personally i dont think are upto the job

as for set flow, this goes back to what i mentioned above, watch the vids at http://www.be-at.tv/ and you'll work it out

  11. jules has himself commented in his own diaries that the poll is good for mainly for overseas bookings, mainly i think in the us where they keep a keen eye on the poll in terms of booking djs.

The rules of the dj mag poll say you can plug the poll as much as you want and market yourself for plugs via social networking sites, you just can't rig the votes and get agencies to do massive vote rigging scams where they get 100's of users to all vote off different ip addresses etc.

In terms of his market, i guess he's possibly a big name version of dave pearce in essence, maybe appealing to more commercial market in the uk, ask anyone who knows a good background about EDM and they will slate him, and they cant understand why he's headlining some gigs such as godskitchen, mainly due to musical choice and bad mixing, personally i think thats got a lot to do with mixing on the fly and rushing them, and not preparing the mix and taking time on it, i in the headphones, before the final mix and playing it live......

Contrary to what people say about music and mixing though, iv heard it many a times said that he's still a legend in terms of the scene and still despite his age one of the most energetic dj's behind the decks out there.
