All sounds fair enough to me. At least you are getting some bookings doing what you really love. I guess really I see why you dont want to play warm up sets but getting offered them isn't so much an issue. You can pick and choose which gigs to play but its always nice to be offered stuff anyway even if you dont want to do it. I dont really buy any music purely to DJ which I dont actually like to listen to at home. However I do have a pretty wide taste in music which covers ground beyond trance or house for that matter. This does enable me to DJ for quite a variety of events at times and I tend to do it so long as its something I'll enjoy. If I can earn a bit of cash for a night as well then I dont mind buying a few extra tracks that I wouldn't normally play to cater for the event. I do agree with you though in that personally I would love to play full on trance sets to crowds that loved it as much as me. I dont think I could beat that feeling playing any other type of music.

Indeed. Ive ended up DJing at events where they want non dance music as well. Depending on the crowd and atmposphere these can be pretty good fun to do as well but admittedly they could also be pretty dire. But hey why not give it a go. It's the DJing itself I love as much as the music Im playing - sometimes more. haha

Another set ive got on tape somewhere - although I only had last 90 minutes. Thanks for this one guys as always. Interesting those comments about the Dark Moon mix of Marc et Claude - I Need Your Lovin. I have this mix on Alphabet City and Im sure its the one he plays in this set - I never heard Jules play any other mix of it. He did seem to play a version of the Dark moon mix with a longer intro than the one I have - the bit with the piano and vocal at the begining before the beats come in. Im not sure if that one ever got released but apart from that slight difference the rest of the track is the same mix Im sure.

I have to agree with most of the replies here that whilst a warm up set may not be ideal for your style, its definitely worth having a go at. Personally I love all the boshy tech trance and peak time tunes the best as well and at home I'm always mixing those sorts of sets. However the only live sets I ever seem to get offered are either warm up sets or house/electro sets in bars. I have generally always gone for it and played these sets even though they aren't where I want to get to eventually because I still love DJing and part of that has to be getting the right reaction from the people your playing to. I have found much to my surprise that I can really enjoy playing a house set if thats what the punters on the night want - its not my main style and I dont even buy much of it unless I have a gig coming up but I still try to get as into it as possible. You also never know what will happen. I recently DJ'd at Derby University for their graduation ball as a last minute booking. I had been asked to play house/electro stuff but was given a bit of freedom to take it where I wanted as long as people were into it. In a 2 hour set I managed to take it from comercial house into trance classics, eventually raising the bpm from 130 to 140 but kept the crowd the whole time by picking the right tunes. To be fair they were a bunch of drunk students but the point is I had a great time playing that set but when I was first offered it my initial reaction was to think it wouldn't be a great gig and potentially more hassle than it would be worth... but I was wrong... dont be afraid to try it mate!

Probably my favourite mix CD of all time.. so so good. This show was also great though. It was right at the time I started buying vinyls and some of the first tunes I ever bought are on here - was listening to it at work the other day on the iPod - loads of great tunes.

Yeah I like this one mate. seems to have a good structure all round. I would probably play it in a set. Maybe something extra could be done to the main riff or breakdown but Im not really sure what to suggest as Ive never even tried to make a tune. I think overall its a goodun tho.

Just had a listen. The DJ Garry tune is "My Own Kind of Style" Looking at the release on Discogs there is a mix of it called Fluffy Melody. Perhaps thats what was written on the original tracklist. Interesting Jules is only just playing 4-Strings - Into The Night [Re-Ward Mix] - I thought perhaps it was an update of the remix done last year but sounds the same as the one ive got to me. Great remix though none the less. I also enjoyed the new Calvin Harris tune, Ernesto vs Bastian, Need to feel loved, Melodia - Phoenix (will atkinson), heatbeat The second hour of the show was very good in fact.

Ive not used Nero to be honest. I use Adobe Audition and with that when you click save as... there is an "options" icon next to the filename. If you click this when saving to MP3 you can specify the bit rate. Perhaps try looking for a similar icon, or properties settings somewhere. 96k seems very low so I would have thought it can be changed.

Ive got this on tape somewhere but many thanks for this upload - will get this on the iPod straight away. Ive been looking for one of the tunes on this set for years - "The Advent - Sketch" Anyone know the actual mix thats on this set? there are several vinyls on Disgogs by "The Advent" with various name variations of sketch. I just dont know which is the one.

I will be buying this album for the collection having got most of Jules' albums/productions over the years. I reckon these tracks could grow on me but I dont know alot of them very well yet. I remember hearing Laid Bare, The skip and master breaker all in one set about 2 years ago!! That heatbeat remix of the headstrong one sounds wicked but then heatbeat are just awesome at the moment. Think I will go out and buy this tomorrow. Im assuming its available in shops as well as being on itunes this week?

I actually prefer the perfecto mix of Mansun - I Can Only Disappoint you.... anyone else like that tune?
