  2. I'm selling my EFX 500 since I use traktor scratch now, and dont really use the effects on the EFX that much.

I dont really need to tell you what it can do, cause anyone that might want to buy it will know what its capable of

Its in perfect condition, its nearly 2 years old and has never left my bedroom nor does it have any scratches.

Leaving it go for a handy price too, so if you're interested send me a PM ;)

  3. If you're into your gadgets and can afford it then Id def recommend getting one. Best gadget i've bought so far  There's just sooo many cool apps for it, it really baffles me sometimes the stuff you can find on it.

  4. The prices for all Pioneer's stuff is way more now than a year ago anyway. I got my pair of 1000 Mk3's for 1500... the 2000 is nearly this much for one unit!!

I couldn't justify the upgrade at all. I'm quite happy to stick with burning CDs for now. The problem with all these MP3 units etc is the possibility for DJ's that dont understand bit rates of MP3's to start building huge libraries of crap quality MP3's and then arriving at a club with them all crammed on to a USB stick and sounding s*** through a decent sound system.

Here's hoping people will at least keep all their music at 320kbps and not compromise on the sound quality.

I think most djs would usually ensure that the quality of their tracks would be top notch when burning to cd anyway, so dont see the difference with mp3's?

  6. Genix at Passion states on their website that if they can see that CD's have had some effort put into them with a good sleeve and track markers, etc, then they stand a good chance of being listened too.

It makes sense really. Your demo CD is like your CV - its your chance to make an impression. If your were an interviewer, would you read the smart, professional looking CV, or the one that has been written on a piece of tatty A4 paper that has bene half-eaten by someones dog? If someone gave you a smart, professional looking CD, or one in just a clear plastic sleeve with "Jack Jones Demo CD" in black permanent pen written on it, you'd obviously go for the one that has had some effort put into it?

Download a 30 demo of Adobe Illustrator, and make the most of it before it runs out - you can create some really slick, professional graphics with that which look the muts nuts! Its the software that graphics companies use to create flyers and posters - so thats how powerful it is :D

I beg to differ, in my experience promoters will be more interested in hearing what kinda music you have on the cd rather than how fkn good your artistic talents are.. Its not an art competition you're entering!

  8. I want a Macbook. My next laptop will be one of those!

I suggest Traktor Scratch Duo or Pro. I cant comment on Virtual Vinyl as i've never used it, so i'd go with either Traktor or Serato as they are the standard now - you wont be disappointed with either.

I used to use Serato before i switched to Traktor. Serato is very good, its in a lot of the clubs too, but i find its more geared towards hip-hop scratch DJ's. I do however, really like the interface, its very user friendly and the keyboard shortcuts are so quick you dont have to spend time looking at the laptop. It is limited though. The looping is beat perfect and the Scratch Live soundcard to me, sounded "muddy". That said, it very lite, you dont need a big laptop to run it. I used to run it on my existing laptop which is a gig ram and an intel duo core processor, and it ran a dream on low latency.

Traktor is definately geared to the house/trance/techno dj. It has elements to it that are very similar to Ableton. I dont use any syncing or beatgridding myself, and i turn the (very accurate) beatcounters off - but those features are there if you want them. With Traktor you can also have 4 decks on the go at once all synced. The main feature i use in Traktor is the looping. It's so damn accurate (it uses beatgrids - check youtube) and you can beatmix with the loops - they are that accurate, they dont waver either. So good. The interface is also very nice. The sound card sounds a lot better than Serato's too, it's nice and loud, and very sharp. Traktor does require a more powerful laptop, mine runs it well, but i've got the latency on "medium". Traktor, is now popping up in a lot more clubs too (or ones that i play anyway).

There so much to go into, i'd strongly recommend you check Youtube on both. There some realy good intuitive vids on there.

What's the difference between Traktor Scratch Pro and Traktor Scratch Duo mate do ya know at all??
