Labels taking too long to release material?

What are people's opinions on this? I'm not trying to slate the record labels in any way if they release quality music - nor am I against the teasing white labels with minimal info to stir up interest - but I feel some labels are missing a trick by not releasing their material after it has had considerable exposure, and thus when it is finally released, it isn't as appealing as it doesn't appear as 'fresh' as it could have been had it come out earlier. What do others think?

I've been quite vocal on my annoyance at labels doing this, particularly Anjuna & Black Hole. Those two labels are not ones that i'd slate they both release superb tunage, but both mess around far too much which is why i find myself buying less of their stuff. 'Helsinki Scorchin' is a record i waited for since August but won't bother getting now cos it's taken so long to be released, the same goes for a lot of Black Hole stuff. I much prefer Armada's release schedule as they get their tunes out faster but still manage to delay them long enough to gain the anticipation.

Yean signing stuff up and draggin it out for 6 months can be annoying! that said there was this un that Jules played August last year and has yet to surface and I only ever heard it once! its er... on Mondo er.. calledmy love by er.... can't remember!

I'm not buying Helsinki Scorchin as its been played to bloodey death and ive gone off it after starting to like it.

Totally agree with you Tim and Tom ( ).

I get sick of waiting on stuff to come out (eg Nimrod) and often get so sick of the tune that when it does come out, I've lost interest. However, tunes do come out for download, generally, quicker and thats was one of the main reasons I got a cdj.

Unfortunately digital is the way forward, although I found it quite amusing when I saw someone list an MP3 of Tracking Treasure Down on Discogs :?

I'd still much rather own the vinyl of any tune, but if the labels insist on making me wait a stupidly long time, then its their loss (and the artist) in the end :(

There are some terrible offenders though in both formats, Andy G (trancemixers) who also posts on here occasionaly is a CD only DJ, but lately there have been an awful lot of records that i'm playin that don't get a digital release at all?!? Leama & Moor 'Everything Matters' had a limited vinyl release through Lost Language so he cannot get hold of it at all.

You would have thought that labels would wise up and at least manage to release records in digital form if they're pressing vinyls too.

Digital only labels i understand as its clearly gona be much cheaper to sell tunage that way, especially with tracks that aren't gona be huge sellers. Conspiracy Deep works solely as a digital label (which pisses me off immensely) but i can see why they'd do it as their particular tunage isn't ever gona translate to huge sales.

i agree with all the comments above, its bulls***.

As jason mentioned - Digital Delay - my Love - i actually forgot about thsi tune until it was just mentioend, im after this so badly but it takes the piss!

Why get dj's to play them so early if they know that they are not going to be released for such a long period of time? a joke really isn;t it!!

I agree. I thought the whole point of releasing a tune was to make money. :?

Impatient, hearing summat that was signed and being played 7-8 months ago?!!! it seems even anjuna and co sign t fockers for ages seem to sit on them before relasing them! they got too much to release? doesnt seem that way with Mondo!

Granted they wana promo them a fair bit first off to generate the interest so that people are chompin at the bit when they come out to get them straight away, but the fact that Anjuna take so long is detrimental to their sales anyway.

Recently Chemical have seen sales of Anjuna stuff drop markedly. This is almost certainly due to them taking the piss with release dates. As a result the last 4 or so Anjuna releases are available on Chemical at about £4 sale prices cos they can't get rid of em.

That maybe to do with downloads as well :?

Too true, but chemical aren't really reducing other labels releases? And i reckon if they got the vinyl out in time then they wouldn't have to reduce em at all.

Or maybe Chemical's purchaser gets a bit excited when dealing with Anjuna?
