Knowing the immense wealth of techinical skill on this board   ..............

My default player for windows Xp has for some reason switched to real-player. I dont like this as my version of realplayer seems to crash real easy. I had a virus a while back which has totally f****d my computer. Firstly, how do I change back to media player as my default and secondly, why when I select to specifically open with media player does my computer now spring up a box loading the track before mediaplayer is open. Beofre it used to just open media player instantly, then load the track within.

Totally confused???? :?

hmm, i don't understand that bit about the box popping up...

But for your preferences, all u have to do is open media player, go into file - open up the option or preferences and look for file types - shoudl bring up a list of file types with check boxes next to em, make sure they are all checked and that shud restore media player as your default player

had a similar problem like this before, only with winamp and media player. I use winamp as my default player and media player (using microsoft monopoly technology) changed my settings...

for anything you want to associate default files, applications with etc...

open my computer > tools > folder options > file types

here lists all file types associated on your computer, if you want to change things, for example, i use internet explorer to view jpegs, then change it here :D

The knowledge on here is always great :D

Uberduck possibly the reason you got a virus was because you were downloading too much pornography? RealPlayer is a load of bollocks as well - it hi-jacks all the file extensions to make you use it. Why oh why did the BBC choose it as its default media medium?
