Briggsy
Did anyone hear the Cut Up Boys show on Saturday after Trevor Nelson? Apparently there was a guest mix by Judge Jules I've checked out Jules's Radio 1 page, but as per, there's no tracklisting yet. I'm just curious as to whether it was an old stylee outdoor broadcast with two hours of mixing, or whether it was a "studio" style outdoor broadcast (which is pointless IMO). Also, what was the question for the guestlist competition - was it "What city is Turnmills in"?? I'm sure I hear that question every week
Quadrant
I like your humour Mr Briggsy! It's no longer Jules' show is it really. Of course it wasn't a two-hour old-stylee broadcast - that would be far too easy and leave the production team with nothing to do. So it looks as if they tried to complicate it a bit more, which they did successfully, and with the implementation of "studio" session taking up some of the live time. I think I've heard that guestlist question before as well... think it will become a running joke on here now. Stuart F
I have to say on Saturday though, I thought the backstage part of the show set the scene nicely to follow onto the live outdoor action. Always interests me the way they produce the show being involved with radio myself.
Briggsy
I've always been interested in radio and wish i'd gone down that route when I left school. Too late now though I'm not sure if i've got the right voice for radio anyway - but i've certainly got the face for it

I think we've all admitted to that on here at some point or another. Bring back Friday nights!

Sorry but l disagree. Seeing as it was only a 2hr show l think the whole show should have come live from up on the stage. Also l think RI should have knocked Westward on the head for that Sat and continued with either Dave Pearce, Eddie or Fergie or some other dance DJ and broadcasted for the entire evening. It makes sense. Afterall when RI cover Glastonbury Jules's show is normally cancelled.
bigsteve
Yep, I agree Chrissie. I have to come to accept the 1st 30 mins backstage, but Jules could have had at least 90 minutes live
Max Kane
Jules even referred to this a little with his opening few comments about being back stage and not having as much fun as he could have had playin live all the way thru
Neuro
A great little thread this, and a good title as well I guess the advice to us radio fans is if we don't like the way Jules' live shows are aired, we're just gonna have to go there ourselves! Chrissie Brown
Yes Tim I fully endorse that course of action. When Jules did his R1 show "live" from Fistral Beach in Newquay last August Jules was on the stage for the entire 2 hrs. There was the usual "cut up mix" but no 30 min backstage chit chat. Instead the radio listeners heard Jules talk briefly to various people about the Boardmasters Surfing Competition that was taking place on Fistral beach. Both Aza and l were there (separately) and there are 2 lengthy threads about this fantastic day including our reports. http://www.judgejulesarchive.co.uk/board/v...topic.php?t=303 http://www.judgejulesarchive.co.uk/board/v...topic.php?t=

I'm not saying the backstage part is my preferred way of doing the show but I thought Saturday's backstage part was quite good. Excellent tunes plus a good interview with Colours resident Jon Mancini. All in all, it was brilliant audio accompaniment while I was cutting the grass in the garden on Saturday evening I would rather a full 2 hour live broadcast straight from the outdoor stage though with the final 30 minutes dedicated to a guest DJ at the same stage. The atmosphere sounded amazing and then when they switched to Sander's recorded set from the main arena, the crowd mics were not set as high and it felt a bit flat which I'm sure was not the case in the arena. I also agree that Westwood should have been scrapped for the night. In fact, I can't remember who but one of the Radio 1 DJs (either Jules or Trevor Nelson I think) mentioned that Westwood was sandwiched in between the shows from Coloursfest and that was so true. All in all though, a superb show which I thoroughly enjoyed!

Which backs up my complaint to the BBC that their scheduling is a joke. Dance shows sandwiched between Urban music, and vice versa makes no sense at all. bigsteve
Stuart, the main arena could well have been quiet for SVD. The queues were so long it was ridiculous, and SVD was on pretty early (7 I think) and after the main arena only opening at 6. We stumbled in at 6.30 and there was just a splattering of people in there. btw, didn't SVD 'blend' well into Westwood on Saturday

Quadrant
Perhaps the new format has been scrapped after only two weeks after our lobbying on here... although with SvD they did bring back the Saturday Night Mix didn't they, after all?
Briggsy
Don't be daft - since when would they listen to our thoughts - those of a Judge Jules fan. We're scum remember?
