Max Kane Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Bets not to pre-plan too much mate, just load your bag with a variety of sounds and trial and error will see how things go, if you start off funky & no1 likes it take it harder. It's all about findign a balance at house parties most of the time people just settle for a mixture of tunage. Vocal stuff tends to work well as long as it isn't too cheesy. Quote

Tremor Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 sounds like good advice to me tom. it all depends on what type of event it is or if its a club what type of audience etc but its always best to take a full variety so your options are left open. Quote
Marty Mayes Posted June 7, 2006 Author Posted June 7, 2006 il b taking loads of different things with me i just dont really want 2 go over the top!! a few funky tracks 2 warm up then c how the mood is then try a little trance an c were things go from there il mostly b using cds so if any 1s any tunes they think il go down well let me no and if i dont already have i shall download 8-) Quote
bigsteve Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Yeah, good idea to take as much as you can (the benfits of CDs ) Are you playing in a club or at a party? Like has been said above, start with a few funky ones and you should be able to gauge from the reaction to them, how you might go from there. Funky stuff will get the girls dancing, which in turn leads the guys up! How to keep them there is the hard bit, but welcome requests to start with and play them as soon as you can otherwise you will get bombarded with repeat requests for the same tune. An hour in and you should have a good idea what people want to hear, so the hard bit's done. Most of all, enjoy it 8-) (and remember to let us know how it went  ) Quote
dormouse Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Faithless 'Insomnia' always goes down well with any crowd, I've learnt that lesson. Quote
Aza Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 definately... try to integrate one or two that everyone will love. even if it is a remix of something charty etc. one good memory was playing ron beuken - clokx. insomia i agree with 8-) Quote

Max Kane Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 As i said above mate just take as many records (CDs) as you can so you can cover all bases, it's important not to pre-plan it too much though, have some tunes that you know will work if the crowd is flagging like 'Insomnia' and maybe a few big funky tunes (sorry i have no knowledge of funky house) Just try and read the crowd and keep em on the floor, thats the essence of DJing really and what separates good from bad DJs Quote
HIGGZY Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 I cant speak for everyone but House tunes that really get me going at the beging of a night espesially when I know i could here some good Trance later in the evening are; (not sure what sub genre of house these would come under) C-Mos - 2 Million Ways (Axwell Remix) The Egg - Walking Away (Tocadisco remix) Rune - Calabria A-Studio feat Polina - SOS (Vertigo Vocal Remix) Haji & Emanuel - take Me Away (Vocal Mix) Josh Wink - Higher state Of Conciousness (2005 house Remix) M.a.n.d.y Vs. Booka Shade - Body Language Reflekt Feat. Delline Bass - Need to Feel Loved (Fuzzy Hair Remix) Quote
Max Kane Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Late Night Alumni stuff seems to be going off at the moment aswell mate particularly 'Empty Streets' Quote

Neuro Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 I'm extremely concerned that you're trying to pre-plan this too much... as Tom said, take a variety of stuff and decide on the night what works best - feel the floor, feel the atmosphere, and gauge it accordingly. Quote
Marty Mayes Posted June 8, 2006 Author Posted June 8, 2006 i will do m8 il let u no how it goes FIRE IT UP!!! Quote
JasonB Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 What works for one person might not work for another, depends on the night, what the people there are up for etc... I'd never plan a club set just take a large mixture of stuff I reckon might be right (depending on what info ws gievn about the shindig before hand). Quote

Quadrant Posted June 9, 2006 Posted June 9, 2006 Take 16 strobe lighting packages and play some hardcore No, DON'T do that - get some House music in there, some Joey Negro or something, get a groove going - then maybe slip in some trance and they might like it! That's what I've done in the past. Quote
