Quadrant
What a match... though the Russian geezer ruined it by making a yellow card worthless. Once he dished the cards out from almost the first minute, a yellow card meant nothing and people were bound to throw themselves about. Apparently this match held the World Cup record for number of cards in a match, with 16 yellows and 4 reds - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/w...006/5103886.stm

Max Kane
Bit of a joke really this match, still at least the good ol' Russian ref (Ivanov) saw to it that whoever won would be missing a couple of players for when they play us on saturday
Bjorn
yeh thats true, plus it looks like ronaldo will be out cos of his injury and Figo yet may be banned for the afore mentioned 'head-butt'

Neuro
Yes if the ref punishes something on the pitch, it cannot be reviewed afterwards; Figo was given a yellow for the head-butt, even though the referee was facing the other way :?
Wilson
Some of the diving in this match was exceptional, was a total joke. How he managed to book and send that number of players off is wierd, cuz it wasn't even a dirty match. We've got half a chance against them. bigsteve
I felt for the Aussies yesterday too. Should never have been a penalty, but Italy were the better side. And as for the Switzerland-Ukraine game! They could have not bothered with 120 minutes of play and just had a penalty shoot-out

They could have not bothered with 120 minutes of play and just had a penalty shoot-out Aussie can only blame themselves. As soon as Matterazi was sent off it was clear how the Italians would play, Aus should have gone for it more instead of being nervy about conseeding and they would have won through, it wasn't a penalty but Neil shouln't have given the full back any chance to go with that wreckless lunge when he was going nowhere. Totti's pen was also top notch, unstoppable Swiss vs Ukr was dour, two boring teams with no ambition playing for penalties, i really do dread the next round when Ukr play Italia could be the most boring game ever if Italy score early and sit back.
