I don't think Jules is under threat to be honest. I think there's something in the wind anyway, and had been ever since Jules "groomed" Eddie Halliwell to become a radio DJ.

I think Jules and Radio 1 may have had a chat a couple of years ago about Eddie being his eventual successor. Jules is 40, and he hints frequently on his online diary that he's not going to be DJ'ing in clubs in another 10 years time.

Jules may do another 2 or 3 years on his Saturday slot, before he "swaps" with Halliwell and takes more of a "John Peel" approach in Eddie's current timeslot. Jules has an ear for up and coming producers, so why not give him a "John Peel" kind of show where he plays tunes by up and coming producers should the day comes where he hangs up his club DJ'ing headphones?

Eddie wouldn't be where he is today without the support of Judge Jules on many of his radio shows. Jules has also given Fabio Stein his big break this year, has helped raise the profile of Karl G and AJS with his support of their tunes.

Jules may have lost some of his mixing ability, but he's still got an ear for knowing who can conquer the scene.

Deffo agree with some of the points there Briggsy...

Jules' name alone is almost like a brand, thus anything he offers support to usually gets recognised. Ive spoke to him in the past about Halliwell and he has said that Eddie was already resident at Gatecrasher before intending to sign him up. But I doubt Eddie would be where he is without Jules.

Cheers Aza, i got the emails saying about it aswell. Im really impressed with Radio 1 this year bringing djs like Eddie Halliwell and Kutski to do shows. I think it brings a really fresh approach to new music as i feel things didnt change for a long time with just djs like Pete tong and Judge Jules doing them. Looks like im only gonna be getting 4 hours sleep for work from listening to it.

Anyone check this out? I just listened again & boy what a show! Original Eddie stuff with plenty of trancers. Kicked off the show with a few funky tunes, which I think he has adapted from his residency show.

Loving the full fire mix, anyone know what mix of Second Bite was played? Very good and sounds like a sort of Loops & Tings tune...

It's a bit annoying really that Eddie had to dedicate the best part of his show to another DJ, i don't really think that JOOF's style is in keeping with the normal musical direction of the show either

Yeah, I hope they don't start making Eddie's show as farcical as Jules's.

Do Radio 1 really need to introduce "guest" mixes from other established DJ's into specialist shows when they've already got the Essential Mix for playing other random DJ's.

If Radio 1 really want to squeeze more dance DJ's onto the station, then why not launch another dance-only station so that DJ's such as Eddie and Jules can do proper shows without having to incorporate other crap so that a dodgy rap DJ can take over "seamlessly" from Trance

Whilst I admire Radio 1 for bringing us all this dance music and good DJ's, I still can't help but think their scheduling is all wrong. Good to see our complaints earlier in the year were taken notice of eh chaps?

With Eddie coming in, they had the perfect opportunity to switch Westwood's show to a Thursday night, with Eddie taking over from Jules at 9pm - but no, that'd work too well as a schedule.

Eddie will lose some listeners because a lot of them will be in bed at that time ready for work the next morning, whereas it wouldn't have affected Westwoods's listeners because none of his listeners have jobs. They can have a lie in on Friday because all their doing is visiting their mates in Prison that were sent down for gun crime

Fantastic comment if a little stereotypical.

R1 is all about compromise really, they try & skim as much of the audience as possible without commiting one way or another to a specialist sound. I only tune in for the shows i want to listen to or use listen again anyway so their schedule issues don't really fuss me, though i do hate the way that DJs are expected to pander to other genres.

Oh yeah & why the hell do we have to endure an hour of Scott 'I'm a twat' Mills playing 'dance music' (and i use the term losely) on a friday!

Totally agree. I switch off as soon as Westward comes on.

LOL! It was made with tongue-in-cheek, although you've gotta admit, it is slightly realistic.

Which is more likely to listen to Westwood? - a gun weilding gangster in Brixton, or a 40 year old businessman listening on his Laptop via the Wi-Fi system in Virgin Trains's first class department on the London Euston - Glasgow express?

If none of those, then it could just be a load of tone-deaf, wannabe gangsters, that don't actually realise that Westwood is a 40 year old white man with nothing better to do other than talk in a silly voice about dropping bombs and playing joints.

Another idea could have been to swap Trevor Nelson's Saturday show with Pete Tong's Friday show, so that Radio 1 had Trevor Nelson followed by Westwood on a Friday (Urbans Fridays), and Tong followed by Jules on a Saturday - with Eddie possibly on after Jules to give us Dance Saturdays.

Then Sundays we've got Dangerous Dave followed by the nob-rot clinic (or Sunday Surgery - whatever its called).

Fergie's show was a pre-record 99.9% of the time & i'm quite sure that Jules used to pre-record virtually all of his Friday night shows too, unless they were live broadcasts.

I've got used to the idea that R1 aren't going to have an efficient schedule, i generally use listen again if i deem anything worth checking out anyway nowadays

I've given up on R1 now and rarely listen to a thing. Internet radio shows are the way forward: TATW (A&B with a 30 min guest mix), ASOT (a full 2 hour Armin set) and the various guys on here (Christian, Dormouse, Stuart, Tom, etc) all keep me happily entertained throughout the week
