Bjorn
Well, where to start? Im absolutely shattered, got to bed at 8am this morning, such a wikked night tho! Started off with a pre-party at a mates house with about 20 of us, i took my decks and had a good session to get everyone going! Went to crasher and we went our usual time and it was rammed already! Like sardines again! Just walked in to hear Tall Paul's new remix of cafe del mar, which aint half bad tbh, but i do disagree with it on principal.. Tall Pauls' set was ok i suppose, nothing brilliant tho. It was MIKE who got me going, playing some fantastic prog/tech tunes, including: Marcel Woods - Cherry Blossom 2006 Best tune he played (and tune of the night for me) was Hammer & Bennet - Language (Santiago Nino Dub Tech Mix) - such a wikked tune, oldish but still does the business! He also played a couple of misplaced house tunes...hmm - Doppelwhipper & Mason - Exceeder.. Onto Ottaviani, who was pretty good - played all the expected tune - Exactly, Linking People, Through Your Eyes (cool vid of that here: updated shortly ), until monday (mac & mac remix) - tune! Didn't recognise a lot of it tho, but was nice and tidy and had the crowd going well! Next up was of course jules... Now jules always seems to do the trick with me - i think its down to the tunes he plays more than anything else really. He started off tho like i said i nthe other thread with bloody 4 Fabio productions i na row..grr!! Built his set quite nicely tho after that, but he made a few mistakes - left a channel open and jus ta couple dodgy mixes.. Tunes he played were... Re:Locate - Alcatraz - CHOON! Rank 1 & Morph - Life Less Ordinary Abel Ramos Vs Josh Wink - Electro State Marco V Vs. Fatboy Slim - Red Purple Blue Vs. Star 69 (wikked this was, with the 'what is what, what the f***' vox over the top) Martin Roth - Yello Booty - (mash up of Yello - Oh Yeah (SVD Remix, well cool) Crowd Killaz - Mr Brightside Fred Baker - Lunar Eclipse Team Sr - Leaving London (oh suprise - i told u briggsy!) KS - Just a Swarm (nice 1 again mate!) Joshua Ryan Vs Marcel Woods - Cherry whip 4 Strings - Take Me Away (4 Strings Remix) E-Love - Vrantique All was going well, until the last 15 mins where he went a bit wierd and seemed to cram in a lot of tunes, however the set had built up nice & techy for sander but then jules played Exceeder as his last tune.... Seriously, what are u doing jules, its a house tune - it does not go i na trance set! Me & tremor just looked at each other when he put it on... Ah well, next up was SVD who probably was my fav fro mthe night, a combination and excellent mixing, a superbly built set and fantastic tunes! He played (that i can remember): 4 Strings - Take Me Away (Mac Zimms Remix) - loving this more than ever! CSI - Direkt Dizko (Svd Remix) Armin - Control Freak (SVD Remix) Aalto - 5 Armin feat Racoon - Love You More Emjay - Real High (AK 47 Remix) Rank 1 & Morph - Life Less Ordinary Tiesto - Dance For Life (SVD Remix at a guess!) last tune was of course... SVD Vs Artics Monkeys - Sun Goes Down - such a tune, filthy filthy tune! We all left (well, who was left, haha) finally got to bed at 8am. A wikked night, got sum photos here, rest of them are here: http://www.dontstayin.com/uk/sheffield/gat...ry-132929/paged [/img]
bigsteve
Good report and well done on the memory front Ottaviani's set sounds wicked and he's deffo at the top of my 'to see' list. Shame about Julesy (I can't believe he's still spinning Leaving London) and not a very innovative tracklist. Exceeder would have been awful to finish on. Good pics and glad you had a good night 8-)
Bjorn
cheers mate! Well the crowd went mental went he played exceeder. i was NOT impressed. ah well, i enjoyed it all, everyone had a wikked time and even my missus lasted right until the end (unlike many of my mates who f***ed off home the lightweights!) Gregg
I absolutely LOVED Jules' set. He played so many quality tracks in 1h 15mins. His beatmatching was unusually off, but that didn't spoil the excellent set structure he put out. I thought it was one of the most enjoyable sets I've heard this year. Maybe it was due to all the poo I had to listen to before Guiseppe's set. Tall Paul should really have been given a later slot and told to play trance! House music in the main room just does not work! MIKE was poor, I've never been a fan of his DJing, but he's getting worse. He played a few good tunes toward the end. His new tune is good - MIKE Salvation (PUSH Remix). I don't know why, but I hate SvD sets. Looking at the tracks above I like those tunes, but I think he should never be allowed to DJ again. I walked out before the end when his noise was offending my ears! Every set I've heard him play has been poor. Jules played a proper techno track just before the dogzilla remix of the ones we love. anyone know what it was called? i went a bit mental to that. Gregg
Jules is always good at Crasher I think. Maybe he plays his ass off as it was his residency for so long when Crasher was at its peak. A lot of people who constantly slate him should realise it was probably due to him that Gatecrasher was so successful, as he was top of his game at the time. Quadrant
Nice pictures Bjorn, no silly pink t-shirts I see? For how long was Jules resident there out of interest?
Gregg
Not entirely sure of the dates, but he was resident when i started going at Easter 1998 through til at least the end of 2000.
bigsteve
In his tour diary this week he answers the question: The next port of call was Gatecrasher in Sheffield, the club that has been closest to my heart over the past ten years. I was bi-weekly resident between 1999 and 2002, and have played consistently at ‘Crasher for much longer
