Uberduck
Damm these beholders of music . I used to run my pod off my old mans computer but since moving out a year and a half ago I haven't had chance to get my own computer and get it sunning off that until now. I have installed I-tunes on my laptop but when plugging my pod into the comuter I was confused as to why it hasn't added all the tracks on my pod to the library? It has asked my to verify that I'm using a new computer and added tunes I've bought on I-tunes but not any other tracks. I dont get how I'm supposed to do this operation??? Anyone had the same problem?
bigsteve
Tbh, I choose not to add all my music into iTunes' library. I drag and drop into iTunes the music I want to.
Aza
How does the Ipod organise the tracks? My girlfriend has got a sony walkman - 6gb, and you have bloody put ID3 tags on there for it 2 sort em out. Does the Ipod do the same, or can you just get it automatically sort em going on what the artist and title of track is?
bigsteve
It depends on what info is with the file already. eg your latest mix, Aza, had the tags all set up (good lad ) whereas the mixes I download from Tom I have to re-tag to get the iPod to sort them correctly. I generally search by genre on my iPod so I always make sure that is correct.

bigsteve
I like mine, but certainly not worth the money. Much cheaper products that do the same job

You need to have tags on em to have them stored on the device correctly, otherwise it just chucks em in Other or Various I guess? With newer stuff, I like to make sure about these tags, but many of my vinyl rips I didnt assign tags too
Neuro
iPods don't like being associated with more than 1 computer's iTunes at a time - I would recommend going back to your old man's PC with a free days and a wad of blank CDs...
Uberduck
Apparently you cant sync your pod to two Itunes Library so I've had to scrap and start again! Frustrated would be an understatement...

JasonB
If I were to get a mp3 player I'd look at a creative 1gig jobby I think to start off with.
bigsteve
I've heard other people rave about the Creative ones too. Can't offer any first hand experience, but iPod prices are based around their 'trendability.' If you still want trendability, buy a Creative mp3 player and buy some iPod earphones, so you get the white lead and make people think you have an iPod
Wakey
My mum's got a Creative MP3 player and I think it's very good. You can also get the radio on it (i think?!) which is cool. I've hand an ipod for about 3 and a half years and never had any problems with it. Nearly filled the 20GB i think.
Chrissie Brown
Do you know what make it is. (the one your mum's got.) I'm not bothered about what it looks like, l just want something good that does the job.
Bjorn
for ipods genius is its simplicity. So so easy to use and so good - i love my ipod! The only trip up it has is the f***ing software - itunes is so s***. Did my head in trying to put music on my old girlfriends ipod - proper nightmare... Got my library all sorted tho - its a picture of perfection!

Did my head in trying to put music on my old girlfriends ipod - proper nightmare... Got my library all sorted tho - its a picture of perfection! I detest iTunes passionately as it's very easy to think all your tracks are labelled and organized perfectly, when in fact they all over the place on your hard drive within layers of anonymous folders which it created without asking. All iTunes is is a portal of links to files, so if you move any of those files outside of iTunes, it can't find it. Grrrr!!

I once made the mistake of doing that and every single track in iTunes that was stored on my hard drive generated a ? next to it. Aaargh. It didnt stop them working but I have [minor] obsessive compulsive dissorder when dealing with Itunes. It has a better organisation than the Brittish Library!! I get well frustrated using other peoples pods that are un-organised! I just want to clean them up.
Wakey
lol! I do like the way iTunes comes across as being organised but know exactly what you mean about having tracks here there and everywhere. I try to sort out my tunes into folders then add them to iTunes. Still have loads of different folders on my computer tho!

Uberduck
I've had to dig this thread out again as my pod is playing silly buggers again. I have an album I bought of iTunes on there and for some reason it has decided to skip some of the tracks whilst playing the album. It doesn't do this in iTunes but when listening to the pod either through earphones or my fm transmitter, it does. Apple are w*** at customer service and their website just doesnt allow you to contact them to request help, it only has 'suggestions' or a link to some crappy forum where all the questions people have posted are unanswered. I've tried removing it from iTunes and re-installing and also changing the sequence they are played in too but no joy. This is just food for the iPod anti's on this site really Any ideas? TheSaint
Reset your iPod: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705 Update it to the latest software (download the latest iTunes) and then re-add your library. ------------------------------------ If anyone out there ever has problems with syncing their iPod with more than one library then just change their iPod update preference to 'manual'. This way you can plug it into any computer running iTunes and drag and drop music into the iPod. Its the way I and most of my friends do it
