Uberduck
As I dont listen to daytime radio the recent Radio1 'One Big Weekend' lineup had slipped my attention. Just having a browse over the R1 website when EEEKKK. What possessed them to arrange such a lineup: Westwood Mista Jam Seamus Haji Meck Groove Armada (DJ Set) JUDGE JULES Tim Deluxe Vs Simon Franks (Audio Bullys) Simian Mobile Disco Annie Mac Freemasons and, Oh.... Meck (Again???) Please someone throw a bucket of coldwater over me as I'm sure I'm hallucinating/dreaming. Who possessed themselves to put Jules in the middle of all that toss. I dont know whether thats the lineup in the order its going to be played on the night. I'd love to know Jules' opinin on this one. He surely must have scratched his head when they told him who else was playing. And why on earth are Groove Armada on the 'In New Music We Trust' stage? Is there a new Groove Armada that are using the same name as call me dumb but Groove Armada have been around as long as the Queen Mum. Some of the other 'Big Weekends' have had decent lineups i.e. Birmingham with Tiesto, Jules et al or the Manchester one with sets from Halliwell at Goodgreef. Why dont they just say "ok, lets scrap the dance music and have just bands". Holy mother of god  ...... I didnt see day two...... Bobby & Nihal Rob Da Bank Zane Lowe & Mark Ronson Klaxons DJ set Pete Tong and..... Vernon?? David Guetta Trophy Twins Fergie Tylor Leigh Dave Pearce I guess Jules' show is coming live and therefore they put him on a bill of Hip hop & house DJ's. Still a load of trash. Someone at radio1 needs to go and sit in a corner and think about what they've done.
Max Kane
I know that GoodGreef are doing the afterparty later on that night, with Jules & some mroe appetising DJs
Uberduck
Radio1 events just seem to be getting worse and worse. Gone are the days of free dance parties with lineups representative of whats big in the clubs along with DJ shows coming from good club nights and not having to accommodate DJ shows at the start/end of their shows. I guess this is the way of the world and that free dance parties pose a safety risk due to un-quantifiable numbers attending. DJ shows cannot now come from clubs due to the time they are now slotted at. Where has it all gone wrong
Wakey
What possessed them to arrange such a lineup:Westwood Mista Jam Seamus Haji Meck Groove Armada (DJ Set) JUDGE JULES Tim Deluxe Vs Simon Franks (Audio Bullys) Simian Mobile Disco Annie Mac Freemasons Bobby & Nihal Rob Da Bank Zane Lowe & Mark Ronson Klaxons DJ set Pete Tong and..... To be honest I don't think it's that awful, sure there's some people on there you perhaps wouldn't want to see, but then again think about Radio 1's target audience and the people they're trying to appeal to with their 1 Big Weekend. Just recently I've really gone off Radio 1 daytime inparticular. They seem to just be targetting themselves at 15/16 young teens who are quite 'chavvy'. JasonB
Meck, well hes got a new track out hasnt he so good promotion for that I spose, I've never rated Groove Aramda as Dj's although Cato is good solo. And Freemasons well they might as well just play a whole set of their own productions and/or remixes, nowt else they good for really I don't think. The line ups suited for whats in at the mo really or what R1 think.
bigsteve
Its certainly doesn't match the line-ups from previous years. At the end of the day its our licence fee that pays for it all and I guess they just don't have the funds big names like Tiesto anymore. I think they would be better focussing on bands for OBW, after all R1 in Ibiza is all about dance music.
Uberduck
Sorry, maybe I was a bit OTT with my dissaproval of this event. I'm not saying the DJ's are crap, just a bit of a funny mish-mash and to put Jules in the middle puzzles me. If he was playing a house set then that'd work out. TheSaint
that line-up is actually indicative to what is 'mainstream' in London. Those DJs are all over billboards in the west end and the ultra-edgy east end.
Briggsy
Simian Mobile Disco looks like the name of something you'd expect to find under "Wedding DJ's" in the Yellow Pages Seamus Hadji - Sounds like a centre forward for the Israel football team! Westwood - he actually should be a centre forward for the Israel football team. The further away from here, the better. Annie Mac - sound slike a new product from McDonalds. Its good to see all the hours DJ's are spending on name creativity these days
bigsteve
Incidentally, I caught Annie Mac on R1 last Friday night. WTF is her show all about? Any 'DJ' that encourages Terry's to go driving their Corsas round full of Terriettes should be shot. As for the music....
JasonB
I've never really seen the point of Annie Mac being on radio 1 at all, with the previous show she had or this one, its an anything goes show now which is nice but havent we alrady got Zane lowe and Colin Murray & that for that really? Max Kane
If enough people told Radio 1 that Quadrant was cool he'd probably be given a show, they have no thoughts for themselves it seems, they just whack on anyone with a unique accent & give them license to do whatever they like
bigsteve
they just whack on anyone with a unique accent & give them license to do whatever they like Unless your name is Jules and your producer is 'Kat.' On that note, I take it going to BBC6 is 'promotion.'
Wakey
I quite like Annie Mac's friday night show, I enjoy the mix of tunes that she plays, generally at the start of the show
Briggsy
If Kat is as miserable and moody as she was at Global Gathering all the time, then i'd say Radio 6 would be the appropriate station for her. She's rude and arrogant - at least, thats how she came across in the press area. I should think Jules is glad to see the back of her.
