England vs Brazil

I'm going to my local Irish bar tonight at 9pm for this - hopefully it will be competitive and a decent match!

Becks thoroughly deserves his recall as he has been in outstanding in recent matches for Real Madrid, all of which I've watched live here... just hope he carries on his precision into the team.

Apparently Brazil are going to try out some young names, and in our new stadium as well hopefully it's going to be a cracker :)

Predictions? Mine is a 2-2.

I'm with Tom - we'll get beaten.

I try to be patriotic, but in all honesty, we're s***.

Owen shouldn't be in the team - he's not played for a year.

We've got the old midfield of Lampard, Gerraard and Beckham back again, which is a bad thing. They're all supurb for they're club, but they can't adapt to international football. Lampard and Gerrard just don't come close to the same sort of form.

As for Beckham - he's handy, good at free kicks, and can hit a 50p from 3 miles away - but he leave sus exposed because he can't defend, and he doesn't take people on.

The midfield of Gerrard, Lampard and Beckham needs breaking up - it clearly doesn't work in my opinion.

1-1 in the end then. I think there were a few plus points and hence a few minuses.

I thought Owen looked short of pace and also Joe Cole was pretty poor in his final ball. Sorry but anoyone that try's and slags off Beckham after that needs to have a word with themselves. Thought he was pretty useful on the right and he did what he does best, set a goal up through a set piece.

Enough said.

Owen shouldn't have been picked - he's hardly played, hence why he's short of pace.

I'm sick of England managers picking players on reputation rather than form - Sven did it, and Mclaren is also doing it. There are players constantly playing out of their skin in the Premiership, and never get selected for England, yet someone that hasn't played football for a year can waltz back into the side. Even when he was fit during and just before the world cup, he was off form and not scoring - that, to me, does not warrant selection for England.

I'm sick of hearing people say "well he's world class - thats why he's picked". A player is only world class when he's on form, fit, and playing regularly - Michael Owen doesn't fit under any of those categories.

What he did 1, 2 or 3 years ago should count for nothing - its now that matters. Bobby Charlton was world class once - does that mean he should also play for England now? No, so whats the difference with Michael Owen

Decent display I thought, bodes well for Wednesday, Smith & Owen didn't really work together up front but the make-shift defence held out well until Terry went off

Great game for Beckham, set up the goal and played well chasing everything around, excellent.

Annoying they equalised and frustrating we didn't go all out at them from the start... I always feel England need to be 1-0 down or 1-0 up for them to really get going :(

I'm at work so I'll miss most of the match, and even though I'm a firm patriot & an avid football fan I can honestly say that I'm not the slightest bit bothered that I'm missing it

I feel exactly the same about the England team now to be honest. Once upon a time, i'd have changed plans just to watch England, but these days, I rarely watch a full match, because I know i'll be watching a poor performance from a bunch of players that shouldn't even be in the squad because they're off form.
