Hi everyone, just got back at the weekend from a uni snowsports trip to Alpe D'Huez in France.

Had an awesome week there, is anyone else here into skiing/snowboarding?

I did a season three years ago in Austria and have been back since, however it was my first time at a high resort in France and thought it was brilliant. Definitely different to being in a town in Austria. You can tell your in a man-made resort by the prices of everything haha!

Also I've worked with one of the barmen in the resort before so he booked my to DJ at their bar which was awesome. It was quite nice playing some commercial dance alongside the whole ski resort vibe of breakbeat and old skool hip hop, really enjoyed it. And they liked it so much they asked me to DJ a second night, although this time I only did an hour as I wanted to get out there and enjoy the night with the uni lot.

Here's a couple of piccies if anyone's interested -

View from the balcony right onto the piste, was able to ride to and from the apartment -

looks awesome! I used to be into Skateboarding from the age of about 15-22. I got quite good at it too, I've still got my old deck setup and it is very tempting to take it out now and again, but i doubt i can ollie anymore let alone try flip based tricks! I keep it for the memories really.

Anyway i got a job and didn't have the time for it. I miss it, and the guys i used to skate with.

I've always wanted to try snowboarding though, as i hear they are similar in terms of technique. Still stunning scenery though!

Yeah like you have skiing and snowboarding you have waterskiing and wakeboarding is the equivalent of snowboarding really.

Feet strapped onto the board.

Definitely recommend snowboarding to those who fancy giving it a go. Great sport. Worth trying at one of the snowdomes in Milton Keynes or Tamworth. Yeah Moonman, my mate who skates picked it up very quickly. I've got a skateboard set up but I've never really had time to do it.

Quadders here's a photo of me wakeboarding going for an unsuccessful back roll!

Wakey, wakeboarding looks amazing, what a great photo. Looks difficult though - does it hurt if you stack it into the water at that speed?

as with all board sports, it does hurt! The worst injury i had when i used to skate was an ankle roll. I couldn't walk for days and it swelled up real bad too. Worst thing was, i never got it looked at either, i can still feel my left ankle "pop" whenever i sit cross legged.

Yes it does hurt. Your going pretty fast on a boat and when you stack it the board usually catches an edge and you go from fast to stop in a second so still have allthe kinetic energy to loose. I board on cable ski's that run at about 27kph. That may not sound fast but slapping it at that speed hurts. On a number of occasions I've face slapped so hard that I thought my eyeballs had fallen out!!

Cable skiing is easier than behind a boat because you don't have to contend with the boat wake in front of you. On quiet [non windy] sessions it's such a wicked feeling as it feels like your boarding over ice it's so smooth. There are loads of cable's in England too inc. Bedford, Milton Keynes, Cotswolds, Nottingham, Sheffield, Skegness....

I have a season pass for Sheffield as although I live nearer to Notts, Sheffield is a much better facility as it has kickers and sliders. Notts is pretty boring as it has nothing like this. Once I have a few decent photo's of the coming season, I'll upload a few for your interest.

The attached picture is Notts cable with an amazing sunset.

Before I did my season in Austria I'd never been to a snow resort of tried any snowsports but loved it and definitely recommend checking it out. If you've never done any snowsports before a week holiday would deffo be a good experience.

Haha, Moonman, I've had probably similar injuries to you, used to play ice hockey for Scotland back in the day, and it wasn't that that was the issue, it was all the roller hockey I also played outside. IMO the sorest thing is when you are on rollerblades, get hit, and fall on your árse bone on concrete, wind assisted, (that term requires me to swear). Takes aaaaages to get better and everything you do hurts lol.

Compared to the other things I've broken, including my leg ironically when went skiing the only time ever in my life, that is by far the most annoying. I too have a weird lump on my wrist from when I broke that, like it though :D That one was ice hockey lol.

Oh aye, reason I started this post was just to say cracking pictures Wakey, fancy a wee holidy like that at somepoint!

YES! or in skating, its when you kickflip or heelflip and the board under rotates (only goes 3/4 flip usually with heelflips) and you stomp it on its side or "Premo". Gives you a heart attack, you fall on your ass and everyone laughs.

funnily, when i used to skate i never had a serious injury except for the ankle roll. I'm quite surprised really. Mind you, i was the one in the group that wouldn't try anything unless i knew i could do it. I remember s***ting myself when i slid a handrail near us at Morrisons in Peterborough, that thing is lethal, it took me days to fully commit to do it. I did it once and never again...oh those were the days.

As an aside, i used to love watching inline videos, some of the grinds i used to see were like butter!
