My interview with Marcel Woods...

I just thought you guys might be interested in reading the follow up to my last review by Fabio Stein - this time, from Marcel Woods :D

Carl: You're very popular all around the world as both a DJ and a Producer - which did you start first - producing or DJ'ing?

Marcel Woods: I was a DJ way before I was a producer - but it’s not the same fun to me.

Carl: You've got a very distinctive sound to your DJ sets and productions - have you always liked this particular sound, or did you start off with a completely different style during the earlier days of your career?

Marcel Woods: It was always go with the flow and play and produce what I like - so my sound has developed itself to what it is today.

Carl: My favourite tune of yours is Cherry Blossom, closely followed by Advanced. Which of your productions is your favourite and why?

Marcel Woods: I think my favourite is “On Fire”, my new single, but “Advanced” is also one of my favo tunes just because it brought so much goose bump moments.

Carl: You've also produced a couple of cheeky bootlegs - U2's "Vertigo" and CLS "Can You Feel It". What made you want to remix these particular tunes - were they tunes that you liked and wanted to add your own sound to them? Are any of them likely to be released in the future?

Marcel Woods: Nope, they will not be released, those tracks where just created for the use in my own sets. And I’m a fan of U2 so that was a nice mix to have in my CD-case. And the CLS catchy melody was for many years in my head to do something with it.

Carl: Could you tell us a little about your studio set up - what production equipment do you use? Do you use any software too, or do you use hardware only?

Marcel Woods: I use a lot of software and hardware and as a sequencer I work with Cubase 4, and my mix console is the Sony DMX-R 100.

Carl: As a DJ, you've played some fantastic events around the world - Trance Energy, Sensation, Global Gathering, etc - how does it feel when you're DJ'ing to thousands of people and you can see them enjoying your tunes?

Marcel Woods: Well the thing is, all those gigs are awesome, but you only see hands in the air. In the smaller clubs you can look people in the eye, and then you see they enjoy it!

Carl: You've been highly successful so far in your career - what are your career highlights so far? What ambitions do you still have for the future?

Marcel Woods: Hmmmm….. so many that I even don’t know where to start!?

Carl: What's next for Marcel Woods - is there any work you can tell us about in the future such as an artist album or a big DJ gig you're excited about?

Marcel Woods: I’m pretty excited that I’m doing this year Sensation white, and after the summer there is a sort of compilation/album coming up.

Carl: Tell us something interesting about yourself - do you have any other hobbies or interests apart from DJ'ing and producing? Any crazy things you'd like to do before you die, etc?

Marcel Woods: Nope - only live my life in full effect! And enjoy every minute of it together with my girlfriend.

Carl: And finally, who are your biggest/closest friends in the DJ industry?

Marcel Woods: I’ve got some names I see outside the industry, like: Benjamin Bates, Marco V, Ton TB, Rank 1, Pascal Feliz, etc etc…. But it’s hard to keep your social agenda - we are always on the road.

Plenty more on the way this year, so watch out for those too :D

Nice questions posed mate, but did anyone else get the feeling Marcel didn't really commit to his answers, a lot of one line replies

Yeah, not the best of replies to interviews i've done.

Dave Pearce's interview still stands out as being the most informative interview i've ever done. A top bloke too.

Marcel's English isn't too good though, so that could be why his answers aren't too drawn out.

Yeah thanks for sharing these interviews with us ,they prove a very interesting read - who have you got line up for interviews in the near then?

Thanks mate! Well, Guy Ornadel and Lange are confirmed - but they're mega busy at the moment so its a case of fitting them in when they've got some spare time. Sander van Doorn is currently doing a world tour, so i'm just awaiting confirmation back about an interview to coincode with one of his UK stops.

I'm also hoping to confirm Markus Schulz this week to coincide with his guest mix on my radio show this Friday.

There will also be loads more on the way :D

Yeah those answers were a bit, erm, concise. Just out of interest, are these interviews conducted by email or phone? I guess email but am kind of hoping that this interview was by phone as it would be funny how awkward it would have been. Wouldn't have cost you much anyway.

Should have asked him if his recent sets have still been crammed with Cherry Blossom, Advanced, Monotone etc. :P
