emy
Who had the brilliant idea of squeezing meat into shapes to make sausages???? What did we do before sausages were invented?
Moonman
when someone created sausages they were obviously having a laugh.
Number2Fan
Ok it's because it's all the parts of an animal that you cannot eat on it's loansome, and in days of waste not want not, we humans wouldn't waste anything, so we mushed it all together and to hold it together, in a natural way, we used pigs intestines, now obviously they are long so to shorten the length of food we twisted it here and there and the sausage was born!! Hence I have not eaten a sausage since 1985! Those little hard clearish bits maybe gristle, which may be acceptable to some, but they are probably lenses from the eyes. The taste is from the fat. The rest really does not bear thinking about! :ill: It's peperami I wonder about the most, I mean we knew a bit more by the time we invented those! :ill:

Spin Doctor
As far as I know, sausages were originally a means of preserving food. You'd chuck all the bits into the intestine and cook/smoke/salt it so you could eat it at a later date.

If they are from the butcher at least you are getting good quality meat unlike the cheap alternatives I have never eaten a kebab and I don't want to eat one! MikeW
Kebabs don't appeal to me at all, not even after a good drink! I can't help but wonder how long the meat has been on that skewer behind the till in the kebab shop, could be years for all we know...
Moonman
i was on about sausages, not hot dogs. I dont like Hot Dogs anyway, and i cant stand Donner Kebabs. I was just curious thats all. I've seen mates eat donner kebabs and the next morning the conjealed fat at the bottom of the tray. I then think of it clogging up my arteries. No thank you. I go for the much much healthier option of BSE burger and chips after a night out I reckon the meat on those skewers must be the ideal breeding ground for maggotts too! Briggsy
Sausages are the muts nuts (probably quite literally too in some dodgy butchers in Birmingham!) - Richmond sausages kick ass! I don't care what's in them to be honest. If they taste nice, then I don't care. Everything we eat has something dodgy about it anyway. Even if you eat healthy food such as vegetables, they've been sprayed in gods knows how many pesticides, been shat on by god knows how many pidgeons, and been p***ed on by god knows how many snails and slugs. Pizza all the way!

simonross46
My brother worked in a sausage factory where they make the famous Lincolnshire sausages. He can cut open a sausage and tell you exactly whats in it and what percentage of each 'ingrediant' there is. You know what he recommends as the best sausage? .... tesco own brand smokey bacon c**ktail sausages. I have had them and they are nice.

We got some in for a party once because they were cheap and cheerful not really expecting much from them - but they were quite addictive.
simonross46
Yeah they are good arent they. I was lucky enough to try some experimental sausages, and what my brother brought home was a huge bag of CURRY c**ktail sausages. They were so good!!! but were never put into production
