Chris Moyles to leave Radio 1 breakfast

R1 in the daytime needs to appeal to the lowest common denominator - hence the playlist they employ.

They jump all over any niche which may cross over as it keeps the station "relevant" in the eyes of the mass market and keeps the sheep like kiddies who follow such trends happy.

If R1 acted as a tastemaker in the modern age it would become obsolete - people have much more choice than back in the 70s (or whenever it was in it's heyday).

The specialist shows have become watered down though and that is a shame

It's not so much what they play, I understand they have to comply to those rules etc. For me it's how bland and up their own arse the DJ's are, Fearne Cotton is truly awful and the others aren't far behind. Although Scott Mills is still listenable for me.

Daytime DJ's in the late 90's and early 2000's were far better. I'd rather have Simon Mayo, Mark Radcliffe, a young Chris Moyles and even Nemone.

Today it's like the bosses are standing the other side of the glass encouraging Fearne to say "OMFG!!!11 IT'S LIKE THE MOST AMAZING THING IN THE WORLD EVER!!", when on about meeting the new cleaner downstairs.

Fearne has always been a vacant ditz though - somehow she has a semblance of popularity.

Mark & Lard were too entertaining for Radio 1 - it's a shame Lard is a serial stalker and Mark is a boring middle-aged sort now

I'm not going to get romantic about things, we all remember how hideous Jo Wiley's programmes were :ermm:

I think Mark & Lard getting back together would re-ignite Mark into his old self again. I don't think Marc Riley wants to go back to being a sidekick though, he's become his own man I guess on 6music.

Jo Whiley was terrible at times, but Fearne is far worse. I can't believe it myself, but i've actually put Radio 2 on one of the presets in my car. I'm attempting to listen to it more but I switch away when Steve Wright pisses me off. Kerrang usually comes on.

Jo Whiley was f****** boring!!

Bring back Simon Bates and "Our Tune" used to keep my ears pricked while I made sandwiches at work. Tears in my eyes.

Radio one road shows in Margate, Annie Nightingales request show after the top 40 was the nuts!! Or tits!!

P.S I wasn't even joking.

:)

You can't progress backwards tho ;)

I kind of hope Radio 1 dosen't exist in a decade, that way it will hold on to what dignity it has left.

And it's no progression, when Radio 1 seems to be falling short as it is already.

It's kind of like most of Radio 1's listeners have more respect for that cast of 'TOWIE' than they do for someone like Stephen Fry or even Stephen Hawkins. But then if that's true then maybe that's why the daytime DJ's are so bland and boring.

The 2005 + generation, seems to be a lost one in my eyes.
