Yeah, that's what I thought Jason. Then I went to see John Digweed at MOS last weekend. I was absolutely blown away - it was incredible! There's a guy, 49 years old (1 year younger than Jules), who has been in the scene just as long, and who continues to support good, underground music thereby maintaining his credibility. He rocked the place too - it was completely rammed, with the young and not-so-young (me!), to the point where people were having to stand in the two corridors because The Box was full!
Now Jules, for some reason, has chosen to support shitty, EDM-style trash (in my opinion). Perhaps he genuinely likes it? If so then that's cool, we all have different tastes. But if he had gone down the deeper / tech / techno route after the trance bubble finally burst, he'd still be getting booked for decent gigs like the others of his age - Cox, Sasha, Tong, Laurent Garnier, Paul Van Dyk, Sven Vath and John Digweed. The techno sound would not have been a million miles away from some of the harder stuff he used to support either.
I really wish he had done this. I would love to go and see him smash out some house & techno!
As we all know, he's a very bright chap, and so the decision to minimise his credibility within 'the scene' was obviously a considered one.
And he is of course entitled to do it ... I just don't understand it!

Looks like Oakie ended by playing a couple of his more recent rubbish rejigs. Just play the originals!
Exactly - bloody awful

Good set - classic tunes, decent mixing and terrific atmosphere ... but those flipping acapellas though.
Also nice to see Oakenfold fading Jules' last tune out lol? Buffoon.

Mate, perhaps set up an account so that people can make an annual donation if they so wish?

Poor quality audio, but all I could find ...

Anyone familiar with this mashup?
JDS vs Hi-Gate - Ten Ways (Darude vs JS16 Remix)
I had never heard of it, so ordered a copy off of Discogs. Will report back when it arrives!

Just a minor update;
13. Jaydee - Plastic Dreams (David Morales Club Mix)

So it appears Tim Mathewson never got back to us with this recording? What a shame - that tracklist looks brilliant!

Used to love it when Jules started off hard (stop it!) and then 5 or 6 tracks in suddenly dropped a melodic trancer, used to work really well.

Haha my first decks were Gemini belt-drives too! They started off ok but as the mix progressed and they warmed up, the belt would stretch and it was like spinning plates. Man I had so much patience back then!!

The audio is there too! Click this:

True mate, true. I taught myself to mix on belt drives through trial & error. The belt drives were awful things tbh. But when you nailed a mix it was a hell of a buzz. As you say - track selection, sequencing and reading the crowd were always the most important aspects.

It's not one of these, is it?

Found this very basic but still quite interesting video on Youtube as a guide to vinyl djing! Presented by Serious Records and JFK, it features Anne Savage, Jules and others. Does our video section still work? Can't seem to find the video content any longer!
