  2. it would be a shame if there wern't a final essential mix, but i wouldn't be suprised. radio 1 is a station who seem to have no time or respect for former dj's, they are ashamed of their past as well.
  3. is there any word yet on a goodbye essential mix?
  4. No sir it was a different set in Scotland in 2000, Tremor knows it, I think jules was playing Mr Phillips 7th Day and right in the breakdown he goes knocking the needle right off. Cue the jeers and throwing of glowsticks! Poor old Julesy but I think they let him off as he was on fire back in these days  didn't this also happen when he was playing quo vadis - sonic boom in 2000, the pacha beach bar show? or was that just heavy wind?
  5. i'll be likewise. i may listen to pete tong now and again, and if there's anyone good on the essential mix. but i've been going off radio 1's daytime output since mark and lard left, and i was 16 at the time. i don't mind scott mills but he's even too 'hello! magazine' sometimes like the rest. i've always had the specialist shows though and trance and house was well catered for on radio 1 until a couple or 3 years ago. i used to enjoy seb fontaine, before him danny rampling, dance anthems with dave pearce too. and of course, judge jules. today ipod's and music channels rule the commercial generation, and even podcasts now play a huge part with the dance music scene. so it's harder for radio 1 too pull listeners in now more than ever. it's hardly like they have the creative and original edge in the daytimes like they used to.
  6. i am still 24, i was just into trance/house very early. most people my age i know don't listen to radio 1, so they are going wrong somewhere. and besides, there is a big gap between the radio 1 and radio 2 age range's. people 30 are too old for radio 1 but aren't quite ready to listen to ken bruce play candi staton.
  7. so many people share that view, including myself, even the imaging of the station was far better. and mark and lard, genius. their classic cuts on 'mint vinyl' had tears streaming out my eyes. mint condition! :- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3LNQjMNhs4 sadly now it's just full of celebrity obsessions, dullness and 'yes men'. i mean could you imagine something like the above on radio 1 in this day and age? even chris moyles is restricted compared to his old afternoon show.
  8. i'm finding it a bit of a strange time right now if i'm honest. i've been downloading jules show every week this year from the iplayer, until he finishes. although i only really skip through them. but i've been listening to the old shows i have downloaded from this site in the car via my iphone plugged in to the radio, this week it's been the gatecrasher summer sound system one from 2001. and i remember how big a deal it was back then to radio 1 to have jules' show live from there. the tracks sounding great and the times and atmosphere likewise. and then i remember what is around now when i switch back to radio 1 and hear jakwob or some crap. the old shows are quite hard to listen to because it makes me remember the good tracks back then, but makes me sad that those times will never come around again nor be replicated.
  9. add fearne cotton and edith bowman to that list. what fustrates me above everything is that those at the top at radio 1 seem to have no plans to actually listen to people, i'm still laughing at 'switch' falling on it's arse on a sunday night after it replaced dance anthems. they may as well of got a new presenter in to just continue the show if they thought dave pearce was too old.
  10. i hope it's true to it's old form at least, and not 3 hours of dubstep from 3 years ago because the pre teens class it as "oldskool". it's a sign of radio 1's celebrity obsessed ambitions, the days of mark radcliffe and simon mayo are long gone. how kelly osbourne got a show on there a few years back is beyond me.

    Julesisms

i recall sometime in 2002 he mentioned that he 'was playing a selection of tunes, that were fatter than jack osbourne!'
  12. very well put. seems to me that the people who say that or seem to don't understand how the music scene was back when jules was at his best, they were never around to experience it because most of them are barely out of school. it's the likes of them what radio 1 are basing their decisions on. but i really can't see them sticking to dubstep or whatever new stuff they follow like a lot of 30+ year olds who are still following trance somewhat nowdays.
  13. i'd imagine he's still got most the big tracks that he's played from the outside broadcasts such as creamfields, gatecrasher summer sound system, ibiza etc. maybe it's the odd bootleg that he probably played once and then got rid of, plus some commercial stuff that went big and got annoying. stuff like airwave's save me, green martian's industry, frank trax nebuchan, push strange world, rba no alternative etc he's hopefully kept. i'm sure that the last show will be a retrospective and possibly emotional one.
  14. i'd really like to see him play some of the older stuff for his last few shows or so, stuff he wants to play. bollocks to the radio 1 management and the 16 year old tinie tempah fans, he's leaving anyway so he may as well go out in style.
  15. radio 1 seem to want to phase out dance music completley, sounds a little brutal. but if you think about it, artists like michael gray, tom novy, ferry corsten, ernesto & bastian, eric prydz etc. artists who's tracks were being played on jules' show a few months before got onto the radio 1 playlist as little as 3 years ago. now in contrast look at todays playlist. can you see - if any, tracks you could class as dance music?
  16. i think i'm going to spend some time downloading some more of those late 90's early 2000's shows i've been meaning to download, ready for next april.
  17. it's down to the fact that the radio 1 management seem to be shortening their age range all the time for the station. i first noticed this happening in 2004 when mark & lard left and they replaced them with colin & edith, a show blatently aimed at people under 20. now it's all about celebs and gossip in the day (hence why i don't listen) with b-list celebs like fearne cotton. i think even kelly osbourne had a stint at radio 1 at one time. the real beggining was moving and eventually getting rid of dance anthems in 2007/8. some may call it cheesy but i actually miss dave pearce on sunday nights, it's hardly like switch took off in it's place either. the radio 1 management seemed to have been ill advised and are putting all their focus on dubstep, a genre which will have it's day and burn out like 4x4 did before a few years ago. pete tong is next in line without a doubt.
  18. very good point. his knowledge of the golden era if you like in trance and some house is wealthy, especially as he was pinnacle in the years where it was at it's biggest. hopefully he'll do some sort of podcast or go somewhere where he can play the tracks that everyone remembers him for. as for playing out he should do what scott bond did and play the classics from the big era.
  19. i find the chances of me listening to radio 1 at all in a years time very very slim. but i'm more worried about trance being forgotten, especially those tracks from the golden era. as i said above nobody will be playing trance on radio 1 anymore.
  20. You can't say it wasn't coming with the wave of dubstep and Radio 1 turning more & more into a pre-teen station. But it's still made me sad:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/071211radio1.html It looks like Jules' trance show is getting replaced with a dubstep show. The end of an era for Trance on Radio 1 as well as Jules.
  21. here's a short insight to what it was like there back then:- someone took this when there was no video recording on phones.
  22. this is quite a set. there really needs to be a big classics night put on where stuff like this is played.
  23. thanks for this! i recall hearing this coming back from holiday in the car, and i remember dave pearce playing the dirt devils track; the first time i heard it. i remember writing down the title and getting it from hard to find records the following week. my mind won't let the fact that this was 10 years ago sink in!
