bigsteve Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 For those of you who drive, http://www.pipelinecard.org/default.html are attempting to get many private drivers to sign up for their free card, and then aim to offer up to 10p/per litre discounts on fuel. They will buy the fuel at a bulk rate and this saving will be passed on to the consumer. Sounds good in principle and in theory it should drive down the prices at the pumps whether you've got the card or not. Quote
Neuro Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 I don't drive enough whilst I'm at Uni to warrant getting one at this stage, but certainly if it works it looks like a good idea. A find! Quote
bigsteve Posted February 13, 2006 Author Posted February 13, 2006 It doesn't matter how far you drive, you will still get discounted fuel. Providing enough people sign up for it, that is  Quote
Quadrant Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 I don't understand how this can work. Surely for everyone to get some money off they'll need thousands to sign up or else they'll buy way too much petrol and then not be able to sell it at "normal price". Isn't reselling petrol illegal? bigsteve Posted February 14, 2006 Author Posted February 14, 2006 They quote that they have over 90,000 members now and also: There are nearly 32 million of us in the UK. If a large number of us band together and choose to give our custom to one major forecourt chain, we could negotiate a substantial discount for ourselves Not sure on the finer details, but it doesn't cost anything to get a card so it seems worth it at this stage Quote
