Aza
Have you guys ever noticed your .mp3s in winamp sort of going from 192kbs up to like 320 and back down again? How does this work?
Stuart F
I think when tunes are ripped, rippers encode them at a variable bitrate which moves the bitrate up and down according to the level of the music which reduces the file size a bit. If I am not right, someone please say but I think that's right.
Aza
Would this have any effect on burning them to cd?
Simcut
VBR is the "mp3 scene" standard now... or at least last time I checked anyway, it just enhances the quality of the mp3s, the file sizes a bit bigger, but the quality is better overall. Neuro
I have always ripped stuff in straight format rather than VBR (Variable Bit Rate), because I read somewhere there's a big drawback to this... problem is, other than a bigger file, I can't think of any drawbacks!!? Neuro
There arent any real drawbacks mate, and how comes u didnt reply to my PM? Ah I closed the pop-up window and then forgot I had new messages. I've got 3 in fact, will reply to them all now! Interesting stuff about this VBR, I'll definitely think of re-encoding some of my stuff from the originals again now and weighing up the comparisons, sounds promising.
