Fluctuating Bitrates on Music Files....

I think when tunes are ripped, rippers encode them at a variable bitrate which moves the bitrate up and down according to the level of the music which reduces the file size a bit. If I am not right, someone please say but I think that's right.

I have always ripped stuff in straight format rather than VBR (Variable Bit Rate), because I read somewhere there's a big drawback to this... problem is, other than a bigger file, I can't think of any drawbacks!!?

There arent any real drawbacks mate, and how comes u didnt reply to my PM?

Ah I closed the pop-up window and then forgot I had new messages. I've got 3 in fact, will reply to them all now! :D

Interesting stuff about this VBR, I'll definitely think of re-encoding some of my stuff from the originals again now and weighing up the comparisons, sounds promising.
