What are people's thoughts on dubstep music? I've just recently started listening to this genre after linking house/breakz for a few years. I quite like it, went to a club in France last week and a DJ was playing a massive dubstep, grime, breakz set and it got me searching the net for a few tunes!

Couple of good producers are burial and skream it seems.

Anyone else listen to any?

One of my best friends at school set up the Ranking Records label with some of his mates in Leeds last year which specialises in this. I know almost nothing about the genre but it's very experimental and certainly seems another avenue worth exploring. I'll try and get some info on more artists to explore regarding this!

i posted something on this yonks ago. It's very abstract. I've got the Skream essential mix somewhere. trouble with is though, too much of it and it grinds. Kode 9 is THE producer for me. He did one track i think it was called 9 samurai or something, it's excellent.

I would like to express my distain for this music... I'm not sure it would really put me in any desirable mood.

Just sounds a bit weird really! I say ditch the strange noises and come dance some House grooves with me... :P

Yeh I've been playing the Talisman & Hudson remix a lot, was in my last show. 'Street Talk' is nice & chunky, also really liked 'Nails' & 'Hammer' from the EP they released on Vapour in December. Mendes' stuff is excellent right now, check out the follow up to 'Beneath You' called 'Another Level' similar kinda track

yeh ive heard Mendes one is supposed to excellent too!

I can't believe im actually into prog now, lol!! Such a warm sort of music tho, some of the sounds used are soo strong & the tunes build so very very well! Welsh Morphology is another excellent one ;)

Got into it thru getting to a know a couple mates of a mate of mine - they are very very into prog/tech house & have got me into it now! Both really good dj's - used to play passion and all over the place, Oli has warmed up for ppl like Morillo b4!

In my opinion over the past two years or so progressive trance/progressive house has easily been the most exciting genre within dance music, I got a little tired of all the Discover style trance that was being knocked out. Playing progressive stuff gives you much more of a chance to experiment too, can drop the odd techno or tech-house track in & still play some trance towards the end of a set. Allows for more freedome

Yeh i couldn't agree more - i was just saying this to a mate of mine last night, allows you to go in more varied directions like u say - go into the more tech-housey stuff & then techno, or go more proggy then more trancey or even go into electro house, tis so very good and has got me excited again!

Going to Plug on fri for 'Urban Gorilla' - Ralph Lawson & Josh Wink, woot!
