I can't stand Annie Mac as a DJ. I find her very over-rated, and she doesn't seem to have a style. Very random DJ indeed.

Yeah there is no concrete style by the sounds of it, she plays everything really. I do love this mix though, not necessarily the actual sounds but the concept of fitting all of those tracks in 5 minutes really suprises me. Cant be done on any decks imagine how fast you are throwing CD's/Vinyl on every 3 seconds lol

A gimmick really by fitting in all these tracks, but still impressive. If anything, it's a fantastic showcase of what can be done with editing software.

Was saying in my GCSSS thread about how good zane is. He loves using samplers cutting between tracks. Not sure if he's done a minimix? Top bloke aswell, met him once when I warmed up for him at his home taping tour, came over and said "hi I'm zane" - as if he needed to! lol

Yeah he did mini mixes using punk, rock, indie & dance - it was a definate high light of my holiday and eye opener what you can do with cdj`s outside of dance music - i do mess about with said genres to see if i can pick it up but its no where near as easy as dance music. Its not as neat mixing as 90% of tunes dont have a decent intro / outro.

I did a mash-up using 'Feeder - Lost and Found' for a friend since none of my mates like dance music. It went down a storm at college and everyone soon knew about it (and its quite a big college lol). It was this mash-up that became the main reason why I carried on making them to get to where I am today. Its really hard mixing genres and can go either way in the end, a very risky thing to do I think.

Yeah I know what you mean, big respect to the bloke. Since I stopped playing strictly dance I've messed around with a lot of different genres and I suppose I now play "annie mac style" definitely a lot harder to mix them all up. It is possible, just not as straight forward lol!

The Psychonauts Essential Mix. If you have ever heard that, thats how you mix these type of tracks. Or the Soulwax/2 Many DJ's mix cd's. The best way is to learn to scratch/beat juggle. Or you need to know how to do the "Cut And Paste" style of mixing. I like mixing other genres too. Especially using Serato i can use ALL my mp3's. It's a doddle. You have to be more knowledgable on your tracks with indie/punk etc.

I nearly did this type of mix for my Secret Santa mix last year, but i wouldn't have thought it would have gone down too well.

As much as I in the past have slagged off mobile DJ's, I shouldnt really as the really good ones play all types of music ands their programming and transitions are spot on!

I've done two rock comps (well cheesey rock jobs) for mates as a continuos thing and its basically gettingthe transitions right so it flows, you dontget any clashes, ive made not attempt to beatmatch as the tracks are all over the place speed wises!

House speed rock tracks I have mixed with and am more likely to play with house speed stuff.

These minimixes are all amazing, I remember when it was annies original show for like 3-4 months they opened it up to listeners mini mixes, I hated myself since for not subbing one!

Right O` this post has inspired me to try get a "Alternative Mix" sorted - ive downloads tons of indie, rock, punk anthems and run them through mixed in key to get there BPM`s so i can group together tunes at the same sorta speed.Anyone else out there fancy knocking up a quick mix - doesnt have to be a long mix - id personally like to see what everyone comes up with outside of the dance genre

We were lstening to Annie Mac before Slinky on Friday. Bizzare mix of music. Went from 'Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire' during the minimix to drum & bass about three tracks after . Full respect for her eclectic tastes but I found it hard to listen to as it was so random.

Well the original mix you posted (that I downloaded) I ereally njoyed. I have taken a slight interest in Kasabian before but not enough to say Im a 'fan'. Of course none of the tunes are my first choice when it comes to genre but they were good fun in the end. I think you managed to get the transitions to work well too which was the intention ... far better than what I can probably do.

Cheers for the feedback Simon - I have revised the mix as i felt towards the end they where a tad ropey. But i have to stress it was very hard trying to get all the tunes i wanted to use in the mix to work as they were all over the place in terms of bpm Anyways i changed the order of the mix and they go together better now.
