Robin Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 Howdy folks... guess who ended up playing at the Kiss 2020 event in North London on Sat night??? Yup... me!!! I played a short set in the funky house arena infront of thousands of people then played back to back with Brandon Block before going into the next door arena to join Jules for the rest of the night. About 300 people must have followed me when I went to join Jules and I had a sorta Pied Piper effect on them. Lots of people wanted my pic with Jules as well as pictures of just me. The best thing was when I was walking the short 10 mins walk back home... loads of people were stopping me for autographs! All I can say is that it was a truly awesome night and I haven't seen Jules having so much fun in a long time. I will honestly remember that night for a very long time, especially since I made history on that night. Essentially, every single DJ playing has been a part of Kiss FM at some point in their careers either when it was a pirate or a legal station. I was the only DJ there who played who didn't actually have any links to Kiss FM and I was playing their 20th anniversary bash... such a quality night. I also met the guy who set up Kiss 20 years ago and the guy who gave Jules his first break on radio... such a quality guy and certainly was instrumental in breaking down barriers for dance music and hip hop... his girlfriend was rather nice too!
Chrissie Brown Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 Wow sounds amazing. How many people do you think were there at the event and what tunes did you play?
Robin Posted September 19, 2005 Author Report Posted September 19, 2005 I think about 15,000 were there in total but there could have been more. I think I played the following tunes that night: Unknown 'Stunk of Punk' Hysteric Ego 'Want Love' Deux 'Sun Rising Up' Skorpio 'Rock Chic' Tim Deluxe 'Just won't do' ... along with a load more I can't remember!!! Was a damn good night!
dormouse Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 Sounds bloody amazing, look forward to one of our chats again soon!
Neuro Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 That's great to hear Robin, cheers for letting us all know - sounded brilliant! Jules joined Radio 1 in october '97 (as you can see from the TLs on here) and apparently beforehand his Kiss FM shows were class, Friday & Saturday nights 3 hours each which were incredibly popular... I don't know if there are any tracklistings from then knocking around by any chance?
Mikey*J Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 Deux 'Sun Rising Up' oh dear god this tune is just fcuking ridiculously good! one of my fave house tunes
Chrissie Brown Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 I love it too the jupiter ace remix is my favourite but the other mixes l have heard are also very good. At what time did Jules play at the Kiss event as he was also playing at the Syndicate Blackpool that night?
Robin Posted September 19, 2005 Author Report Posted September 19, 2005 Deux is such a tune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! J was on 5-6 playing the final set in the trance arena then had a 5 min drive home afterwards! He lives on the other side of Ally Pally than me.
Bjorn Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 deux = tune, got the picture disc, its minta!
Chrissie Brown Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 Deux is such a tune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!He lives on the other side of Ally Pally than me. What's Ally Pally mean. :?
dormouse Posted September 19, 2005 Report Posted September 19, 2005 Alexandra Palace. Its ok, I speak 'Robin'.
thirddrive Posted September 20, 2005 Report Posted September 20, 2005 it's all you crazy peeps dahhhn sahhf with their lingo!
Chrissie Brown Posted September 20, 2005 Report Posted September 20, 2005 I'm a Londoner living in Penzance so l should have known what Ally Pally was short for. I was born in Hammersmith and there is a Pally there too.
thirddrive Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 Lols, i'm just bitter since I have no real accent anyway, I just steal bits of other peoples - can go a bit northern, via birmingham and Somerset!
JasonB Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 Whats an accent? I don't think I have one either.
Robin Posted September 21, 2005 Author Report Posted September 21, 2005 Did you honestly just ask that question??? An accent is an integral part of how you express yourself when you are speaking. It gives you a regional stamp to let others know where you are from. It enables you to pronounce certain dialects which are privy to your part of the world. Everyone has an accent but the typical 'non-accent' is described as a person having 'received pronounciation' and is commonly the sort of accent BBC newscasters had during the 80's.
thirddrive Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 LOL Jason. I think it's just the fact that mine can't really be pinpointed to one place - have a listen to my radio show on Monday and find out what i'm on about!
Robin Posted September 21, 2005 Author Report Posted September 21, 2005 You'll either have 'RP' or at least one dominant accent although it might seem very subtle amongst the other's you might have picked up.
thirddrive Posted September 21, 2005 Report Posted September 21, 2005 People will prolly listen and say that I either sound rougher than a punch up with Russel Crowe, or that i'm a farmer, or a brummie!
Neuro Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 Lol @ ThirdDrive - "...or that I'm a farmer" What's Fergie's accent then? Ireland or Somerset...?
Robin Posted September 22, 2005 Author Report Posted September 22, 2005 Somerset??? Where did you get that from Tim???
Neuro Posted September 22, 2005 Report Posted September 22, 2005 lol I dunno, he just struck me as a genuine Somerset farmer for some reason! :?
