MPs Expenses

Well, we've not had a good debate on here recently, and i've heard that Simon Ross likes to participate in a good mass-debate, so I thought i'd get a topic rolling :P

Does MP's putting claims in at taxpayers expense bother you? Personally, i've no objections to them claiming 'normal' things such as a return from Manchester to London on the train to get to and from work in parliament, or a big mac that they've had because they've over-ran a meeting and had to grab something to eat quickly - those are things that would happen in most jobs - but what does annoy me is when they put claims in for 2nd homes that they don't even live in, or claim for decorating their houses and porn videos at hotels. We can't do that so why should they? They're already earning good salaries, so to claim for an 88p bath plug is just downright tight! Some politicians are claiming over £240,000 in expenses on top of their £120,000 salaries.

Now I know why we're in recession - now that fat bastard Prescott has put his claim in for food expenses, there's no fecking money left in the country! Judging by the size of his huge lardarse, it must have cost us kazillions of pounds to feed his gut!

The other thing that frustrates me is, they're having this G-20 summit in London to talk about how world leaders can get the economy rolling again - yet its costing £8million in policing just to protect Barrack Obama according to ITN news. Thats £8m that could have gone towards helping a few small companies out that are bordering going bust.

Jacqui Smith should resign, her claims are an obscenity & she can have no repost for the ridiculous second home claim or the fact her husband is so disillusioned with her sexually that he can only get off by 'stealing' porn films

I agree entirely, although i'd rather she was sacked before she's got time to resign. For Gordon Brown to publicly back her shows just what a joke the Labour party is.

Even if she did go, I bet she'd eventually resurface - just like Blunkett, Straw and Prescott did when they were pushed out of the public eye for a short time until they were forgotten about.

Sadly though, Jacqui Smith isn't the only one - there's loads that are fiddling the system - its just hers has been made more public. They're all dodgy.

Why did it come to Jacqui Smith actually being able to claim back expenses as as DVD's, I struggle to claim back my Mileage at work, And god knows what other expense's they are able to get back.

On a lighter note not that I like porno material, What where the names of the DVD's in question.

'Home Secretary gets Buck wild'

Very lame atempt from myself, but I'd imagine others could think of better?

Expenses should be for work-related or -induced outgoings that you would not expect to pay for yourself, not as a supplement to your already healthy salary.

There is the old saying: "Ultimate power corrupts, but power corrupts ultimately."

Argh....

First of all Briggsy, you seem to have lumbered all politicians on the one boat here. I'll give you one thing, you'd make a good editor of the Sun!

Don't get me wrong, by no means are they perfect in the slightest, but the fact that as soon as anyone in government makes a mistake the public want them all lynched as soon as they get a whiff of a tabloid. f***ing does my head in.

Was about to write a pretty damn good essay there on why I disagree with most of what Briggsy said, but it being 2am and being off tomorrow I'll try and make a more concise explanation tomorrow!

Found 7 things I totally disagree with though :D

Its not a mistake though is it - there have been so many MPs claiming for things that they shouldn't - hence why even Gordon Brown himself has called for the claims inquiry to be speeded up - so that everything can be resolved as soon as possible. Personally, I couldn't care less what they do in their own time, and what they choose to do with their own salaries - but then they're spending OUR taxpayers money on luxuries that shouldn't be claimed for, then that is wrong.
