I genuinley believe if he hadn't been so faithful to Southampton he would be considered one of the best players ever. He'd have been superb at somewhere like Arsenal or Man Utd with even better players around him. Its amazing that he never got more England caps. Him and Ian Wright hardly got a look in despite being superb. They'd be the first names down on the team sheet now if they were playing around the current England side. Southampton weren't bad every season though. In fact, under Gordon Strachan, they had a couple of good seasons where they almost qualified for Europe - and he still stood out.
