Simcut Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Hey guys, I bought a Sennheiser e825S off ebay recently, it arrived but without a microphone lead, so I went to a Maplin store yesterday and bought a 3m microphone lead so I could connect the microphone to the mic in on the mixer..... so I test it out today but the microphone wont work, I press the talkover button and the volume on the music drops down, however when I try speaking, nothing happens, I try flicking the switch on and off but still nothing happens. Im at loss on what to do, please can someone help? Thanks
Simcut Posted November 7, 2005 Author Report Posted November 7, 2005 Skip the mic and shout loudly  great advice, Im not in the mood for that though, I need help, this is driving me MENTAL ! :/
bigsteve Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 2 silly questions, but said with respect: Is there a switch on the mic? Is there a volume knob on your mixer specifically for talk?
Simcut Posted November 7, 2005 Author Report Posted November 7, 2005 2 silly questions, but said with respect:Is there a switch on the mic? Is there a volume knob on your mixer specifically for talk? yep, tried switching on and off whilst speaking..... not afaik, all the knobs have volume tho!
Robin Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 mate, the mic might need a battery inside it to function which you can easily put in yourself. if your mixer has 'phantom power' for mic's, you could easily switch this on and you won't need to power the mic with a battery. This only works if it's an XLR cable you're using to patch the mic upto your mixer =o)
Simcut Posted November 7, 2005 Author Report Posted November 7, 2005 the mic doesnt have a bit to put a battery in.... :S
Robin Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 the mic must be knackered then... just take it to a pro music shop to get it fixed or send it back to the seller on ebay and get your money back. with these sorts of things, you're best off buying a brand new mic or sticking to Shure SM58 mics if you wanna go down the second hand/used route.
Simcut Posted November 7, 2005 Author Report Posted November 7, 2005 f*** SAKE. I found out what the problem is. The microphone uses "Phantom Power" - which means it has no battery. It would appear the mixer I bought doesnt have phantom power support. f*** SAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Simcut Posted November 7, 2005 Author Report Posted November 7, 2005 !!!!!! Im REALLY not in the mood, if your going to reply, do it seriously please... I've just wasted about 60 quid of my money for this c***ing microphone and it wont bloody work!!!!!!!!
Neuro Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Cue: violence in Simcut's house :? Really hope you get this sorted mate
Simcut Posted November 7, 2005 Author Report Posted November 7, 2005 bloody f***ing bollocks...... so now I've got to look for a microphone that uses batteries and not phantom power AND sell this one I bought...... or buy a new mixer that allows phantom power. GOD DAMN IT.
Quadrant Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Where did you buy the mic from, surely if you've just bought it you still have the receipt and just take it to the shop tomorrow?
Simcut Posted November 7, 2005 Author Report Posted November 7, 2005 Got it from Ebay. it still isnt a solution though, I now have to find a mic that uses batteries or buy a new mixer.....and can I find a decent microphone that uses batteries? can I bollocks !!!
Robin Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 get a shure sm58 mate... they are the nuts. fyi, you were ripped off for that mic. you can buy it for about £35 new instead of the £60 you paid on ebay!
Simcut Posted November 7, 2005 Author Report Posted November 7, 2005 makes me feel a whole lot better why dont you Rob does that mic u mentioned need a battery to work?
Robin Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 no batteries needed with that one plus it'll last ya for years and sounds like the dogz doo-dah's!
Simcut Posted November 7, 2005 Author Report Posted November 7, 2005 no batteries needed with that one plus it'll last ya for years and sounds like the dogz doo-dah's! that means it uses phantom power, which my mixer doesnt support !
Robin Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 no... it doesn't need phantom power either! trust me I'm a fully qualified sound engineer!
Simcut Posted November 7, 2005 Author Report Posted November 7, 2005 I just did a search on google and found "phantom power supplies" ?
Robin Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 nah... don't bother with any of that s***... shure sm58's are the future!
